Tiger Woods made his much-anticipated return to professional golf at the 2022 Masters on Thursday, where he blew away expectations by shooting a one-under 71 to get into contention. Friday’s second round didn’t start off with the same kind of positive energy.

To open Round 2, Woods made bogey at the 1st, and then followed it up with three more bogeys over the next four holes. It seemed like Woods would go from in contention to missing the cut on a windy day at Augusta National. But he wasn’t done yet.

Birdies at 8, 10, 13 and 14 brought him charging back up the leaderboard. After a clutch two-putt par save at 18, Woods signed for a two-over 74, leaving him at one over for the tournament, comfortably inside the cut line and with a chance to go for his sixth Masters win this weekend.

All times ET. Refresh for updates.

6:49 p.m.: Tiger drains it! That’s a hard-fought round of 74 for the Big Cat, who is currently T19. On to tomorrow!

6:46 p.m.: A nice lag for Tiger leaves him with about five feet to save par.

6:44 p.m.: A birdie on 15 brings Scheffler to seven under overall. He’s now four shots ahead of his closest competitor.

6:38 p.m.: Tiger smokes a 7-iron onto the back of the green. Will be a very lengthy two-putt for par.

6:33 p.m.: He finds the fairway on 18!

6:31 p.m.: That’s a par for Tiger, and he heads to his final hole of the day.

6:24 p.m.: Tiger’s second shot finds the fringe of the green. It’s not close, but he’ll have a putt at it, and at the very least, a hopefully ho-hum regulation par.

6:19 p.m.: Another striped drive for Tiger on 17. Baby fade.

6:15 p.m.: Tiger’s putt burns the edge! He settles for par.

6:09 p.m.: No. 16 is playing 166 yards today. Tiger hits a beautiful shot, which rolls out to about five feet from the hole. Another birdie look! Meanwhile, Scheffler moves to six under — a three-shot lead — after a birdie on 13.

6:04 p.m.: Tiger hits a nice putt but it misses on the low side. Still, a par. Three holes remaining in the second round.

6:02 p.m.: Woof. Tiger misjudges his chip and nearly rolls off the green into the water. Now he has a lengthy look at birdie.

5:56 p.m.: Tiger goes for it from 253 yards and absolutely smokes it! It ends up just off the back of the green — great positioning for yet another birdie opportunity.

5:50 p.m.: A nice drive for Tiger on 15. Center-cut, once again. Seems like he’s in a good zone right now.

5:48 p.m.: He drains it! That makes birdies on three of his last five holes. What a run. He’s now one over and six behind Scheffler’s lead.

5:43 p.m.: Tiger hits a magnificent approach, giving himself another short birdie look of about six feet. Let’s goooooo!

5:38 p.m.: Tiger smokes one with the driver on 14. Center cut!

5:36 p.m.: Nice birdie for Tiger on 13! He’s now two over, but he’s still seven back after a Scheffler birdie on 12. Scheffler now leads by two at five under.

5:31 p.m.: Tiger executes a beautiful chip shot to give himself a short look at birdie. Let’s go!

5:26 p.m.: Tiger doesn’t like love second shot, but he jokes that it’s a “perfect layup.” He’ll have a chip into the green for his third shot.

5:18 p.m.: Tiger goes with a 3-wood off the 13th tee. He goes right, but the ball creeps out of the pine straw into the fairway.

5:10 p.m.: Tiger cleans up his bogey. He’s now three over and seven shots back. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler is now leading the Masters at four under par.

5:05 p.m.: Tiger’s bunker shots ends up on the fringe, and his par attempt burns the edge. That stings.

5:00 p.m.: Ugh, Tiger’s tee shot ends up in the back bunker on 12.

4:54 p.m.: Here’s a look at Tiger’s incredible approach that led to a birdie on 10:

4:53 p.m.: Ah, man. Miss for Tiger. He’s back to two over and five back. But he still gets a nice ovation as he approaches the 12th tee.

4:49 p.m.: Tiger’s chip runs away from him a bit, setting up yet another par save — this one from about six feet.

4:45 p.m.: Tiger is left with 212, right on the seam of the pine straw and the second cut. He hits a mighty cut which ends up just short of the green — a good leave.

4:39 p.m.: Tiger’s drive on 11 finds the right side. Could be an interesting lie in the pine straw.

4:35 p.m.: Birdie for Tiger! Second in the last four holes. He’s now one over and just four back.

4:29 p.m.: WOW, Tiger stuffs it!! He’ll have three feet for birdie. Just perfect!

