<html><body><p class="first">NAPA, Calif. &mdash; The clocks read 1:30 in the afternoon, which was a bit past lunchtime, and the players had been on the course for about three hours already, which is a bit long for a nine-hole practice round, so Scott Vail could&rsquo;ve said bunker sand was on the menu, and his boss&rsquo; appetite would&rsquo;ve been appeased.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>But when <a href="https://golf.com/news/how-keegan-bradley-caddie-found-out-ryder-cup-captaincy">Vail</a> told him Silverado Resort had, in fact, burgerdogs, which are even greater than they sound, <a href="https://golf.com/news/keegan-bradley-ryder-cup-road-bethpage">Keegan Bradley</a> said just two words to his longtime caddie.</p>



<p>&ldquo;Doooo they?&rdquo;</p>

<p>Last Tuesday, from a food truck parked near the practice green, they did. Bradley waited in line for <a href="https://golf.com/lifestyle/food/how-to-make-famous-burgerdog">the hamburger-hot dog concoction</a>. Players did too. At the <a href="https://golf.com/news/2025-procore-championship-payout-heres-how-much-every-player-made">Procore Championship</a>, 10 of them had been using the week as both a PGA Tour tournament and a tune-up for next week&rsquo;s Ryder Cup at <a href="https://golf.com/travel/ryder-cup-bethpage-black-transition">Bethpage Black</a> on Long Island, N.Y. All of it had been one of Bradley&rsquo;s bigger moves as captain. At the last Ryder Cup two years ago, just three of the 12 Americans played in the two-week lead-up, compared to all dozen of their European counterparts, and the Euros rolled, 16.5-11.5. This year in Napa, then, the Americans played. One of them, <a href="https://golf.com/news/scottie-scheffler-ryder-cup-tiger-woods-procore/">Scottie Scheffler</a>, won. Another, <a href="https://golf.com/news/ben-griffin-3-putt-finish-2-words">Ben Griffin</a>, finished runner-up.&nbsp;</p>



<p>They burgerdogged too.&nbsp;</p>



<p>As is often the case with captains, coaches and commanders, there&rsquo;s a question of motivation. How do you create buy-in? In the Ryder Cup, that&rsquo;s harder. Golf is an individual pursuit, and there it&rsquo;s not. Getting players to run through a clubhouse wall isn&rsquo;t easy. There are means to do so, of course. Playing for country. Playing for teammates.&nbsp;</p>



<p>To Bradley, it&rsquo;s partially that.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>In 2012, he played in his first Ryder Cup. The Americans lost in what&rsquo;s become known as the Miracle at Medinah, after a 8.5-3.5 European whalloping in Sunday singles at Medinah CC in Illinois. Things were emotional. Two years later, Bradley played again. The Americans lost again. Things were emotional again. Then, at Gleneagles in Scotland, Bradley&rsquo;s Sunday singles loss to Jamie Donaldson was the deciding point in a 16.5-11.5 Euro win. But Bradley&rsquo;s never played since then. Two years ago, he was close, but was bypassed for the team, with the selection news memorably shown on Netflix&rsquo;s &ldquo;Full Swing&rdquo; show. This year, with a chance to pick himself, he chose just to captain. Eleven years ago, Bradley might have believed he&rsquo;d be a Cup anchor for the next decade-plus. But golf isn&rsquo;t linear.&nbsp;</p>



<p>So to his team of a dozen, Bradley&rsquo;s message is personal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Make the most of it.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The play. The team. The burgerdogs. All of it.&nbsp;</p>



<p>&ldquo;I think as a kid in sports, you always are craving that team atmosphere,&rdquo; Bradley said. &ldquo;With golf, we don&rsquo;t get that ever. When you&rsquo;re playing for your country in any sport, it heightens all of that. I think for us, we really only get one time a year to do this.&nbsp;</p>



<p>&ldquo;When you&rsquo;re a part of it,&rdquo; Bradley said, &ldquo;it really, it changes you forever, it really does. It changes the way you prepare, it changes the way you set your goals for the year, for your career. In golf, you&rsquo;re so alone all the time in this process. Then when you&rsquo;re in a team room or even just having dinner last night and you&rsquo;re looking around at the guys and they&rsquo;re all in this together. You&rsquo;re looking at guys from <a href="https://golf.com/news/j-j-spauns-u-s-open-life-changing-move">J.J. Spaun</a> to Ben Griffin to Scottie Scheffler and all of a sudden we&rsquo;re all on the same team here. It&rsquo;s really such a special feeling to be a part of because it&rsquo;s so rare.&nbsp;</p>



<p>&ldquo;What I&rsquo;ve been telling the team as well is you never know when your last Ryder Cup is. My last Ryder Cup was the deciding point with Jamie Donaldson and I certainly didn&rsquo;t think that was my last shot in a Ryder Cup. You really want to enjoy every second of these because you never know when it&rsquo;s done.&rdquo;</p>



<p>How has the team responded to that message?</p>



<p>&ldquo;They get it because we&rsquo;ve got &mdash; you know, at some point this is going to end for all of us,&rdquo; Bradley said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s going to end for Scottie. I tell them it ended for <a href="https://golf.com/news/jack-nicklaus-favorite-thing-about-golf-warm-your-heart">Jack Nicklaus</a>, guys like that, best player, one of the Mount Rushmore players ever. You have to enjoy these moments because you never know when it&rsquo;s done.&nbsp;</p>



<p>&ldquo;You never know when it&rsquo;s your last dinner like last night, you never know when it&rsquo;s your last time hanging in the team room with the guys, so you have to cherish every second.&rdquo;</p>



<p>Is the thought new? By no means. Eminem even once rapped about it in &ldquo;Lose Yourself.&rdquo; (&ldquo;You better lose yourself in the music, the moment, you own it, you better never let it go. (Go.) You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo.&rdquo;) But is the idea a way to play with your driver on fire, so to say? Potentially.&nbsp;</p>



<p>It&rsquo;s at least been heard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last Thursday, after the first round of the Procore event, Griffin was asked what the best moment of a team dinner two days earlier had been. It had been held at a rented house near the resort. Buffet-style food was served. Wine was available. It was fun, the U.S. Ryder Cup first-timer said.&nbsp;</p>



