NBA Hall of Famer Ray Allen dishes on his lowest round and limiting on-course expectations

Ray Allen’s pure stroke on the court has followed him to the golf course since he hung up his high-tops in 2016. The two-time NBA champion discussed his game, gear and more during a recent episode of GOLF.com’s Fully Equipped podcast.

Below are a few highlights, and you can watch the full interview at the bottom of this post:

On his career-low round (63)…

“What’s crazy is it should’ve been 61. I was hitting the ball everywhere but making putts. I made an eagle on a par-4. It was just one of those rounds where I didn’t worry about anything except stepping up and hitting the ball.”

On limiting on-course expectations…

“I think we’re happier in life if we limit our expectations. Because we think we’re supposed to do something and when it doesn’t happen, we get disappointed. As a good golfer, you expect to hit the ball in the fairway, on the green and make the putt. But the minute you make that par, you think, Man, that should’ve been a birdie. If you manage expectations and start with a lower, more attainable bar, that’s where I’ve found you start shooting lower scores.”
