Odyssey is making a major push in the premium putter space.

After gaining traction on Tour over the past several months, Odyssey is releasing the first models of its Damascus Milled putter lineup in a limited drop in the No. 7 shape. The putters feature Damascus Steel inserts and sole plates, with each one having a unique pattern.

“Damascus Steel is a beautiful material, and the patterns tell the story, because every one is different,” Odyssey General Manager Jacob Davidson said in a release. “But what stands out is that, as beautiful as these putters are, the feedback from Tour has been the exceptional feel of these putters. We wanted to deliver the most premium performance-driven putter we’ve ever done at Odyssey. When you look at this product, we have so much confidence because there is not one thing we’d do different. On this one, we really took our time over the last couple years to try to perfect the design.”

Damascus Milled putters have already been used by numerous players on the PGA Tour since their introduction at the Cognizant Classic.

The first extremely limited drop of Damascus Milled putters will feature the popular No. 7 shape in both single-bend and crank hosel configurations.

Looks good, putts better

Damascus steel is known throughout the high-end boutique putter world for offering a unique pattern in every piece, as well as a remarkably soft, yet responsive feel. The material is created by layering 61 sheets of two different types of steel, one softer and the other firmer, before it’s rolled, pressed, cut and then twisted to create the one-of-a-kind patterns.

The back of the insert is then engineered with Ai-countours to promote consistent ball speeds across the milled face. So not only do these putters offer a premium and unique look, but they also perform up to the expectations of Tour pros.

“One of the big pieces of feedback that we’ve gotten from Tour time and time again is that a milled putter needs to be loud, it needs to feel firm enough, it needs to be solid enough,” Odyssey putter R&D director Eric Stubben said. “We wanted to create something a touch firmer and a touch louder, and as we look back at things we’d done in the past, Damascus kept coming up as something that is premium and a little on the firmer side.”

While Odyssey is known as an insert company, almost all of their releases, including the recent Ai-One Milled lines, have inserts going for a softer feel. This release offers something different.

Not only does the insert feature the high-end material, but also the sole plates, ensuring that no two putters in the drop look alike.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Odyssey jump into the Damascus material space, but it might be the most premium-looking attempt and it seems like it won’t be the last.

We’ve seen more models of the Damascus Milled line out on the PGA Tour, and Odyssey is wording this release of the two No. 7 models as the first of “limited drops,” implying that more are on the way.

My take: Odyssey is making a premium push

Gone are the days when Odyssey putters were simply your cheapest option.

Lately, the company has seemed willing to take risks in the name of innovation to shed the stereotype of just being the easiest putter you can find. They’ve always been at the forefront of innovation and ranked high in market usage, but oftentimes, their price points could give the illusion that their putters weren’t necessarily premium.

While the Tri-Hot releases showed they can innovate with the best putters on the market, this Damascus release does something different.

In a world of custom-milled Scotty Camerons, Bettinardis, Ping PLDs and more one-off designers like Logan Olson and Tyson Lamb, Odyssey is showing they can compete in that space too, of creating pieces of art for the greens.

They’re also showing they can do it with the huge R&D arm of one of the biggest golf companies in the world.

To me, Odyssey’s Damascus Milled line signals a shift for the brand and the market as a whole toward a premium focus. This is certainly something consumers ask for, but at a nearly $700 price point, it will be worth watching if Odyssey’s consumer base actually buys.

Overall, these are going to be highly sought-after putters, so if you have the opportunity to buy one, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Odyssey’s new Odyssey Damascus Milled No. 7 CH and SB are available for pre-order starting April 28 and will arrive at retail locations on May 5.

Each putter will cost $699.

The putters will come with an SL90 shaft and a new Rubber Tour Pistol grip designed with Golf Pride. It also comes with an A-2 panel, quilted headcover crafted from premium materials and sherpa leather.

Odyssey’s latest putters are the first mallets in the low-torque putter category to have both no shaft lean and heel shafted.

