2019 U.S. Open: People are freaking out over this mesmerizing pitchmark repair video

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Pitchmarks aren’t usually too much of an issue at U.S. Opens. Like last year at Shinnecock Hills, the greens were so firm that the notion of leaving an indentation in the green was little more than a flittering dream. But with the overcast weather keeping the greens soft ahead of this year’s contest, the greens are much more receptive this time around.

Which means, pitchmarks!

That brings us to Instagram user @NedoMichaels, who shared this strangely mesmerizing video taking us through, step-by-step, the perfect way to repair a juicy pitchmark:

1. Extract pitchmark (only do this if you have the special tool).

2. Push green surrounding pitchmark toward pitchmark.

3. Roll area of pitchmark.

And there you have it, a pitchmark repaired like it never happened in the first place. It’s mesmerizing seeing it done by an expert, and it’s why the greens are rolling like carpets at Pebble Beach this week.

The video has been shared by numerous outlets and keeps gaining traction. The PGA Tour’s share of the clip has nearly 2,000 retweets and 14,000 likes on Twitter, and it’s been posted for less than 24 hours.
