The names and faces at the TaylorMade Driving Relief skins match will be familiar — even if it’s been a few months since we’ve seen Rory, Rickie and the rest of the four-man crew in a competitive golf environment. What will likely look out of place and unfamiliar to some viewers is the sight of feathery carry bags (sans caddie) instead of the hulking staff bags that have become part of the fabric of professional golf.

With social distancing measures still in place, the two-on-two match at Seminole should have a casual weekend round vibe as all four players sling their own sticks at one of the most elite clubs in the world.

“It’s definitely nice having a caddie carrying my bag,” said Matthew Wolff, who earned his first PGA Tour win last season at the 2019 3M Championship. “But with a carry bag, it shouldn’t be too hard. Seminole is a pretty easy walk.”

As for the bags they’ll be carrying, Wolff, along with fellow TaylorMade staffers Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson, will be strolling the lush fairways at Seminole with the company’s FlexTech Lite bag ($219.99) in the “SIM Blue” colorway. The bag weighs just 4 pounds and features a smooth release FlexTech stand system, four-way club divider and 8 pockets for accessories, personal belongings and whatever else you stuff inside the bag.

In addition to full-size side pockets, there’s also a “ranger finder capsule” that provides each access to your unit when you need to get a yardage to the front.

Rickie Fowler is the only member of the match who won’t be carrying a TaylorMade bag. While he does play TaylorMade’s TP5 Pix golf ball, the 5-time Tour winner is under contract with Cobra/Puma for his clubs and apparel.

It’ll likely be a game-time bag decision for Fowler, who has two Cobra options at his disposal — the Ultralight Sunday bag ($129.99; Black/Orange colorway) and Ultralight stand bag ($189.99; Grey/Orange colorway). The Sunday weighs just 3.8 pounds and is equipped with a three-way divider, multiple pockets for apparel and valuables and a mesh pocket for beverages. The Ultralight is just slightly heavier (4.5 pounds) with a five-way divider, insulated beverage pocket, and shoulder straps (along with a hip pad) designed with Cobra’s CoolFlow foam to enhance breathability.

The golf bag rarely receives anything more than a passing glance when professional golfers hit the course, but Sunday will likely be an exception when Rory, DJ, Rickie and Wolff are front and center.