<p>But he left remembering what Bradley told the room:</p>



<p>Don&rsquo;t take those burgerdogs you had for lunch for granted.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>&ldquo;You know, one of the coolest things, not the coolest but one thing Keegan kind of brought up is you just don&rsquo;t know how many Ryder Cups you&rsquo;re going to play on,&rdquo; Griffin said, &ldquo;so just to really soak in all the moments you have with these guys, soak in the fact that you&rsquo;re one of the 12 best American golfers, and really embrace and build bonds with each and every other guy.&nbsp;</p>



<p>&ldquo;I mean, we have our own talks about staying competitive and what we&rsquo;re trying to do at Bethpage, but I&rsquo;d say the most important message was just really have fun with each other.&rdquo;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-golf-stuff-i-like">GOLF STUFF I LIKE</h3>



<p><em>Getting honest about short putts.</em></p>



<p>We may be well into football season now, but the golf competitions this weekend were many, varied and filled with delight and anguish. There were pros fighting for their jobs and amateurs showing off. There were unofficial Ryder Cup training camps happening in parallel. And while there was a World No. 1 who snuck out a win,&nbsp;there was also a World No. 1 who kicked one away. The latter two were the standout moments of the week: a heartbreaking three-putt and an even <em>more</em> heartbreaking four-putt that decided the events on the PGA and LPGA Tours, respectively.</p>



<p>My favorite sound bite that emerged from that mess was <strong>Charley Hull</strong>, winner of the Kroger Queen City Championship, describing how she&rsquo;d felt over a one-foot putt on the last. Initially she&rsquo;d expected the putt to cement her one-shot loss. But after <strong>Jeeno Thitikul</strong> took a shocking four putts to get down for bogey, suddenly Hull&rsquo;s shortie was far more consequential: it was to win her first tournament in more than three years. Hull began to address her putt, stepped off it, returned to it, stepped off again and then finally holed it &mdash;&nbsp;although from the angle on TV it didn&rsquo;t exactly look like it went in the center.</p>



<p>&ldquo;I feel like I was pretty calm coming into the green, I knew I had to hole the putt for eagle,&rdquo; Hull said. She was down a shot to Thitikul, who&rsquo;d hit the par-5 finisher in two shots; Hull assumed her opponent would two-putt from there. &ldquo;Missed it and had a [one-]foot putt. When I realized I had it for the win I had this mad shock of adrenaline come through me and my hands were like, shaking.</p>



<p>&ldquo;I was like, <em>oh, no.</em> Usually I can calm it down in like five minutes &mdash;&nbsp;but I had to play straightaway. I had to back off it twice. I don&rsquo;t know how like Tiger Woods won that many tournaments, that much pressure. It was just a shock.</p>



<p>&ldquo;If I knew it was to win coming up the hole I think I would&rsquo;ve been fine. I think I was just so shocked. Yeah, I holed it and it was good. Even though it was a foot putt, they feel like 10-footers.&rdquo;</p>



<p>If a one-footer felt like a 10-footer to Hull, it&rsquo;s tough to know the conversion rate to <strong>Ben Griffin</strong>&lsquo;s <a href="https://golf.com/news/ben-griffin-3-putt-finish-2-words/">five-foot second putt</a> on the par-5 finisher at the Procore Championship. But he made no excuses when that putt wandered wide left, a final gift to a man who doesn&rsquo;t need one, <strong>Scottie Scheffler</strong>, who&rsquo;d suddenly won for the sixth time this season.</p>



<p>&ldquo;I had a couple on the front nine that I missed, and then I had a couple down the stretch that I missed from mid-range,&rdquo; Griffin said, referencing putts in that ticklish five- to eight-foot range. &ldquo;I make a good amount. It&rsquo;s just a bummer, seems like it&rsquo;s a consistent thing.&rdquo;</p>



<p>As he spoke a replay of his putt appeared on TV.</p>



<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll look at it, I&rsquo;ll watch all my &mdash; there&rsquo;s my putt, yeah, just broke a little bit.&rdquo; And then he seemed to move on in real time. &ldquo;S&mdash; happens, I&rsquo;ll bounce back.&rdquo;</p>



<p>It struck me that both admissions were therapeutic. Hull admitting how nervous she&rsquo;d been and Griffin admitting there&rsquo;s something troubling him in that five-foot range. Thitikul didn&rsquo;t address the media post-round and I wonder if she would have been better off had she taken it head-on. After all, if you admit you choked away a lead, what&rsquo;s the worst thing anybody <em>else</em> can say about you?</p>



<p>Hull&rsquo;s win was a victory for press conference fans everywhere, as she was a quote machine all week &mdash;&nbsp;you can add &ldquo;pain is a weakness of the mind&rdquo; to your lexicon &mdash;&nbsp;and was particularly insightful in victory. She&rsquo;s been battling injuries for months, she said, tearing a ligament in her foot in a parking lot and then pulling a muscle in her back lifting up a box. But she turned a nine-week estimated recovery into three. And she turned injury into an advantage.</p>



<p>&ldquo;I probably expect less and do less. My days are usually full out, going to the gym, golf, practice. When I&rsquo;m kind of [feeling] poorly or injured I do a lot less and I put less pressure on myself. Then I kind of do better sometimes.&rdquo;</p>



<p>It&rsquo;s tough to do better than winning. Credit to her for knocking in that one-footer &mdash;&nbsp;and for bringing us into that moment.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-winners">WINNERS</h3>



<p><em>Who won the week?</em></p>



<p><strong>Scottie Scheffler </strong>entered the Procore as <a href="https://golf.com/news/2025-procore-championship-odds-ryder-cup-favorites/">by far the favorite</a>, going off at unheard-of two-to-one odds, so it was hardly a shock that he emerged the winner. But there was something particularly striking about the way it all unfolded. Scheffler just kept climbing the leaderboard, kept stacking up birdies (including 10 in a third-round 64), kept watching guys alongside him waver and fall behind until only Griffin was left to challenge him. And when Griffin three-putted the final green? It felt like further proof how much better Scheffler is than everybody else. He didn&rsquo;t have to do anything spectacular, by his lofty standards, to win the golf tournament &mdash;&nbsp;but somebody else would have had to do something spectacular to beat him. And so Scheffler added to his greatness. </p>



<p>One thing that jumped out to me about <strong>Alex Noren</strong>&lsquo;s <a href="https://golf.com/news/ryder-cup-twist-snub-alex-noren-wins-bwm-pga/">win</a> at the BMW PGA Championship: his mindset the night before.</p>



