Realizing not everyone has the time to consume endless content on club launch day, we’re trying something different and offering a fresh version of our detailed tech write-ups that hits the high points. Here’s everything you need to know about Cleveland’s ZipCore XL and Halo XL FullFace irons, coming to retail on January 19th.

Maximum Forgiveness

Cleveland has aggressively positioned itself as a company making easy-to-hit clubs, designed for maximum fun and enjoyment of the game, and with both the ZipCore XL and Halo XL FullFace irons, they’ve created two options to help golfers do just that.

“We designed these Irons with the intent to let the clubs do all the hard work with optimized tech features like our XL head designs and MainFrame to ensure maximum forgiveness. Our goal was easy. We wanted golfers to see better results on the course with products made specifically for their needs.” – Dustin Brekke, Director of Engineering at Cleveland Golf.

Forgiveness where you need it and precision where you want it is at the heart of the ZipCore XL irons design.

Clevelands MainFrame technology Cleveland Golf

The longer 4-7-irons are equipped with Cleveland’s MainFrame technology that positions CNC grooves and channels on the back of the face to increase flex to help deliver more ball speed — especially on mishits.

Go big and get it close? Yes, please. With all-new ZipCore XL Irons, you get both. AI-designed MainFrame faces and weighting, along with our legendary ZipCore technology, combine to deliver all of the power, control, and confidence you need to hit it far and stick it close without fail. MAINFRAME Designed with the help of AI, MainFrame uses a variable network of grooves, channels, and cavities milled into the backside of the club face on ZipCore XL’s 4i–7i. This pattern helps maximize flex at impact for better COR. ZIPCORE In 8i–SW lofts, ZipCore replaces heavy steel in the hosel and heel with an extremely lightweight yet strong, vibration dampening material. This sets the Center of Gravity right where you strike the ball, giving you more consistent launch, spin, and distance. XL HEAD DESIGN Cleveland’s XL Head Design features a large, cavity back profile with enhanced shaping and weighting throughout the entire lineup.

As for the short irons and wedges (8-Sw), for the first time, Cleveland has brought two of its key technologies from its highly touted wedges into its iron line to help with scoring from all conditions and better mass distribution in the head with their HydraZip face technology and ZipCore.

HydraZip helps to make spin more consistent with the help of a special blast applied to the face, to further help with spin consistency, the irons feature loft-specific grooves to better optimize spin from the longer to the shorter irons.

Cleveland Golf RTX 6 Zipcore Custom Wedge

$169.99
New RTX 6 ZipCore Wedges are designed to unlock maximum spin performance across the golf course, regardless of lie. Yep, that includes the fairway, rough, sand, and even in wet conditions. You might think Wedge shots spin far less in rough or wet conditions. But with the all-new RTX 6 ZipCore, when it comes to spin, it’s all lies. By combining our new HydraZip face, UltiZip grooves, and upgraded ZipCore tech, these Wedges are designed to improve spin, conditions be darned. HYDRAZIP How’d we pack so much spin into RTX 6 ZipCore Wedges? HydraZip. That’s how. HydraZip technology features a dynamic blast and laser-milled line system designed to maximize spin in wet or dry conditions, and from anywhere around the green. MAX SPIN. ANY CONDITION. The striking areas of RTX 6 ZipCore Wedges include dynamic blast media and laser patterns specific to loft groupings 46°–48°, 50°–52°, and 54°–60°. Lower lofts receive a less rough blast, while higher lofts receive a rougher blast and more laser lines for more consistent dry and wet spin performance across the course. ZIPCORE Our proprietary, low-density core technology sets the Center of Gravity right where you strike the ball, giving you more consistent performance and enhanced forgiveness. Meanwhile, by adding an abundance of high/low and heel/toe MOI into every loft in the line, you’ll enjoy increased spin, consistency, feel, and control. ULTIZIP UltiZip equips RTX 6 ZipCore Wedges with a specialized sequence of deep groove lines with our sharpest groove radii ever. Tighter grooves offer more serious bite, while deeper grooves create space for grass, sand, dirt, or water to evacuate the impact zone.

Last but not least, the ZipCore XL irons utilize Cleveland’s V-shaped sole to add more bounce while reducing the size of the trailing edge of the club. This helps prevent digging on shots that might be hit a little heavy, while still offering face control and workability on touch shots.

Halo XL FullFace irons

the Halo XL hybrid style design offers maximum forgiveness Cleveland Golf

The looks of the Halo XL FullFace irons are quick to grab anyone’s attention thanks to their hybrid-iron design to deliver maximum forgiveness and high launch. Also as the name suggests, the FullFace irons feature full-face grooves for the first time in an iron design to create a larger effective hitting area to help maintain spin, and that’s to go along with the 20% larger striking area to further boost MOI.

On the inside, the Halo XL FullFace irons utilize the same AI-designed MainFrame XL technology as the Halo XL woods to expand the effective size of the sweet spot to boost distance and forgiveness, but with evolving variable face thickness through the entire set to best match how each club is most often missed based on player testing data.

Gliderails help to lower the center of gravity and improve turf interaction Cleveland Golf

A key attribute of the Halo XL FullFace irons is the Glide Rails on the sole of the longer clubs that match the design of the XL woods and hybrids to help lower the center of gravity by positioning extra mass on the sole and to help deliver more effective turf interaction to better maintain a square face through the impact zone. To also help golfers with easy alignment the bottom two grooves are painted with a high-contrast white to make getting square to the target easier.

Cleveland Action Mass CB 2024
Cleveland’s Action Mass CB helps to make the Halo XL woods easier to swing Cleveland Golf

More technology carried over from Launcher XL2 drivers and Halo XL woods is Action Mass CB (counterbalance) to help make the club feel lighter and easier to control by placing an 8-gram counterweight under the extreme butt end of the grip. Testing has proven that counterbalanced clubs feel lighter, promote a more stable and controlled backswing, and encourage a more inside club path leading to a more square face at impact.

Wanna get better? Go bigger. All-new HALO XL Full-Face Irons give you both. Bigger, hollow heads for more forgiveness. Better spin thanks to HydraZip face blasts. Better turf interaction from three enhanced sole designs. And bigger, full-face grooves—an industry-first for an Iron—for better strike performance across the face. MAINFRAME FACE Using a multi-step AI computing process, we simulated thousands of the most common strikes across the club face, emphasized the impact locations, and evaluated the performance characteristics. FULL-FACE GROOVES For the first time ever in an Iron, HALO XL features full-face grooves, so you can step up, swing, and send it with serious spin on every shot. This hosel-to-toe groove configuration performs no matter where you strike the ball.  ALIGNMENT LINES HALO XL Full-Face features a new, two-groove alignment system for reliable, consistent aim. Two thicker, white grooves on the bottom of the face help you keep the face square at address, centered behind the ball, and in-line with your target.
