Fresh off a return from The Open, I’m writing about golf shoes. That’s right, golf shoes. Because besides hanging out at Royal Liverpool for a week, those late sunsets allow us golf writers to sneak in a couple of twilight rounds. You know what they say, when in Hoylake.
But back to the golf shoes, which are ever more crucial when playing across the pond. That’s because you walk — you wouldn’t dare take a cart to play those historic links courses in England (or buggies, which is what they call them) — so you need something reliable.
Enter Payntr Golf, which is still relatively new to the shoe business but one worth knowing about. I wore the Payntr Golf X 001 F model, which are spikeless, comfortable and breathable. They also boast water-resistant protection and offer great support — it’s essentially everything you’d want in a good golf walking shoe.
David Paynter is the founder of the Payntr brand, and he teamed with golf-shoe experts Mike Forsey and Michael Glancy Jr. — who have both spent decades in the industry — to co-found Payntr Golf in 2020.
The brand’s shoes are big on traction — allowing golfers to take advantage of ground reaction forces — and creating something that offers any sort of performance advantage possible.
Style is a big part of the equation, too, and that’s important to me (actually the most important). These things look really sleek. I even had a couple of people ask me about them, and I was happy to spill the details. I went with the white shoes with blue trim, which is subtle and sharp — just how all their designs are and exactly how I like it. (There’s also some sneaky cool designs on the bottom of the shoes.)
There are other colors and models to choose from, too, including wide options. The brand has also expanded to women’s and juniors shoes and offers both spike and spikeless options. Click here for more information, and click here to learn more about the tech behind the shoes.