<p>&ldquo;Yeah, it&rsquo;s going to be so much fun,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I love this. I&rsquo;m going to work a little bit with my coach now and pick out a few shots that I didn&rsquo;t feel comfortable over and do some putting stuff, and just get prepared for tomorrow with a clear mind what to do. It&rsquo;s so much fun, yeah.&rdquo;</p>



<p><strong>Charley Hull&rsquo;s</strong> win at the Kroger Queen City Championship was her third consecutive top-two finish but, her first LPGA win since 2022 &mdash;&nbsp;and just the third in her career. It was also the 25th LPGA Tour event this year and there have still been <em>zero</em> repeat winners.</p>



<p><strong>Zachary Bauchou </strong>may be best known as <strong>Viktor Hovland&rsquo;s</strong> ex-roommate and his Oklahoma State teammate; after winning this week&rsquo;s Simmons Bank Open on the Korn Ferry Tour he&rsquo;ll be playing on the PGA Tour next season. (Their team his senior year? It included Hovland, Matthew Wolff, Austin Eckroat and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen. No shock they won the stroke-play portion at nationals that year&hellip;)</p>



<p>And <strong>Michael Brennan</strong> won for the third time in his last four starts on the PGA Tour Americas; not only will he have his Korn Ferry Tour card for next year but he&rsquo;s climbed to No. 121 in the world, particularly impressive point accrual for someone on a lower-tier tour.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-not-winners">NOT-WINNERS</h3>



<p><em>A few notes on players who came close:</em></p>



<p>That one quote from <strong>Ben Griffin&rsquo;s</strong> near-miss seems to sum up his entire mentality this season:</p>



<p>&ldquo;S&mdash; happens.&nbsp;I&rsquo;ll bounce back.&rdquo;</p>



<p>His latest runner-up finish means he&rsquo;s been T14 or better in 11 of his last 13 starts. And if you ask literally anybody who has interacted with Griffin to describe him they will use the word &ldquo;confident&rdquo; (&ldquo;he&rsquo;s a guy that has<br />a lot of confidence, he&rsquo;s got a lot of self-belief,&rdquo; Scheffler said on Sunday) which means that although it&rsquo;s <em>possible</em> this short miss will carry over to the Ryder Cup and beyond, you&rsquo;re better off betting on Griffin these days than against him.</p>



<p><strong>Lanto Griffin </strong>may have narrowly lost the battle for Low Griffin but won the Procore&rsquo;s non-Ryder Cup category, finishing solo third if you include the Bethpage Boys. The result was significant for a guy who detailed his struggles with his swing, with recovery from injury and with the mental battle that comes from playing for your job. He moved from No. 280 in the world to No. 164 with the third-place result; he also moved to No. 100 in the FedEx Cup, a particularly significant number given the top 100 guys get full status at the end of the season.</p>



<p><strong>Rico Hoey&rsquo;s</strong> coach and caddie suggested that he try out a long putter; he&rsquo;s one of the PGA Tour&rsquo;s better ball-strikers but one of its worse putters. <strong>Keegan Bradley</strong> used to say that if he could just putt at field average he felt like he&rsquo;d have a good chance to play his way into contention; that&rsquo;d be a good North Star for Hoey. So far, so good: he was essentially neutral with the putter at the Procore (-.05 strokes gained) and finished T9.</p>



<p>&ldquo;With the long putter I thought it would be kind of hard to adjust to, but it&rsquo;s like you just set up to it and it&rsquo;s kind of easy,&rdquo; he said.</p>



<p><strong>Jeeno Thitikul </strong>had about as disappointing a second-place finish as you could imagine but still tightened her gip on World No. 1; she&rsquo;s at 11.48 average points, well ahead of No. 2 <strong>Nelly Korda</strong> (9.4) and in a different zip code than No. 3 Lydia Ko (6.45).</p>



<p><strong>Lottie Woad</strong> finished third; she turned pro only recently but has already ascended to No. 11 in the Rolex Rankings. And Korda, still winless on the season, played well as part of a group that finished T5.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-short-hitters">SHORT HITTERS</h3>



<p><em>Five non-Ryder-Cuppers who made statements.</em></p>



<p><strong>Alex Noren </strong>(winner) didn&rsquo;t just prove he&rsquo;s still got it at age 43, coming off injury &mdash;&nbsp;he won for the second time in his three most recent starts, beating arguably the strongest DP World Tour field of the year. As far as current form goes, the European vice captain is No. 21 in DataGolf&rsquo;s ranking, just one spot behind <strong>Robert MacIntyre </strong>and aead of other Ryder Cuppers like <strong>Harris English</strong> (No. 22), <strong>Justin Thomas</strong> (No. 23), <strong>Collin Morikawa</strong> (No. 31), <strong>Tyrrell Hatton </strong>(No. 32), <strong>Sepp Straka </strong>(No. 36), <strong>Shane Lowry</strong> (No. 39), <strong>Rasmus Hojgaard</strong> (No. 50) and <strong>Justin Rose</strong> (No. 53).</p>



<p><strong>Aaron Rai</strong> (T3) was one of odd men out from Luke Donald&rsquo;s Ryder Cup list; by beating everybody on that list at Wentworth, he sent a very clear message.</p>



<p><strong>Patrick Reed</strong> (T3) wasn&rsquo;t a serious part of this year&rsquo;s Ryder Cup picture, but given his Captain America past and his on-and-off play this was particularly fitting timing for a top result.</p>



<p><strong>Jackson Koivun</strong> (T4) is still a student-athlete at Auburn but his last four PGA Tour starts &mdash;&nbsp;T11-T6-T5-T4 &mdash;&nbsp;are absurd for any amateur. He&rsquo;s up to No. 42 in DataGolf&rsquo;s pro ranking, the only amateur inside the top 200. He&rsquo;s exempt into the next PGA Tour event, the Sanderson Farms. In a former, NIL-free world, he may rue the $900,000-plus in missed earnings. But in this era of college athletics it&rsquo;s safe to say that Koivun is being well-compensated as he lives his dream golf life.</p>



<p><strong>Maverick McNealy</strong> (T13) may have had the best resume of anybody not named to the U.S. team (besides that captain, of course) and while he didn&rsquo;t make a <em>loud</em> statement, another solid finish served as a reminder that he could just as easily be part of the crew headed to Bethpage.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-ryder-cup-watch">RYDER CUP WATCH</h3>

