Three Homes, Three Budgets: Hilton Head Island, S.C.

September 25, 2015

Welcome to the first installment of our golf real-estate series, Three Homes, Three Budgets, in which we’ll spotlight three homes for sale (at varying price points) in a golf-rich market. Whether you’re a snowbird seeking your dream golf home or a golf-loving retiree in search of a place to start a new phase of your life, these listings will give you an idea for how far your dollar will go in some of the country’s top golf markets. We kick off our series in Hilton Head Island, S.C. This scenic barrier island is home to more than 400 golf holes that twist through live oaks and pines and alongside tranquil lagoons and golden-tinged marshes. If you’re thinking about a move to Hilton Head, here are three golf homes for three budgets, as listed by Stephen Timperman, broker at Charter One Realty.

Wexford Plantation: $2,450,000

The property: This 6,100-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 5.5-bath home is located on two lots and features an open floor plan that offers beautiful deep water and harbor views from every room. Built in 2002, the home features a formal living and dining room and a gourmet eat-in kitchen. Among the other highlights are a first-floor master suite with his/her bath and closets, an 800-bottle wine cellar, exercise room and a large six-car garage with workshop and storage. A covered outdoor living area with kitchenette and built-in grill provides handsome panoramas across Broad Creek.

The golf: Golf privileges are available at an 18-hole private course, designed by Willard Byrd in 1983 and extensively remodeled by Arnold Palmer in 2011. Several holes skirt a yacht-filled harbor.

Long Cove: $1,650,000

The property: An appealing blend of Southern elegance and superbly detailed appointments, this 5,276-square-foot, nine-year-old Long Cove home features five bedrooms, five-and-a-half baths and a two-story foyer that leads to a formal living and dining room which has a wall of French doors. Once opened, the doors provide access to a covered porch overlooking the heated pool and lagoon. The award-winning kitchen has been featured in Southern Living. The first-floor owners suite offers separate his and her bathroom with separate closets. Three guest suites, an office and a family room with a gas fireplace round out the offerings.

The golf: Golf privileges are available at Long Cove, an 18-hole private Pete Dye design dating to 1982 that was ranked in the U.S. Top 100 for 30 years.

Indigo Run: $599,000

The property: Located on the 16th fairway of the private Golf Club at Indigo Run, this 17-year-old, 4-bedroom, 3-bath, 3,166-square-foot home shows like a model. The home features panoramic golf views, handsome hardwood and tile floors, a large, open kitchen, a breakfast nook that is open to the family room, a formal dining room with trey ceilings, a bonus room above the garage and a large laundry area. The master bedroom and three guest suites are situated on the first floor. The open, airy floor plan, generously sized bedrooms and bathrooms and the tranquil setting add to the feeling of relaxed spaciousness.

The golf: The Indigo Run community features a private 18-hole collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and his son Jack Nicklaus II. Across the street is a semi-private 18-hole course called Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run, created by Nicklaus Design.
