Our take: Honma’s newest line of irons take various cues from past iterations and combine them into one. Tungsten weighting is tucked deep within the clubhead to aid those mis-hits. And to at least one tester, it really stood out. “Could totally see myself playing these,” they said. “Looks like the TR20 B I liked, but the forgiveness and speed is on another level. Almost feels like cheating on the mishits.” That’s a big-time endorsement.

The details: This Honma variety incorporates a slightly bigger clubhead for a little added security blanket, both at address and when contact isn’t perfect. The hollow blade iron body is filled with tungsten weight and a foam insert behind an L-Cup face for a wider sweet spot and more distance on strikes lower on the clubface. Honma describes it as their player’s distance model that should be welcoming for players looking to make a jump to a blade style iron.

Our take: For iron aficionados and connoisseurs of exquisite Japanese forgings, Miura’s TC-201 irons prove that a muscular cavity-back design can have it all: world class feel and Tour caliber performance combined with a heaping of forgiveness where it’s needed. Said one of our testers, “This is the best-looking iron I’ve tested, and the shot dispersion is phenomenal. I’m throwing darts out here!”

The Miura TC-201 is ideal for the player that desires the performance of a muscle back with the increased forgiveness of a cavity back. The TC-201 is a player’s iron that acts as a replacement for the CB-1008 and perfectly complements the MB-101. The Miura TC-201 incorporates progressive weighting in the sole which provides a lower center of gravity in the long irons for added height and higher trajectory on longer shots. Slightly changing to a higher center of gravity in the short irons creates a lower trajectory and more control on shorter shots. Constant weight towards the heel and toe helps with off center shots. The sole design contributes significantly to the playability and forgiveness of this club and the minimal offset paired with the top line at address inspires confidence.