<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s crazy, when you work on some wrong stuff, it actually feels so wrong to do it right. So it<br />took me three, four weeks after Wyndham to start feeling comfortable, and it started clicking<br />the last week or two. It wasn&rsquo;t great this week but the rest of my game was, but I know the<br />foundation&rsquo;s set now.&rdquo;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-one-big-question">ONE BIG QUESTION</h3>



<p><em>What will <strong>Greg Norman&rsquo;s</strong> LIV legacy be?</em></p>



<p>We batted around this question <a href="https://golf.com/news/tour-confidential-ryder-cup-tiger-woods-liv-legacy/">in Tour Confidential on Sunday night</a> following Norman&rsquo;s Instagram reminder that his time with LIV Golf has officially come to a close. I know he&rsquo;s been in LIV&rsquo;s background for a while now but I still can&rsquo;t quite wrap my brain around the idea that Norman and LIV are just &mdash; done. In my mind LIV&nbsp;<em>is</em>&nbsp;Greg Norman. The league took on his personality; its players took the chip from his shoulder and put it on theirs. Again, I know this was announced and telegraphed long ago, the finality of a Norman-less LIV is very, very strange. The question, then: what will his LIV legacy be? </p>



<p>I don&rsquo;t think we have the full answer yet, because the league&rsquo;s legacy will double as his and it&rsquo;s a bit tough to say where we stand on LIV&rsquo;s legacy, too. But as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to make inroads in sports (latest entry: <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1967697981957706218">Tom Brady, flag football and what you can assume is a whole barrel of cash</a>) there&rsquo;s no question that Norman and LIV have been instrumental in paving the way.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-one-thing-to-watch">ONE THING TO WATCH</h3>



<p><em><strong>Tiger Woods</strong> swinging a golf club.</em></p>



<p>For the first time in my golf-media career a leaked video of <strong>Tiger Woods</strong> swinging a golf club was greeted with something slightly less than frothy enthusiasm by the collective internet. Perhaps this represents something in the way of maturity on the part of the golf audience, who are finally coming to terms with the idea that Woods will not be playing competitive golf forever. Perhaps we understand at last that he does have limits, that it&rsquo;s unrealistic to expect <em>anything</em> from him at this point. Still, it&rsquo;s worth letting yourself dream a <em>little</em> bit, perhaps of another run through the cut line at Augusta. Hope keeps us going, after all.</p>

<html><body><p class="first">As Scottie Scheffler finished off his sixth win of the season on Sunday at the Procore Championship &mdash; a tournament he entered <a href="https://golf.com/news/answering-6-ryder-cup-questions-1-week-out/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">to stay sharp for next week&rsquo;s Ryder Cup</a> &mdash; Lanto Griffin was overcome with emotions thinking about where he has been and what could have been. </p>



<p>Griffin, a 37-year-old pro, ruptured his L5-S1 disc in 2020 and had to undergo a microdiscectomy in 2022. Last season, Griffin had just one top 10 in 22 starts. He finished 158th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings but won PGA Tour Q-School to retain his full PGA Tour membership.</p>



<p>Griffin&rsquo;s 2025 season was rocky. He finished T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open and then missed four of his next six cuts.</p>



<p>&ldquo;Sometimes when you work hard and work on the wrong stuff you get worse, and that&rsquo;s kind of what happened,&rdquo; Griffin said on Sunday, after he shot 65 to finish solo third. &ldquo;My work ethic hasn&rsquo;t changed. I kind of went down the wrong path and it went backwards.&rdquo;</p>



<p>After withdrawing from the Corales Puntacana Championship, Griffin went back to his old coach, Todd Anderson, at TPC Sawgrass. He also started working with Alex Bennett, director of athletic performance. A T14 at the Barracuda and T23 at the season-ending Wyndham Championship put Griffin 142nd in the standings entering the FedEx Cup Fall and needing some magic to crack the top 100 to maintain his fully exempt status.</p>



<p>The California native opened with a seven-under 65 at the Procore Championship Thursday and followed with rounds of 70 and 71. He entered Sunday&rsquo;s final round six shots off the pace set by 54-hole leader Ben Griffin, but he birdied six of his first eight holes to make the turn in 30 and put himself in the mix to win his first tournament since the 2019 Houston Open. Griffin made two more birdies on the back to finish 17 under, <a href="https://golf.com/news/scottie-scheffler-ryder-cup-tiger-woods-procore/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">two shots behind the mark set by Scheffler.</a></p>



<p>Griffin&rsquo;s hot Sunday vaulted him to 98th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings, just inside the number to keep his card &hellip; at the moment.</p>



<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s huge,&rdquo; Griffin told NBC&rsquo;s Kira K. Dixon after the round. &ldquo;One of my goals this week was to give myself a shot [to get into the Baycurrent Classic]. Hopefully, I&rsquo;ll get in there now, and we have [six] tournaments left. Obviously, you want to win but keeping your job &hellip; I went to Q School last year and somehow won and extended the life [of my career]. This week, somehow, it all came together. Going to come up a little bit short. </p>



<p>&ldquo;Kind of wish Scottie wasn&rsquo;t here but I know all the fans enjoyed it. Just proud of myself. &hellip; Playing good golf is so much fun and playing bad golf is pretty brutal on your psyche. I&rsquo;ve put a lot of hard work in these last five weeks since Wyndham, so it&rsquo;s kind of nice to see it come together.&rdquo; </p>



<p>Scheffler and runner-up Ben Griffin, the only players to finish ahead of Lanto Griffin, were two of the 10 U.S. Ryder Cup players in the field, which added juice to a normally sleepy fall event. Although Lanto Griffin&rsquo;s emotional interview and his open acknowledgement that having Scheffler in the field highlights an issue the PGA Tour will eventually have to solve.</p>



<p>When new CEO Brian Rolapp spoke at the Tour Championship, he talked about the need for the PGA Tour <a href="https://golf.com/news/brian-rolapp-pga-tour-ceo-debut/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">to abide by his three guiding principles:</a> competitive parity, scarcity and simplicity. Rolapp comes from the NFL, and one thing the NFL does better than every other sports league is create narratives that are easy for fans to follow and become invested in. </p>



<p>With that as our guide, let&rsquo;s look at the FedEx Cup Fall slate, Lanto Griffin and what happened at the Procore Championship. </p>

