Ryan McGuire, 6, Raised $40k Playing 100 Holes of Golf for Friend Who Died from Cancer

August 26, 2015

Remember Ryan McGuire, the 6-year-old with a heart of gold?

Well, Ryan achieved his goal, and then some.

The PGA Tour recently released a follow-up video with Ryan that’s worth watching. We first heard about Ryan in June, when he said he was going to play 100 holes of golf in one day to raise money for his friend and kindergarten classmate Danny Nickerson, who died from pediatric cancer in April. His original goal was to raise $2,500, which then increased to $5,000. His final tally? An incredible $40,000.

He finished as the top earner for Golf Fights Cancer, which put on the marathon, and planned to donate the money to the team that treated Danny at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

“I was just thinking about that (Danny’s) really proud of me,” Ryan said in the video.
