If you’re keeping up with the WM Phoenix Open, you’ll know the opening days have been wet, windy and cold at TPC Scottsdale. The pros and caddies can barely feel their hands, but the (greatest) show must go on!

The Tour pro-tip to warm hands

Historically, the pros are sweating in the desert heat at this tournament, but not this year. The cold rain and wind are full-blast. Caddies are doing all they can with the umbrella holding, which is a must on a day like this, but when the caddies step away, these pros are depending solely on their outfits (and accessories such as the G-Tech Handwarmer, which NFL pros are well-known to use on snowy sidelines) to keep them protected from the frigid elements.

Erik van Rooyen was well-prepared for the elements with his G-Tech hand warmer strapped to his waist. His warm hands could be one of the reasons why his tee shot on TPC’s famous 16th has been the best one yet today on that hole. And, man, what a shot. The crowd went wild.

Keeping equipment dry

Staying warm is important, but pros are also doing all they can to keep their in-hand equipment as dry as possible for a chance at rolling straighter putts and hitting better shots. You’ll notice caddies are on a mission, wiping club faces and grips at the last moment, carrying a multitude of dry towels under their umbrellas.

Caddies are also carrying a stockpile of gloves. Pros and their caddies know anyone can compromise a swing by gripping too tightly. Instead of gripping the club tighter to keep from it slipping in hand on a wet day like this, it’s a great idea to swap into an extra glove that is a little dryer. The pros and all good caddies know keeping a gentle grip is key in a good golf shot, so dry gloves are top of mind today.

Men’s UA Spieth Tour Glove

$25
Just like Jordan Spieth himself, these gloves are built to perform on any course, at any time. Super-light materials and a flexible fit will keep you feeling fresh and focused round after round.

Many pros opted for a beanie today. Some of them chose to add it over their caps so they could keep the rain from their eyes and their head and ears warm. A beanie with sweat-wicking technology (like either of the ones featured below) is an ideal and practical solution to refrain from the rain.

Though the fans think the weather’s fine…

It’s not only the pros and caddies who are weathering the storm going into this weekend. It’s awesome to see fans unbothered by the less-than-preferable weather — there were guys in the front row of the 16th going strong with no shirt and having a wonderful time — but it’s just as important for those outside the ropes to dress for fashion and function. The selections above can help with that.
