Flasks have been around since the Stone Age (literally), but it wasn’t until fairly recently in the history of humankind that they became practical vessels for holding concealed libations. It was the 1920s, during the peak of Prohibition, when men and women tucked flasks into their pockets, handbags and briefcases to smuggle booze and sneak a drink here and there.

They’re especially handy for the golfer on the go — perfect for a quick nip to chill first-tee jitters or to ease the pain of a six-hour round. And no, they aren’t just for booze. But then again, why would you use one for anything else?

Among our favorite models are custom-made flasks from popular beltmaker Doc Murphy (front; $50; docmurphyusa.com), which mixes fabric patterns with leather accents and choose-your-own artwork.

Next is the Tempercraft flask (middle; $30; tempercraft.com) made of double-walled, vacuum-insulated stainless steel (with optional custom engraving) that features isothermic technology to keep your drink hot for six hours or cold for an entire day.

Third, the elegant stainless flask with leather wrap from Winston Collection (rear; $50; winstoncollection.com) is available in a smattering of colors with near endless custom debossing and embroidery options to choose from. These are flasks you can carry with pride.