<p>As it&rsquo;s currently constructed, the FedEx Cup Fall serves two purposes: it&rsquo;s a vehicle for players who finished outside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup to try to play their way into the first two Signature Events of the following season, and it shapes the membership of the Tour for the following season.</p>



<p>If Rolapp is looking for simplicity in his product, Sunday&rsquo;s affairs in Napa would have been much easier to digest and understand without Scheffler, Ben Griffin and the rest of Team USA in the field. The stakes would have been more clearly defined if those in the field were either playing to extend their careers or elevate their standing on Tour. Instead, the 2025 Procore was a mashup of the PGA Tour&rsquo;s longstanding status quo and the purgatorial state it has found itself in since reshaping on the fly following LIV Golf&rsquo;s arrival.</p>



<p>Rolapp, who hammered the <a href="https://golf.com/news/new-pga-tour-ceo-wont-read-this/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">importance of competing for and winning people&rsquo;s attention</a> in the doom-scrolling era, promised to make significant changes where they are needed. If he&rsquo;s looking to follow his old employer&rsquo;s model, cleaning up the FedEx Cup Fall slate to make it more easily digestible for the masses is a good place to head &mdash;&nbsp;after he finds a way to create a postseason model that all sports fans can understand and follow.</p>



<p>If the stakes of the FedEx Cup Fall were more clearly defined, the product would be elevated. It&rsquo;s easy for people to understand that Player X needs to win to keep his job and Player Y needs to do Z to become eligible for the marquee events. But things become muddy when you have X and Y happening while top players occasionally show up to play to collect a paycheck, make good on sponsorship deals or, in this case, prep for an event that the PGA Tour doesn&rsquo;t even own. </p>



<p>All of that leads to the question you don&rsquo;t want people asking: <em>What does this mean?</em> </p>



<p>Sunday&rsquo;s events in Napa could have been filled with high drama, as Griffin tried to get his second career win over the line while others trying to claw their way back up chased after him. Instead, we got a fun duel between Scheffler and Ben Griffin that ended with the World No. 1 taking home another trophy, talking about how prepared he feels for the Ryder Cup and being unwilling to commit to returning to Napa for his title defense. Which makes sense given that he normally doesn&rsquo;t play the event.</p>



<p>Rolapp has a lot on his plate as he looks under the hood and tries to polish and fine-tune the PGA Tour product with his three principles as his guiding light. But as he starts to deliver &ldquo;significant change,&rdquo; the events in wine country are a good example of how pro golf can make its product easier to understand and more attractive to both the die-hard golf fan and the casual sports fan: Clearly define the stakes, craft a narrative that&rsquo;s easy to follow and use the simplicity, scarcity and competitive parity of this part of the schedule to your advantage. </p>

<html><body><p class="first">Ben Griffin knew who was waiting for him. Scottie Scheffler, the undisputed World No. 1, had just shot 67 to grab the clubhouse lead at the <a href="https://golf.com/news/2025-procore-championship-purse-payout-breakdown/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Procore Championship</a> on Sunday. Griffin, the 54-hole leader, now needed to birdie the par-5 18th to force a playoff.</p>



<p>If you watched the action at Silverado Resort in Napa, California, on Sunday, you already know what happened.</p>



<p>Griffin hit his second shot on the green to 60 feet away, came up 6 feet short on his eagle putt and then rimmed out on the left lip with his birdie try. The three-putt par meant he shot 70, missed the playoff and finished in solo second behind Scheffler, <a href="https://golf.com/news/scottie-scheffler-ryder-cup-tiger-woods-procore/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">who won for the sixth time on the season</a>.</p>



<p>So, what happened?</p>



<p>&ldquo;I was trying to make eagle,&rdquo; Griffin said afterwards. &ldquo;Putt was just a little slower than I expected. I don&rsquo;t know if I hit my line on the last, but I looked up and it looked like it was breaking pretty good to the left and I tried to play it straighter to right center. It&rsquo;s tough late in the day. Again, I said it [Saturday], late in the day on poa annua greens you&rsquo;re just trying to put a good stroke on it and see what happens. I felt like just wasn&rsquo;t quite as sharp from short range as I needed to be.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Griffin finished 50th in Strokes Gained: Putting on Sunday, which came three days after he was second in the field in that same category in the first round.</p>



<p>He birdied the first three holes on Sunday but didn&rsquo;t make another until the 15th, and his round also included three other missed 5-footers &mdash;&nbsp;two he needed to save par and another for birdie.</p>



<p>&ldquo;Every time I finish second I feel like I&rsquo;ve learned something. I just really got to make more of those 5-, 6-footers on Sundays,&rdquo; Griffin said. &ldquo;Those are the ones that help you win the tournament. I had a couple on the front nine that I missed, and then I had a couple down the stretch that I missed from mid-range. I make a good amount. It&rsquo;s just a bummer, seems like it&rsquo;s a consistent thing.&rdquo;</p>



<p>For Scheffler, the sixth win of the year was his 19th of his career, and he now joins Tiger Woods as the only players since 1983 to win at least six times in multiple seasons.</p>



<p>&ldquo;He&rsquo;s a hell of a player, he&rsquo;s got the resume that&rsquo;s better than pretty much everyone here,&rdquo; Griffin said. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s just like every other player, everyone can beat everyone, you&rsquo;ve just got to play better.&rdquo;</p>



<p>Still, it&rsquo;d be foolish to say Griffin&rsquo;s week in Napa was an unfortunate one. His solo second earned him $654,000 and is the second runner-up finish of the season, complementing his pair of victories.</p>



<p>He&rsquo;s also about to play in his first <a href="https://golf.com/news/answering-6-ryder-cup-questions-1-week-out/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ryder Cup</a>, and now he knows what he needs to sharpen up as he preps for Bethpage Black in two weeks. So is he dwelling on Sunday&rsquo;s short-putt woes?</p>



<p>Hardly.</p>



<p>&ldquo;S&mdash; happens,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ll bounce back.&rdquo;</p>

<p><strong>The Ryder Cup is two weeks away, but 21 of the 24 players competing in it were playing over the weekend at the <a href="https://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/2025/procore-championship/R2025464/leaderboard">Procore Championship</a> in Napa and the <a href="https://golf.com/news/ryder-cup-twist-snub-alex-noren-wins-bwm-pga/">BMW PGA</a> in England. From everything you read, heard and saw, what was your biggest takeaway from Ryder Cup training camp?</strong></p>