The company is building off its successful S2S Tri-Hot platform, launched last fall, with the same three shapes — Jailbird, No. 7 and Rossie — in a new SB (single-bend) configuration that the company still calls “zero-torque.”

“If you ask a consumer, ‘Do you prefer a center-shafted putter or a heel-shafted putter?’ the answer is always, ‘I’d love a heel-shafted putter,’” Odyssey VP of product strategy Jacob Davidson told GOLF. “They want their alignment line back. They want something that looks familiar. But they also see the benefit of returning the face to square.”

Building off the extremely forward CG of the S2S Tri-Hot putters — which use 140g of tungsten to push mass forward and allow the head to balance toe-up with minimal onset — the new S2S Tri-Hot SB models add a high single-bend shaft. That shaft design places the shaft axis directly through the putter’s center of gravity.

At address, they look far more traditional than most other options in the low-torque putter category.

Max Greyserman has been using various models in the S2S Tri-Hot SB line since the American Express at the start of the PGA Tour season, most recently a Jailbird Cruiser.

They also feature all the same technology as the original S2S Tri-Hot line with the Ai-Dual insert, up to 140g of tungsten to push CG forward, FRD groove design, new pistol-plus grip and a black SL120 shaft.

Moving ‘zero-torque’ forward and heel-ward

The S2S Tri-Hot removed one of the barriers to entry for the low-torque putter category with the significantly reduced onset, allowing the putter to look more like a traditional center-shafted putter at address.

As has been the trend in recent months, Odyssey has now figured out its own method of maintaining low-torque properties by placing the shaft in a traditional heel position.

To do this, the Tri-Hot SBs use a unique high single-bend shaft that bends at a specific point, allowing the shaft axis to pass through the putter’s CG.

Davidson said a couple of different hosels were experimented with, including a modified crank hosel, but none looked as traditional as the single-bend shaft.

“People don’t want new hosels,” he said. “They don’t want something that adds a different angle. They’re used to a single bend or a double bend. This was just the cleanest, most normal-looking way to bring it to market.”

With the shaft now in the heel, the putters’ sightlines are completely unobstructed, allowing players to utilize the sightlines without issue.

The Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB lineup

There are three shapes in the S2S Tri-Hot SB lineup: Jailbird, No. 7 and Rossie. The No. 7 is available in a 38″ Cruiser configuration.

Jailbird

What is it: Odyssey’s high-MOI mallet with maximum stability thanks to a unique rear-window design. The jailbird also has a unique Versa alignment aid paint scheme with perpendicular color blocking.

Who it’s for: Players seeking maximum forgiveness in a low-torque putter that looks like a traditional putter.

No. 7

What is it: Odyssey’s popular fang-style mallet with long parallel alignment aids. The No. 7 is also available in a 38″ cruiser build with a heavier head, shaft and grip.

Who it’s for: Players seeking maximum alignment aids in a low-torque putter that offers an unobstructed visual thanks to the SB configuration.

Rossie

What is it: A compact half-moon style mid-mallet.

Who it’s for: Players seeking the most blade-like mallet in a low-torque putter, but with more forgiveness and more natural release.

My take: ‘zero-torque’ is evolving

Until last summer, we only knew low-torque putters as being center-shafted. Now that’s certainly no longer the case.

It’s interesting to think about that while putter technology has been evolving for decades upon decades; low-torque putters are just an innovation of the last few years. Companies have only begun to explore what’s possible and what shapes they can make.

Given many golfers’ aversion to center-shafted putters, it was only natural that the first place the market was going to go was trying to make putters look as traditional as possible. As Davidson explains, these accomplish that quite well. He says people have been shocked by the design when trying it in his office the last few months.

“They’ll pick it up, start hitting putts, and then go, ‘Wait a second — is this zero-torque?'” Davidson said. “Because it looks like a traditional putter, but once you swing it, you can feel the difference in the torque profile.”

