Want to improve your game this summer, but you’re stuck in the office fielding phone calls and returning e-mails? There’s a fix for that.

In the latest and final episode of Cobra Golf’s Emergency Nine, Drew Stoltz, co-host of GOLF’s Subpar Podcast, broke down two drills you can do from the office to improve your game.

The first drill is a backswing drill you can do in your office doorway.

“Find the end of the doorway,” Stolz says. “Go about a foot out, put your trail foot about a foot away. Set up normal like you are setting into a shot. Toes in line with the edge of the wall. Once you get that, we’re working on backswing. As I go back, my hands stay in by the clubhead stays out. If I do it properly, the club is going to contact the wall somwhere [by the middle] of the club. You get set up. Hands in, clubhead out — that’s going to get you in a really good position in your backswing.”

The next drill is for your short game. All you need is a coin and a wedge.

“Put the coin on the ground. The goal of this drill is to help us find the bottom in our chipping,” Stoltz says. “I’m going to set up for a normal chip. This is going to give me a lot of feedback, because if I have too much lean or too much forward press, I’m going to hit this quarter and it’s going to go forward. We don’t want that. On the other side of that, if I get back here and I add too much loft and I bottom out before the coin, I’m going to bounce over it and the coin is not going to move anywhere.

“What I want to do is have the bounce of this club land right on top of this quarter, and I can do that over and over, and it should just pop up in the air a little bit. We don’t want it going forward. Once we have this, I know that I have found the bottom consistently.”

“Sometimes smaller is better.”

That’s the lesson Drew Stoltz learned in the latest episode of Emergency 9, presented by Cobra, when he took the Cobra KING TEC mini driver out for a spin.

While you may sacrifice a bit of distance off the tee with the mini, Stoltz says it may well be worth it.

“You’re gonna be in play way more often than you would if you tee up driver every time and spray it,” he said.

Another benefit of the mini? It can replace a difficult 3-wood, which can be a tough club to master for some players.

“If you’re a guy that doesn’t like his 3-wood much, scared to use it off the tee, maybe hates it off the ground, any of the above, this is a quick fix for that,” Stoltz said. “You don’t have obviously quite as much distance as you’re gonna get with your with your regular driver, but it’s so much easier if you get 303ccs on this head [compared to 460ccs in modern driver heads], which makes it so much more forgiving, optimizes your speed, your dispersion. It’s just a lot easier to hit and get off the tee than the 3-wood.”

One of the quickest ways to improve your scores is to dial in your distance control with your wedges. Of course, that’s easier said than done.

But Drew Stoltz, the co-host of GOLF’s Subpar Podcast, has a drill that can help you take your wedge game to the next level. It’s called the ladder drill.

In the latest episode of Emergency 9, presented by Cobra, Stoltz explains how he uses the drill to get the most out of his Cobra King wedges.

“It’s tailored to improve your distance control with your wedges,” Stoltz said. “All you need is a handful of balls and a chipping green. If you do this over and over before a round, it’s sure to improve your short game.”

So, how does the drill work?

“You find a spot on the green and you give yourself a lot of green to work with,” Stoltz said. “You need some decent space for this drill. Grab a handful of balls, go down off the green and pick out one club. The goal of this drill is to get as many balls on the green as possible with each shot going shorter than the shot before it.

“So, for instance, on my first shot, I’m going to try to get it as close to the back of the green, to the fringe, as possible without going over. For my next shot, I’m going to get as close to that ball as possible but it has to be shorter.”

Then, you work your way down the ladder until a shot goes past where your last shot landed. However many balls you get on the green before hitting one too far is your score. Then, you pick the balls up and try to beat that score.

“This will dial in your distance control,” Stoltz said. “You’re going to learn how to hit different shots with the same club — low runners, high soft ones. It’s a great way to improve your short game.”

If you’re wondering how to best prepare yourself for the round ahead on the greens, Drew Stoltz has a simple routine worth copying.

In the latest episode of Emergency 9, the Subpar co-host shared how he dials in his putting before each round.

Up first: straight shorties, which he said helps him get a feel for his tendencies on a given day.

“I like to start off with just some short straight putts,” he said. “All I’m focusing on is ball position and alignment. Speed doesn’t matter. I want a dead straight putt just so I can get some feedback. If it’s going in the right side of the hole, I know I may be aimed a little right. Same with the left side as well.”

Stoltz said he likes to see five or 10 short putts go in before moving to mid-range.

“I like to work my way around in a circle from about 6 to 8 feet,” he said. “That way, I’m getting putts that are right to left, I get putts that are uphill, downhill, left to right, you get all of it. It just gives you a good idea for the pace of the greens and how hard you need to hit it on your given line.”

After completing a circle around the hole, Stoltz moves on to the final stage of his putting warm-up: lags.

“Sometimes I’ll aim for the edge of the green, sometimes I’ll aim for a hole, whatever I can,” he said. “I just hit like, 40-footers over and over, uphill, downhill, just to get the pace dialed in for the longer putts. After that I try not to overthink it and head to the first tee.”