<p><strong>Zephyr Melton, associate game-improvement editor (@zephyrmelton): </strong>Lots of Ryder Cuppers had their names on the first couple pages of the two leaderboards (Ben Griffin, Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Tyrrell Hatton, Viktor Hovland). Nice to see a bunch of them in fine form heading to Bethpage. Should make for some high-level golf in a couple of weeks.</p>



<p><strong>Alan Bastable, executive editor (@alan_bastable): </strong>I should hope they&rsquo;re well-repped on the first two pages, especially at the Procore! No disrespect to the rest of the field but this is the kind of week in which the alphas should be throwing their weight around. I&rsquo;ve been taken by the praise the U.S. players have been heaping upon Keegan Bradley, in terms of how he&rsquo;s been communicating with his squad and keeping them on task; he seems to be pressing all the right buttons. We&rsquo;ll see if that continues in the heat of battle.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Dylan Dethier, senior writer (@dylan_dethier)</strong>: My biggest takeaway is that golf is hilarious; immediately after Europe selects its Ryder Cup team (and names him vice captain) Alex Noren wins two of his next three starts?! Including this week, where he beats the entire European team? You probably wouldn&rsquo;t see an offensive coordinator beating out the QBs in a preseason game &mdash;&nbsp;but here we are. Also, both teams have now had ample time to bond and prep before Bethpage; there will be fingers pointed post-Ryder Cup but &ldquo;carelessness&rdquo; won&rsquo;t be a valid accusation on either side.</p>

<p><strong>Whose Ryder Cup stock went up or down, both individually and as a team?</strong></p>



<p><strong>Melton: </strong>I&rsquo;m not sure if you can put <em>too</em> much stock into one tournament, but if I had to pick I&rsquo;d go with Team USA. Prior to Rome the Americans didn&rsquo;t get many competitive reps, and it doomed them at Marco Simone. Their little &ldquo;training camp&rdquo; in Napa should serve them well in terms of keeping the competitive juices flowing.</p>



<p><strong>Bastable:</strong> If there were any lingering questions about Ben Griffin, he answered them in Napa. On the flip side, Justin Thomas&rsquo;s week might give Captain Bradley pause. JT made the cut by only one and closed with a rocky 75 that included two double bogeys. Not exactly the Ryder Cup springboard for which he would have been looking. On the Euro side, Matt Fitzpatrick, who finished T5 at Wentworth, is continuing to exhibit excellent form; I think he&rsquo;ll be a problem for the Americans. And how &rsquo;bout P-Reed&rsquo;s T3! He won&rsquo;t be at Bethpage, but you can&rsquo;t help but think Capt. America wasn&rsquo;t playing with a little extra burn this week.</p>



<p><strong>Dethier</strong>: Scottie Scheffler&rsquo;s stock somehow keeps rising; this latest win felt like further proof that he makes golf simpler than the rest of the world. Other upward arrows? Ryder Cup rookies Ben Griffin, J.J. Spaun, and Cameron Young, who each finished in the top 10. On the flip side, Justin Thomas had an uncharacteristically poor week with his irons and his putter, which isn&rsquo;t ideal (though also could easily not matter?) heading to the Ryder Cup. For the Euros I&rsquo;m particularly excited by the idea of both Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg heading to Bethpage in good form &mdash;&nbsp;they were a blast to watch last time around. Just not to play against&hellip;</p>

<p><strong>Did the last week change your opinion on the Ryder Cup outcome two weeks from now?</strong></p>



<p><strong>Melton: </strong>Not even a little bit.</p>



<p><strong>Bastable:</strong> Right. At this point, nothing short of Scottie Scheffler getting the shanks can change my opinion of how the week is going to unfold: tense slug fest until final singles match.</p>



<p><strong>Dethier</strong>: Nah, whether it&rsquo;s a sleepy week in wine country or one of the DP World Tour&rsquo;s biggest events, it just doesn&rsquo;t compare to what&rsquo;ll await at Bethpage. The only thing that made me think twice: Ben Griffin&rsquo;s missed putt on 18. Whether that was good experience putting under the gun or a sign of sketchiness to come? That remains to be seen.</p>



<p><strong>Greg Norman officially announced his departure from LIV Golf, bringing an end to a four-year relationship (three as CEO) in which Norman helped the breakaway league come to life. What will Norman&rsquo;s LIV legacy be?</strong></p>



<p><strong>Melton: </strong>He&rsquo;ll be known for his steadfast commitment to getting the league off the ground. Was he the best CEO? Probably not. But he did an admirable job shepherding the league through its infancy, which counts for something.</p>



<p><strong>Bastable: </strong>LIV didn&rsquo;t only need billions of dollars to get off the ground &mdash; it also needed a brand-name pitchman to bring credibility to the league and sell the vision. When Jack and Tiger passed, Norman answered the bell. He never felt like a long-term solution for commish or CEO, but he deserves much credit for helping bring across the finish line many of LIV&rsquo;s first wave of signees.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Dethier</strong>: I know he&rsquo;s been in the background for a while now but I still can&rsquo;t quite wrap my brain around the idea that Norman and LIV are just &mdash; done. In my mind LIV <em>is</em> Greg Norman. The league took on his personality; its players took the chip from his shoulder and put it on theirs. Again, I know this has been in the works for a very long time, but the idea of a Norman-less LIV is very, very strange. The league&rsquo;s legacy will double as his. It&rsquo;s not clear when that&rsquo;ll be cemented.</p>



<p><strong>Tiger Woods <a href="https://golf.com/news/tiger-woods-public-range-session-sparks-questions">was spotted</a> hitting balls during an appearance for his Nexus Cup, although Woods still hasn&rsquo;t played a tournament since the 2024 Open Championship. Coming off his latest surgeries, what&rsquo;s a realistic goal for events for Woods to play in the next year?</strong></p>



<p><strong>Melton: </strong>If he can tee it up in all four majors, I&rsquo;d say that&rsquo;s a huge win. I hate to say it, but Tiger is more of a ceremonial golfer than an actual competitor at this stage. His body is just too banged up for much else.</p>