As I’ve moved through a few different low-torque putters over the past year, I’ve found that while the configuration matches my pendulum stroke, I struggle with trying to feel the release and I block putts.

In testing with the Rossie, my preferred shape of the three, I don’t find that so much to be the case. None of these putters are truly “zero-torque,” which is why GOLF uses the term “low-torque” instead, and I noticed these putters don’t spin in your hand as easily as some others.

Does that mean they have a touch more torque that helps me release it? Potentially.

What is for sure is that these putters look just like any other putter out there, which means the barriers to entry for the category have never been lower.

Odyssey’s new S2S Tri-Hot SB putters are available for pre-order starting April 16 and will arrive at retail locations on April 24.

Each standard-length putter (33″, 34″, 35″) costs $599, while the No. 7 Cruiser (38″) is priced at $649.

Standard lie will be 70˚ on all models, and the standard build heads will be 365 grams, and the Cruiser is 385 grams and comes with the SL140 shaft instead of the SL120. Only the Jailbird model will be available in a left-handed option.

How did Akshay Bhatia win the Arnold Palmer Invitational despite losing strokes off the tee and on approach in the final round? He out-putted everyone.

Bhatia was dialed from close range this week, leading the field at Bay Hill in both Strokes Gained: Around the Green and Putting as he earned his third PGA Tour victory in a playoff over Daniel Berger. But it was his putting that really set him apart, as he gained 10.6 shots on the greens — 3.5 strokes more than anyone else.

Nearly half of his 2.7 strokes from the final round were picked up on the 11th hole, where he drained a massive 58-foot birdie in the midst of four straight to start the back nine.

Since the end of 2023, Bhatia has been one of the most prominent users of a broomstick-style putter (and has ignited the internet with a host of false accusations that he anchors the 50-inch-long Odyssey Jailbird DB broomstick to his chest during his putting stroke).

Bhatia has mostly stuck to this same Jailbird look and shaft orientation since switching to the method at the end of his rookie season in 2023. He briefly used Odyssey’s newer Ai-Dual Jailbird broomstick with a new 1/2 Ball alignment aid and Ai-Dual insert but went back to his gamer earlier this season.

His gamer features a soft Microhinge insert and has 3 degrees of loft.

The improvement since the switch has been rather incredible. Bhatia was near the bottom in Strokes Gained: Putting in 2023, ranking 183rd as he made the switch toward the end of the season. He immediately jumped to 33rd in 2024 and 35th in 2025, his first two seasons with the broom. So far this season, he’s 12th on the PGA Tour in the category.

Welcome to Fully Equipped’s weekly Tour equipment report. Each Friday of PGA Tour weeks (plus other times, if news warrants), GOLF equipment editor Jack Hirsh will run you through some of the biggest news surrounding golf clubs on Tour, including changes, tweaks and launches.

Callaway’s Quantum Mini driver and Ti fairway wood weren’t the company’s only prototype heads to make noise on the PGA Tour this week.

While the presumed next iterations of Callaway’s mini driver and titanium fairway woods surfaced on Tour, it was the Quantum TD-TD driver head that actually went in play, getting conversions from both Min Woo Lee and Kevin Yu.

Lee raised eyebrows last year when the long-hitting Aussie switched into the Elyte Triple Diamond Tour Draw head and immediately saw an uptick in driving accuracy, finishing tied for first in the category at the FedEx Open de France. This year, in two starts, his driving accuracy percentage is six points higher than in 2025.

He loved the smaller profile of the Triple Diamond TD head, and the reduced face progression (more offset) helped him get a more neutral start line than the standard Triple Diamond, making it easier for him to hit his favored pull cut off the tee.

But he still didn’t feel like he had his “bomb it” swing and was living at the higher end of spin windows, between 2,400 and 3,000 RPMs, according to Callaway Tour Rep Kellen Watson.

