The men’s golf competition at the Tokyo Olympics begins late Wednesday night for viewers in the United States. Here’s what you need to know to watch the first-round action on TV or online.
Previewing Round 1 of the Olympics Men’s golf event
We’re finally ready for the start of the golf events at the postponed 2020 Olympics. While several high-profile men’s players chose not play in the Olympics, or were forced out due to positive Covid-19 tests, the field still features some of the best players in the world who will duke it out for gold over four rounds beginning on Thursday in Japan (Wednesday night in the United States).
Among them is 24-year-old Collin Morikawa, the World No. 3 who just captured his second major at the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s. Morikawa joins fellow Americans Justin Thomas (No. 4) and Xander Schauffele (No. 5) as the top-ranked players in the field, according to the Official World Golf Ranking. World No. 6 Bryson DeChambeau would have given the United States the top-4 ranked players in the field, but he withdrew due to Covid-19 and was replaced by World No. 12 Patrick Reed.
Rikuya Hoshino, Thomas Pieters, and Sepp Straka will kick things off in the first grouping, beginning their opening rounds at 6:30 p.m. ET Wednesday night. Below you will find everything you need to watch the first round on Wednesday.