<p><strong>Bastable: </strong>All four majors? I think Melton means all <em>nine</em> majors: four on the regular tour and another five on the Champions circuit! (Lest you&rsquo;ve forgotten, Tiger turns 50 on Dec. 30). Maybe that&rsquo;s an aggressive schedule, but I&rsquo;m hopeful TW embraces the cart-friendly senior tour. Regardless, in whatever capacity we get to see Woods striking balls in 2026 &mdash; at the Masters, in a dome, at the U.S. Senior Open at old-timey Scioto &mdash; it&rsquo;s a win.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Dethier</strong>: Can&rsquo;t believe you guys are ignoring Tiger&rsquo;s upcoming TGL season. If you think about it, that way we could see TW on three different tours &mdash; though it&rsquo;s also possible we&rsquo;ll see him in none. I bet we see Tiger at the Masters, though, and hopefully before then. It&rsquo;ll be fun when we do.</p>



<p><strong>John Daly <a href="https://golf.com/news/john-daly-19-history-blowup-holes/">made headlines</a> in the most John Daly way ever, blowing up for a 19 on one hole in a Champions Tour event. What&rsquo;s your personal worst on-course blowup (or one you spotted in person)?</strong></p>



<p><strong>Melton: </strong>I once saw a kid in high school golf tryouts make a 17 on a hole, only to follow it up with a birdie on the following par-3. Not sure many folks have witnessed a 17-2 stretch like that. Hell of a bounce back.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Bastable:</strong> Hate to be a buzzkill but I pride myself on octuple-bogey avoidance.</p>



<p><strong>Dethier</strong>: I made an 11 at the state championship in high school; I got stuck in the woods, Daly-style. But I was really blown away by the stats behind this latest double-digit Daly moment &mdash;&nbsp;turns out this is at least the 16th score of 10 or higher he&rsquo;s recorded in PGA Tour-sanctioned competition. Nobody does it quite like JD. (As for Zephyr&rsquo;s high-school teammate? He should know that Daly went 18-2 at Bay Hill. Life is all about how you respond.)</p>

<html><body><p class="first">World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler spent the early week in Napa, Calif., at the Procore Championship getting in as much <a href="https://golf.com/news/u-s-ryder-cup-training-camp-win-downside/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ryder Cup prep</a> &mdash; both on and off the course &mdash; as possible before the showdown with Team Europe at Bethpage Black in two weeks. </p>



<p>Then came the tournament, the first of the PGA Tour&rsquo;s FedEx Cup Fall slate, and Scheffler did what he has done all year, be it at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson or the Open Championship: He slowly rose up the leaderboard and eventually finished as the last man standing with a trophy in hand. </p>



<p>Scheffler&rsquo;s time at <a href="https://coursefinder.golf.com/course-profile/3389-Silverado-(North)/#lat=38.3486798,long=-122.2646984,4.00z" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Silverado Resort </a>started out rocky as he worked to get the speed of the greens down. But a Saturday 64 vaulted him to within two shots of Ben Griffin. On Sunday, Scheffler made six birdies during a final-round 67 to finish at 19 under par and top Griffin by one after his Ryder Cup teammate missed a five-foot birdie putt to tie on the last hole. </p>



<p>The win was Scheffler&rsquo;s sixth of the season, which, according to Justin Ray, makes him the fourth player since 1960 to win six or more times in consecutive seasons on the PGA Tour. The other three? Tiger Woods (three times), Jack Nicklaus (1972-73) and Arnold Palmer (three times). </p>



<p>Scheffler&rsquo;s win in wine country was a cherry on top of a week that was all about the event that looms on the horizon. After <a href="https://golf.com/news/us-ryder-cup-changes-procore/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Team USA suffered from competitive rust</a> (among other things) in its 2023 loss in Rome, Scheffler feels the <a href="https://golf.com/news/at-ryder-cup-training-camp-question/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ryder Cup training camp</a> in Napa did its job. </p>



<p>&ldquo;I always focus as much as I can on my preparation going into tournaments, that&rsquo;s what gives me confidence, and I feel like I&rsquo;m as prepared as possible for the Ryder Cup,&rdquo; Scheffler said after his win on Sunday. &ldquo;I think we&rsquo;re all excited for the tournament to get started. We&rsquo;ve got three days in New York to compete and have fun. We&rsquo;re all looking forward to it.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Team USA&rsquo;s Ryder Cup training camp appeared to be a success. Scheffler and Griffin duked it out on Sunday, with J.J. Spaun and Cameron Young each carding top-10 finishes. Russell Henley started off strong but slipped over the weekend, while Justin Thomas, Harris English, and Collin Morikawa were not competitive in Napa. </p>



<p>While Scheffler&rsquo;s win will get the headlines from Team USA&rsquo;s Ryder Cup prep week, two of his teammates were the shining stars before his weekend run. </p>



<p>The first was Griffin. A Ryder Cup rookie who won the Charles Schwab Challenge and team event Zurich Classic this season, Griffin continued his blistering hot play in Napa, showing no rust from a few weeks off post-FedEx Cup Playoffs. None of this surprises Scheffler, who has known Griffin since their days as junior golfers. </p>



<p>&ldquo;When you talk to Ben, he&rsquo;s a guy that has a lot of confidence, he&rsquo;s got a lot of self-belief,&rdquo; Scheffler said. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s what we love about him being a part of our Ryder Cup team.</p>



<p>&ldquo;Ben&rsquo;s a guy that has always put in a ton of work and he&rsquo;s always looking to improve. He&rsquo;s never lacked confidence, and he&rsquo;s going to be a great part of our Ryder Cup team this year, and I&rsquo;m sure he&rsquo;ll be a part of many teams going forward as well.&rdquo; </p>



<p>As Griffin and Scheffler showed they were ready on the course, a member of Team USA who was not allowed to tee it up at Silverado Resort continued to show why he could end up being <a href="https://golf.com/news/bryson-dechambeau-ryder-cup-weapon/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bradley&rsquo;s greatest weapon</a>. </p>



<p>Bryson DeChambeau was present for all of Team USA&rsquo;s team-building activities in Napa. While he couldn&rsquo;t play since he is not a member of the PGA Tour, DeChambeau continues to impress his teammates with his buy-in and team-first attitude. </p>



<p>&ldquo;Not just this week, he&rsquo;s made efforts to come out to other meetings and other dinners as well,&rdquo; Collin Morikawa said of DeChambeau on Wednesday. &ldquo;It shows that he just cares. I think this whole individual aspect, we&rsquo;ve all thrown that out the window and we will all do what it takes to be with the team.&rdquo;</p>



