With Patrick Reed’s win at the Farmers Insurance Open, the California Swing is complete, and now the PGA Tour heads to Arizona for the 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.
Waste Management Phoenix Open Preview
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is one of the most popular events ever year. Typically, hordes of fans descend on TPC Scottsdale for tournament week to drink, watch the action and make a whole lot of noise, making the Phoenix Open the most highly-attended event on Tour. But things will be a lot different this year in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Golf fans tuning in from home won’t see the familiar sight of massive crowds lining the ropes, but a limited number of spectators will be allowed on site, so the course won’t be empty. In addition, organizers have erected the stadium-like grandstands surrounding the iconic par-3 16th hole, albeit a smaller version of the edifice than in years past.
But fans will recognize plenty of familiar faces in the field. World No. 3 Justin Thomas is back in action after making a sojourn to the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship two weeks ago, where he missed the cut. Thomas finished third at the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions in early January, his last start on the PGA Tour. Joining him in Scottsdale will be Rory McIlroy, defending champion Webb Simpson, Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and more.
