With the help of Golf Laboratories’ swing-robot, GOLF’s 2023 ClubTest continues to deliver robotic testing insights on the newest equipment releases for 2023. We’re kicking off our fairway wood insights with the 5 fastest models in the marketplace.

Many golfers chase ball speed with the driver in an attempt to gain more distance off the tee. More speed generally translates into shorter shots into the hole and, hopefully, a more significant distance gap between you and your playing partners. The promise of more distance generally gets golfers to spring for a new driver.

But what about more distance with the 3-wood? Depending on your proficiency off the tee, having a reliable 3-wood that acts as a secondary — or even a primary — option off the tee can make it easier to keep the ball in play and improve your chances of going low.

If you don’t currently have a reliable secondary option off the tee, here are 5 3-wood options that performed well in the ball speed department during recent robotic testing with Golf Laboratories’ swing robot. (Note: All testing was conducted with a 15-degree 3-wood at 95 mph, with six shots recorded from the geometric center, 3/4″ high toe and 3/4″ low heel.))