But in testing the new Quantum TD-TD — which hit the USGA conforming list last fall with some of the other Quantum heads — this week, Watson and Lee found a shaft change from the OG Fujikura Ventus Blue 7-X to the new Ventus Black 7-X with VeloCore+ not only brought that high spin threshold down about 300 rpms, but also tightened his delta to 2,300 to 2,700.

“Shape suited his eye very well and all the numbers were similar, but mainly the ‘all-out’ drive had a much better start line, spin rate and down-range pattern. Allowing Min to take full advantage of his length is a huge boost for his chances every week.” Watson told GOLF. “About 12 shots on the range and nine holes of practice on a very windy day at Pebble were enough to get his stamp of approval.”

Lee gained .648 strokes off the tee in Round 1 at Spyglass Hill in a round of 67 and had hit 19 of his first 25 fairways as he finished up his second round on Friday.

Meanwhile, Yu, who prefers a push draw to Lee’s fade, also found success with the Quantum TD-TD. Yu previously played the Elyte Triple Diamond Max and the Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond Max.

But the new Quantum Triple Diamond Max is a little different than the previous iterations, Watson said.

“He was trying to change swing mechanics to compensate for the small differences,” Watson explained. “In the load of testing we had done with all of our staff, we were quick to find out that the TD-TD was a great option for previous TD Max users who wanted to work the ball both ways.”

Thanks to the more neutral start line, Yu actually found he could work in a slight fade to his arsenal, a valuable weapon around a tight track like Pebble Beach.

“In the grand scheme of things, the footprint difference between the TD-TD and TD Max is minute,” Watson said. “Kevin didn’t have any apprehension between the two shapes, especially after the first few shots with TD-TD. Ball speed, spin rates and launch dynamics were unchanged after the previous models, allowing Kevin to seamlessly transition with a new shot shape to take advantage of.”

Yu hit 11 of 14 fairways at Pebble Beach in Round 1 and gained nearly .8 strokes off the tee.

Overall, it was a big week for Quantum as Lee’s switch meant eight of the 10 Callaway staffers in the field — and 10 percent of the field — were playing a Quantum driver at Pebble.

Lee adds a versatile weapon

For someone who has 170 mph ball speed with a 2-iron, Pebble Beach would seem like an obvious track to gear back with iron off the tee, but Lee actually took the club he once called his “secret weapon” out of the bag this week.

Last week at the WM Phoenix Open, Lee added a new 21 degree Apex Utility Wood to the bag and he’s kept this week despite the windy conditions at Pebble Beach.

“The problem in the past for me is I spun the hybrid way too much,” Lee told Callaway’s Johnny Thompson. “This one keeps the spin down, which is nice, but it still has the height, which is what you want into par-5s and into tee shots.”

The club could actually be a more long-term replacement for Lee as Watson said the club was the best option at three windows: a stinger, stock and high ball. The stinger had the same ball speed and carry that Lee gets with his utility iron, but he also got the best landing angle when he tried to hit a high ball.

Three major Odyssey swaps

In more Callaway news, in what was otherwise a quiet week with a smaller field and a huge purse at stake, Lee wasn’t done with gear changes, making a swap at putter, too.

He had been using a prototype black and white Odyssey S2S Jailbird, but this week, he’s switched to a new Odyssey prototype putter.

From photos, we can tell the putter has four movable weights on the sole, presumably to dial in CG. Odyssey’s Cody Hale said Lee was seeking a change to something that better matches his in-to-out stroke path and had a touch more face rotation.

Sepp Straka moved away from his Odyssey Stroke Lab Tuttle for a similar reason, picking up a White Hot OG Rossie with a slant neck to add some face rotation, too.

Meanwhile, Keegan Bradley also moved into an Ai-Dual 1/2 Ball Jailbird Cruiser that matched the specs of his previous Ai-One Jailbird Cruiser, but with three dots milled into the 1/2 ball.