<p>Bradley has been effusive in his praise of DeChambeau over the past few months and continued to laud the LIV Golf star for being all about winning the Ryder Cup back at Bethpage Black, regardless of his place in pro golf&rsquo;s ongoing civil conflict. </p>



<p>&ldquo;In the golf world right now, we&rsquo;re in an awkward spot with where we sit in the golf world,&rdquo; Bradley said on Wednesday. &ldquo;A lot of that responsibility has fallen on Bryson. He has to make a much bigger effort than a lot of the guys. Bryson was there last night. He&rsquo;s been incredible. He&rsquo;s been more than willing to go above and beyond for this team. I think it&rsquo;s a testament to what a good teammate Bryson is. I think it&rsquo;s actually really cool to see, for the guys to see &mdash; it&rsquo;s easy for the guys to come play here and come to dinner. Bryson&rsquo;s got to get on a plane, he&rsquo;s got to come to these meetings, and I think it&rsquo;s a great thing, shows the commitment in that Bryson has for the team. He&rsquo;s going to be a huge asset for us. </p>



<p>&ldquo;Obviously, from the standpoint of how good a player he is, but also he&rsquo;s fun to be around, he&rsquo;s great to the younger guys. It&rsquo;s fun for us to see Bryson in an atmosphere outside the golf course as well.&rdquo;</p>



<p>Bradley didn&rsquo;t stick around to see Sunday&rsquo;s finale. He didn&rsquo;t need to. He, like everyone else, has seen Scheffler suffocate golf tournaments for the past few years. </p>



<p>He just hopes World No. 1 can do it again in two weeks at Bethpage Black. </p>

<html><body><p class="first">Stop me if you&rsquo;ve heard this one before, but <a href="https://golf.com/gear/how-taylormade-signed-scottie-scheffler/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Scottie Scheffler</a> has won again on the PGA Tour. On Sunday, Scheffler tracked down Ben Griffin to win the<a href="https://golf.com/news/2025-procore-championship-purse-payout-breakdown/"> Procore Championship</a>, his sixth victory of the season.</p>



<p>The win marks No. 13 for Scheffler&rsquo;s <a href="https://golf.com/gear/putters/scottie-schefflers-putter-wins-again-heres-how-to-get-one/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TaylorMade Spider Tour X L-Neck putte</a>r that he switched to last year. Just this season, <a href="https://golf.com/gear/putters/2025-pga-tour-5-winningest-putters/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">players using a Spider putter have won 14 times</a> on Tour, nine of those coming from Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. The last three events on the PGA Tour have been won by a Spider putter, dating back to Scheffler&rsquo;s win at the BMW Championship. Tommy Fleetwood won the Tour Championship with a Spider putter as well. </p>

<p>Scheffler changes very little in his bag from week to week. The decision between a Srixon ZU85 3-iron and TaylorMade Qi35 7-wood is the only course-dependent club change he makes on a weekly basis. Scheffler went with the 3-iron this week, marking his fourth win with that club this season and two victories <a href="https://golf.com/gear/fairway-woods/how-scottie-scheffler-landed-7-wood-fully-equipped/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">with the 7-wood.</a></p>

<html><body><p class="first">The 2025 Procore Championship, the first tournament of the PGA Tour&rsquo;s FedEx Cup Fall season, <a href="https://golf.com/news/u-s-ryder-cup-training-camp-win-downside/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">has been <em>all about the Ryder Cup</em></a><em>. </em></p>



<p>Ten of Team USA&rsquo;s 12 members teed it up this week at <a href="https://coursefinder.golf.com/course-profile/3389-Silverado-(North)/#lat=38.3486798,long=-122.2646984,4.00z" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Silverado Resort</a> as captain Keegan Bradley looks to have his time sharp for their showdown with the Europeans at Bethpage Black. But the Ryder Cup talk somewhat faded into the background as the tournament kicked off. </p>



<p>Some members of Team USA &mdash; Ben Griffin, Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun and Cameron Young &mdash; acquitted themselves well. Others like Justin Thomas, Harris English and Collin Morikawa didn&rsquo;t have their best stuff in Napa. The weekend proceedings saw Griffin grab the 54-hole lead while Scheffler fired a Saturday 64 to get within two. Sandwiched in between the two Ryder Cuppers was <a href="https://golf.com/news/jackson-koivun-ryder-cup-procore/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">World No. 1 amateur Jackson Koivun</a>, who just helped lead Team USA to a dominant Walker Cup win over GB&amp;I at Cypress Point. </p>



<p>But while Koivun was the story entering Sunday, it was Scheffler who once again won the day. The World No. 1 went out in 3-under 32 and then birdied No. 10 before dropping a shot at the 11th. Scheffler bounced back with a birdie at 12 and then another at 15 to grab the lead by one over Griffin. </p>



<p>Scheffler arrived at the par-5 18th still holding a one-shot lead over Griffin. Scheffler hit his tee shot into the fairway bunker and was forced to lay up. He hit his third to 16 feet but missed the birdie putt, leaving the door open for Griffin to either win with an eagle or force a playoff with a birdie. Griffin hit the green in two but left his eagle putt five feet short. Griffin sized up his playoff-forcing birdie putt and sent it toward the hole, but the ball hit the left edge of the cup and lipped out, giving Scheffler his sixth win of the season. </p>

The Auburn Tiger will be looking to make a little history in Napa as he tries to become the second amateur to win on Tour in the last two years.</p>



<p>Another shot back sits the top-ranked <em>professional</em> in the world in Scottie Scheffler, who is seeking his seventh victory of 2025. With the win, Scheffler would own 19 Tour victories, with each of them coming over the past three years.</p>

<p>Ben Griffin&rsquo;s breakout 2025 campaign has been one of the biggest stories on the PGA Tour this year &mdash; and in Napa, he&rsquo;s looking to add another chapter. Through three rounds at the Procore, Griffin holds a one-shot lead as he seeks his third victory of the calendar year. If he hopes to add another trophy to his mantle, though, he&rsquo;ll have to hold off two of the hottest names in the sport.</p>



<p>Jackson Koivun, an amateur who plays collegiately for Auburn University, sits just a single shot back through three rounds as he seeks to become the second amateur to win on Tour in the last two years, joining Nick Dunlap, who accomplished the feat at the American Express in 2024. Another shot back of the hot-shot amateur is the top-ranked golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, who is looking to earn his sixth win of 2025 and 19th overall. </p>