And Stoltz’s current flatstick, Cobra’s 3DP Tour Agera, makes alignment easier than ever.

“This thing’s been a game changer for me,” Stoltz said. “This putter has been really consistent for me ever since I put it in. Super consistent off the face, you get a lot of feedback too, whether you hit it on the toe or the heel, but you also get that consistent rollout.

“The main reason I think I like this is these two stripes on top make it super easy for alignment,” he continued. “That’s the thing I struggle with most, and I think that’s what a ton of golfers struggle with most is just getting set up correctly.”

Like Rickie Fowler and Max Homa, Drew Stoltz found the perfect combination of Cobra irons to complete his “flow” set.

“The easiest thing for me with these irons is the ability to hit it down,” Stoltz said. “A lot of the time I like to hit low wedges, low 9 irons and things like that. This makes it a lot easier. You get all the shot-making capabilities of a blade but you get more forgiveness.”

As anyone who gambles on the course knows, it pays to feel like you have an advantage on your opponents — often literally! And for Subpar co-host Drew Stoltz, his advantage is defined by the equipment he carries in his bag.

In the latest episode of Emergency 9, presented by Cobra, Stoltz explained the details of his favorite on-course gambling game, “Scotch.” It’s a six-point game that is played with two teams of two players. Two points are awarded for the low ball on the hole, two points for the low total between the two players, one point for birdie, and one point for closest to the pin. If a team manages to win all six points, the total doubles.

“That’s where it gets juicy and you can lose a lot of money,” Stoltz said.

The reason Stoltz loves this game is because the person who is closest to the pin, or “KP”, is in the driver’s seat. “But then, when you go a long par-4, long par-3, 4-iron, 5-iron. Drew Stoltz made some changes to his bag in 2026, and they have already yielded rave results.

“New addition this year — I’m playing the new 3D-print musclebacks, the MBs,” said Stoltz, one half of GOLF’s Subpar podcast duo. “These things are awesome. So I have a little bit more of a flex set now. I get a little more of that blade look, that blade feel, I can flight the ball down a little bit easier. This has been an awesome change on my wedge, 9, 8, 7.”

He also added the Cobra OPTM LS 3 fairway wood.

“This thing has been spectacular,” Stoltz said. “The new OPTM line has been fantastic. Still has the same Future Fit technology. I like mine to be as flat as possible just because I like to see the ball go left to right, so I have this on the H4 setting. This thing has become so easy for me to hit. This is probably the best 3-wood I’ve had in terms of hitting it off the tee and off the ground. That’s a really hard combination to have but I think I’ve found it here.”

“The forged face insert creates space flex when you hit it, which basically means you get the most pop out of your drive, the most speed that you can possibly get,” Stoltz explained. “Next up, we’ve got an advanced weighting system here. There’s three different places where you can place weight.

“The one on the toe is where I put my heaviest weight,” he continued. “I like everything to go left to right to encourage a fade, so I put the most weight up in the toe. This also helps me get the shot shape that I like.

“No matter what kind of golfer you are, what kind of shot shape you like to hit, there’s a fitting here on the FutureFit33 that will help your game.”

Stoltz worked with Cobra’s Ben Schomin to dial in his specs.

“We went through a number of different settings, a number of different lies, lofts, all the things, till we finally came up with this combination here,” Stoltz said. “The 10.5-degree head moved down almost 1.5 to around 9, and then we’ve also flattened it 1 degree too. So I have a little left-to-right missile-hitter right here.

“I do have to issue a warning before you hit the OPTM driver,” he said. “This does come with highly addictive accuracy and dangerous levels of stability.”

Have a big match against a buddy who can also take a joke? Then boy do we have a trick for you.

On this week’s episode of Emergency 9, Subpar co-host Drew Stoltz shared an easy prank you can pull off on a buddy if you both happen to be walking the course during a match. Why? Because it will give you an advantage later in the round. And also because it’s pretty funny, and golf is about fun, right?

“The goal here is to make your opponent’s bag as heavy as possible,” Stoltz said, “thus decreasing their physical stamina as the round progresses, thus increasing the amount of their money in your pocket.”

Here’s what you do.

Either grab balls from your shag bag at home or pick up a dozen or two from the range when you get to the course (but make sure to return them!). Then, when you get time, slowly start unloading them into the top of your playing partner’s bag. (You do this because they won’t be able to see them; if you load them in their bag’s pockets they might eventually notice.)

Be warned, though: you can’t put all the balls in at once since the weight difference would be noticeable, but done gradually it can sneak under the radar.

“It’s as simple as that,” Stoltz said. “All it takes is a few compliments (to distract them and drop in the balls), a little slight of hand and all of a sudden your opponent will deteriorate down the stretch, thus resulting in more money in your pocket.

“And if your friends are anything like mine, the last thing they will do is admit to the bag being too heavy.”
