The U.S. Open at Winged Foot is halfway done, which leaves us with 62 golfers making the cut in the year’s second major. Eighty-two players failed to advance to the weekend, including Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

Mickelson may have played his final U.S. Open, as he has run out of automatic exemptions and is now 50 years old. After a rough, first-round 79, Mickelson followed it up with a 74 on Friday, but was never really in contention to make the weekend.

As for Woods, the cutline was at least in mind throughout the first half of his round on Friday. Woods began at three over in the afternoon, when the cutline was looking mostly solidified. And with just one bogey through five holes, he looked to be in decent shape, but Woods finished his first nine with two double bogeys in three holes. Then he turned to the front and added four bogeys before two birdies to finish. It was a 10-over week for Woods, and the cut line ended up being seven over.

“It’s frustrating that I’m not going to be here for the weekend and be able to compete for this great championship,” Woods said afterward. “It feels like the way the golf course is changing, is turning, that anybody who makes the cut has the opportunity to win this championship. I didn’t get myself that opportunity.”

Beyond the elder statesmen, defending champion Gary Woodland missed the cut at eight over and revealed he’s struggling with a torn labrum in his hip. Tommy Fleetwood matched Woodland at eight over with a pair of 74s. Justin Rose quietly carded the same scores as Woods for a 10-over week, and Jordan Spieth blew up Friday with an 81 to miss the cut at 14 over.
