Welcome to Gimme That, a GOLF.com column where we’ll highlight one notable item we think you might like. Whether it’s an article of clothing, an intriguing electronic device or anything in between, we want to share these items with you because they’ve generated a bit of chatter by our water cooler (or, these days, on our Slack channel). So sit back, scroll down and keep up with the latest gear golf has to offer.
It’s Waste Management Phoenix Open week, and while the week will certainly be less rowdy than we’re used to, it still feels like golf’s first big week of 2021. The grandstands are up, there will be fans (albeit, not hundreds of thousands) and some of our favorite golf brands are releasing limited collections to celebrate!
Puma’s latest collection is right on theme. Their First Mile program sorts, cleans and shreds trash — specifically plastic bottles — until they can be turned into yarn, and ultimately golf clothes and accessories! Each piece from the collection is made from post-consumer plastic collected in Haiti, Honduras and Taiwan. The idea is bigger than just turning plastic into clothes — it’s about turning trash into opportunity. Through the program, they’ve been able to create jobs for people all over the world and divert 1.1 million pounds of waste from landfills and oceans.
The collection includes t-shirts, polos, quarter-zips, windbreakers, caps and a carry bag! To put that into perspective, three recycled bottles are enough to create just one polo, and through the program, they’ve recycled 25 million bottles!
The polos, hats and t-shirts feature a fun print inspired by the typical scenes at the WMPO — sunshine, cacti, beer and, of course, golf — while the other styles pay homage to the event through their Waste Management-inspired colors. Scroll down to shop the collection!
