Custom wedges are a common sight on the PGA Tour. It’s one of the many ways golf’s elite players can show off their personality on the course. Some custom wedge programs are available to the general public, but it wasn’t until this week that you could get the same specialized Milled Grind 2 treatment as TaylorMade staffers Rory McIloy, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson.

Thanks to TaylorMade’s MyMG2 program, it’s now possible to add some character to your scoring clubs. The program consists of four different head finishes, including the unplated raw finish — removing the plating accelerates the rust process — preferred by Tiger Woods, McIlroy and a number of other staffers. Cobalt nickel, chrome and black round out the finish options.

In the customization department, everything from the MG2 logo, loft and bounce numbers, TaylorMade logo and rings on the hosel can be personalized with the help of 13 different paint fills. The wedge package also includes selecting from various stamps (straight text, curved text, initials and logos), nine different shafts and six different grip options, as well as the precise loft, lie, length and grip specs.

“With Raw Face Technology and the Milled Grind sole, MG2 wedges are the ultimate in consistency and precision,” said Bill Price, TaylorMade’s senior director of product creation, putter and wedge. “With the new MyMG2, now you’re able to make it precisely your own. We offer a number of personalization options so you can design a wedge that’s truly unique to your game and your preferences.”

Released late last year, the MG2 wedge is designed around the same CNC milled sole found on Tiger’s P7TW irons. Utilizing a CNC milling machine to precisely map out the sole ensures the leading edge and sole geometry is consistent from head to head.

The ZTP raw grooves offer a deeper, narrower groove, along with a sharper radius, to increase the amount of zip each wedge is able to produce. Laser etching between each groove reduces skidding up the face and enables the ball to produce a consistent launch while generating more friction at impact for ample greenside spin.

Because the face is raw, there’s an oxidization process that occurs once the face is exposed to the elements. To keep the face fresh, each head features a 3M adhesive sticker covering the grooves. Once the sticker is removed, the grooves will immediately begin to oxidize, which begins the rusting process.

TaylorMade’s MyMG2 wedge retails for $225 and is currently available on taylormadegolf.com.