4:22 p.m.: Tiger finds the fairway on 10, but the ball hangs up a bit on the slope. Will be a tricky approach with an uneven lie. But hey, aren’t they all at Augusta?

4:18 p.m.: He made it! That nice save for par should give him some momentum as he begins the back nine. Despite all the trouble at the beginning of his round, Tiger is still only five shots off the lead.

4:13 p.m.: Tiger leaves himself with a tricky six-footer to save par.

4:11 p.m.: Tiger didn’t like that approach at all. He dropped the club on his follow-through. But the shot was terrible. It ended up just about pin high, but off the green to the right. He’ll need a tidy up-and-down to save par.

4:02 p.m.: Tiger keeps the momentum rolling with a fairway-finding tee shot. He’s got something cooking for the first time all day. We’ll see if he can capitalize.

3:57 p.m.: BEAUTIFUL pitch. That settles within gimme range and Tiger will get a shot back here.

3:51 p.m.: He elects to go with 3-wood and tries to sling it around the corner. The ball ends up even with the green but a bit the the right. He will have an opportunity to get up and down for birdie.

3:44 p.m.: Tiger pulls driver and tugs his tee shot just a bit, but still finds the fairway. Let’s see how he decides to play the par-5 that he bogeyed yesterday.

3:36 p.m.: Smooth roll coming back. Two pars in a row. Still four over on the day.

3:35 p.m.: Yikes. Tiger powers his birdie putt through the break and has about four feet coming back for par.

3:32 p.m.: Tiger’s approach is safely aboard. Birdie putt upcoming!

3:25 p.m.: Beautiful tee shot at the par-4 7th. Starts it up the left side and lets it drift back into the center of the fairway.

3:19 p.m.: Nice lag up near the hole for Tiger. He’ll clean that up and head to the 7th still at four over for the day.

3:14 p.m.: Ok, he’s found the green. Tiger hits his tee shot at the 6th to the left center of the green and will have a long look at birdie.

3:05 p.m.: Burns the edge — another bogey. He’s now three over for the tournament and sits on the cutline. This is not the start he’d imagined.

3:00 p.m.: Solid shot there. Ball pitches near the flag and then spins back down the hill a touch. He’s got about 10 feet to save par.

2:56 p.m.: No choice but to pitch out from here. Tiger will need a heck of an up and down to keep from dropping his fourth shot of the day.

2:53 p.m.: Tee shot on No. 5 is another poor swing. This one flares well right of the fairway past the patrons. Things have gone from bad to worse.

2:49 p.m.: Mediocre pitch and then he leaves the par putt short. That’s another bogey and Tiger has dropped three shots over the first four holes. Missing the cut is a legitimate possibility.

2:42 p.m.: Tiger pushes it again, this time short and right of the greenside bunker. Things could get out of hand quickly if he can’t save par here.

2:34 p.m.: Another miss … The ball slides left of the hole and Tiger drops to two over for the day, one over for the tournament.

2:31 p.m.: He elects to go with a bump and run down the slope and it runs out about eight feet past. He’ll have a look to save par and keep from dropping over par for the first time all tournament.

2:25 p.m.: Another miss to the right. Tiger will have to lean on his short game yet again as he tries to get up and down for par.

2:18 p.m.: Iron off the tee and he finds the right side of the fairway.

2:14 p.m.: Birdie putt justtt burns the edge. Will leave a tap-in for par as he starts the day 5-5.

2:11 p.m.: Tiger’s approach doesn’t quite reach the back hole location. He’ll have ~25 feet up the hill for birdie.

2:06 p.m.: Comfy layup into the middle of the fairway. He should have a wedge in his hands from there as he looks to get back into red numbers.

2:02 p.m.: Tiger goes with driver off the tee and once again pushes it a touch right. The ball runs out into the fairway bunker and he’ll be forced to layup on this par-5.

1:56 p.m.: Slides just past on the high side. Cleans up for bogey and moves to even for the week.

1:54 p.m.: Chip shot runs across the green and settles about eight feet past the hole. Will have a tester coming up.

1:50 p.m.: He pushed that one a bit, too. Started right and faded just a touch. He’ll have a lot of green to work with as he tries to get up and down from the right side of the green.

1:43 p.m.: And we’re off. Tiger pushes his opening drive into the right fairway bunker. Should still have a look at the green from there.

1:41 p.m.: Good afternoon, folks! Tiger is on the tee for his second round at the 86th Masters. He will be playing in a twosome today with Joaquin Niemann after Louis Oosthuizen’s WD this morning. Let’s have a day.
