Matthew Wolff is closing in on the second victory of his professional career Sunday at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The 21-year-old phenom holds a three-shot lead at 19 under heading into Sunday at Detroit Golf Club and, somehow, that only tells half the story.
Wolff has made 25 birdies or better already this week, the most of any PGA Tour player in the opening 54 holes of a weekend this season. On Friday, he made six consecutive birdies, none of which came from further than 11 feet from the hole. The back-to-back 64s he posted in rounds 2 and 3 are the second-lowest scores of his PGA Tour career to date.
In short, Matthew Wolff is on a heater.
Hot on Wolff’s tail? Bryson DeChambeau, even amid quarrels with CBS cameramen. DeChambeau sits tied for second at 16 under par, three strokes back of the lead.
Below is the prize money and winner’s share for the Rocket Mortgage Classic’s $7.5 million purse; you can watch all the action from the final round Sunday on Golf Channel (from 1-3:00 p.m. ET) and CBS (starting at 3:00 p.m.).
