Viewer's guide: Tiger Woods paired with Bronson Burgoon Sunday at Quicken Loans National

All eyes have been on Tiger Woods at the 2018 Quicken Loans National at TPC Potomac so far this week, and after a third-round 68 that put him in a tie for 10th, they will be focused on him again for Sunday’s final round.

Woods tees off at 1:20 p.m. ET and will play alongside Bronson Burgoon.

Woods returned to competition after missing the cut at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills a few weeks ago, and after this week, he won’t be seen in tournament play again until the week of the British Open at Carnoustie.

This is the last year of the National as hosted by Tiger Woods in the D.C. area. Next year, retaining the Quicken Loans sponsorship, it will move to the Detroit area (with Woods’s involvement unknown at this time). Only three of the world’s top 25 players are in the field this week, making the tournament among the weakest fields of the PGA Tour this season.

Abraham Ancer, Francesco Molinari share lead at Quicken Loans National as Tiger Woods stalls

POTOMAC, Md. (AP) — Abraham Ancer and Francesco Molinari each handled the scorching heat and shared the lead at the Quicken Loans National.

Ancer matched the best round of the week with an 8-under 62 on the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, giving the 27-year-old Mexican his best shot at his first PGA Tour victory. Molinari birdied his last two holes for a 65 and joined him at 13-under 197.

Tiger Woods looked as though he would be right there with them. Woods made four straight birdies, finished the front nine with seven straight one-putt greens and was in range to go even lower until he was slowed by missed putts and one bad tee shot. He ended up with a 68. That left Woods in a tie for 10th, six shots back.

Tiger Woods’s third round at the Quicken Loans National got off to a slow start, but he turned it around quickly with an incredible string of birdies on the front nine.

Woods began the day at five under, just four shots off the lead. But an opening bogey suggested Saturday would be a tough one for Woods. Then he arrived at the 4th hole.

There, he stuck is approach to seven feet at the par-4 and rolled in the putt for his first birdie of the day.

He repeated that performance at the par-4 5th, making another mid-ranger to add a second birdie and move to six under for the tournament. He quickly picked up his ball and confidently strolled to the next tee.

Another great tee shot into the fairway at 6 preceded an approach that took an aggressive line, but one that paid off. Woods was left with 12 feet, and he raised his putter as his ball sneaked into the left side of the cup for his third birdie in a row.

But he wasn’t done yet. Woods smashed a 307-yard drive into the fairway at the par-4 7th hole. His wedge shot from 131 yards settled just eight feet from the cup. You can guess what happened next.

The putt gave Tiger four consecutive birdies, moving him to eight under for the tournament, just one shot off the lead.