Odyssey has always been a leader in alignment technology, going back more than 20 years with their first 2-ball putter.

Now the company is adding another option to their lineup with the new 1/2 Ball alignment aid in the Ai-Dual putter line.

“When you look down at address, you want something that is just so smooth to where you don’t see any break,” Callaway VP of Product Strategy Jacob Davidson told GOLF. “The half ball on the putter, and the actual ball — they just all blend together. That unlocks this tension and freedom where everything just aligns so perfectly, and subconsciously, your brain just lets go.”

The new Ai-Dual line sports the company’s Ai-Dual insert, first used in the S2S Tri-Hot line, and has six traditional models and four Square 2 Square models. Six of the new putters are available with the new 1/2 Ball alignment aid

What’s actually new with Odyssey Ai-Dual putters — and why you should care

Tech that doesn’t need explaining

The 2-ball alignment aid has been a part of the Odyssey line for years, and it’s shown how much better people aim with the ball framed and centered in the middle of the putter face. The one drawback, Davidson admitted, is that it can get a little busy for some.

For the new Ai-Dual lineup, Odyssey engineers set out to create a new system that was simple and accomplished the same thing as 2-ball. That’s where the new 1/2 Ball comes in.

“Once you see it, you can’t unsee it,” Davidson said. “You don’t have to explain it to the consumer. The light bulb moment comes on.”

That happened when Akshay Bhatia became the first player to use the new alignment aid on the PGA Tour when he switched to an Ai-Dual Jailbird 1/2 Ball Cruiser Broomstick at the Procore Championship last fall.

“They went out and played a practice round on Wednesday and he had his coach and his caddie watch him line up every putt, and just the alignment based on start line of where he was looking was just drastically different,” Davidson said. “He loved the forward roll, the insert, the feel of the insert, but the alignment technology was the big thing.”

And while the tech doesn’t need explaining, Callaway worked with two college professors at Baylor and Clemson to prove how well the alignment aid worked. With over 1,000 putts struck by 52 testers, players made more than 10 percent more putts from six feet with the 1/2 Ball alignment aid.

Same insert, bigger stage

The namesake Ai-Dual insert is actually making its second appearance in an Odyssey putter. It was first released in the S2S Tri-Hot line, but will now be more widely available in Odyssey’s flagship line.

The insert is comprised of two layers of urethane with a softer outer layer and firmer inner layer shaped by artificial intelligence to control ball speeds. While there is no window to view the back of the insert like the Ai-ONE line, you can see the contours on the underside of the insert on the bottom of the putter.

Like in Tri-Hot, the insert is paired with deeper and more aggressively pitched Forward Roll Design grooves to provide consistent forward roll across the face.

Updates to S2S

There are three Square 2 Square options with the No. 7, Jailbird and S2S Max shapes. While Tri-Hot introduced low-torque putters without shaft lean, the new Ai-Dual options still have shaft lean, although reduced from 3.3˚ to 2˚ from the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square models.

“In the last 18 months, 40 percent of the market has said, ‘We don’t mind shaft lean. We bought it. We like it,’” Davidson said.

On the standard-length models, Odyssey has created a new reverse taper grip, which offsets that shaft lean. While other manufacturers use straight taper offset grips on their low torque putters with shaft lean, Odyssey’s version has a more standard-sized upper hand, making the grip feel more natural.

S2S models will also come with a heavier black SL120 shaft rather than the silver SL90 shaft in the rest of the Ai-Dual lineup. That came directly from Tour feedback as players were asking for low-torque models with heavier shafts to stabilize the stroke. The black shaft is also less distracting with the center-shaft placement.

My take: Alignment means everything

Your putter is only as good as you can aim it and Odyssey has always taken that message to heart.

The big message with the new Ai-Dual lineup is the 1/2 Ball alignment aid, which is something that looks far better than the 2-Ball in my mind and acomplishes the same thing.

When it comes to the Odyssey lineup, the Double Wide is my favorite shape and going back and forth between the traditional version and the new 1/2 Ball version has been fun to see how much better I get centered over the ball. We’ve seen more subtle examples of this concept, but the Odyssey version is the simplest and easiest to use.

That’s the whole point of alignment tech, too. What good is it if you have to explain to someone what it is and what it does?

The new line is also another example to praise the Ai-Dual insert for the vastly improved feel over Ai-ONE. Ai-Dual feels soft, but there’s still enough sound to get some feedback that most players want. I think this could be an insert Odyssey that starts to rival Microhinge for dominance on the PGA Tour.

At $549, Odyssey’s new S2S Tri-Hot putters are the company’s most expensive options in their retail lineup by at least $50 and some of the most expensive retail putters they have ever released.

So naturally, there are always critics who complain about the putters being so expensive.

But on last week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, Callaway Tour Content Manager Johnny Thompson explained why the putter is so expensive and why you should see for yourself if the performance benefits are worth it.

The S2S Tri-Hot putters feature a new forward shaft placement for a low-torque putter that allows it to setup much more like a conventional putter without significant onset or any shaft lean. This was achieved through the use of a lightweight aluminum backpiece and 140 grams of tungsten in the front piece to move the CG forward.

“The amount of tech that’s involved in and for them to get that putter to not have shaft lean and not have onset and to be, in a sense, like a traditional center shaft setup, like it required expensive raw materials that just alone cost a lot,” Thompson said. “One hundred and forty grams of tungsten is very expensive.

“And then shaping it into a, you know, something that can house an insert like all, it’s expensive.”

Thompson explained that Odyssey isn’t trying to get away from its more consumer-friendly price points that the brand has become known for over the years, but the benefits can make the price worth it.

“Like we don’t expect everybody to run out and buy Square2Square Tri-Hot. We understand, but it’s a premium product,” he added. “We hope that they can see that. And you know, I tell people, I was like, ‘Hey, you’re going to make more putts.’ It means you’re going to cash a few more skins, but win a few more bets. It’s all going to even out.”

Odyssey is taking aim at one of the barriers to the “zero torque” putting with its latest Square 2 Square release.

The trendy putting method has caught fire over the last several years, but many players still shy away from the typically center-shafted and onset designs because of their unfamiliarity.

But with the new S2S Tri-Hot line, Odyssey has taken the shaft axis and moved it forward, allowing the shaft to sit closer to the leading edge of the putter, but still go through the CG of the putter to give it toe-up properties.

In addition to the new configuration, the putters feature a new Ai-Dual inset, which is the next iteration of Callaway’s Ai-designed face inserts introduced with the Ai-One line two years ago.

What are Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot putters?

The new S2S Tri-Hot putters are unmistakable on a putting green with a new red and black color scheme, which goes back to the brand’s colors.

“As we say in the building, our product has to be ‘DSPD,’ Callaway VP of Product Strategy Jacob Davidson told GOLF. “Which is demonstrably superior, pleasingly different. We felt like getting that red and black — it would be something that’s visible on TV — it’s true to Odyssey.”

The putters are offered in three different popular Odyssey head shapes — No. 7, Rossie and Jailbird, which also comes in a 38″ Cruiser configuration — but the next thing you’ll notice about them is the forward shaft location compared to other low torque putter options.

Davidson said that allows the putters to be played without shaft lean, which has been one of the barriers to low torque putters for many players. Now you can have a low torque putter, but keep your hands in a traditional position.

To achieve this, Odyssey used a three-piece construction — thus the reintroduction of the Tri-Hot name — with more than 140 grams of tungsten in the front piece of the putter and a lightweight aluminum back piece. The insert and tungsten are covered by a steel body where the shaft is attached.

The putters also feature a new Ai-Dual insert, which was designed using artificial intelligence with a dual-layer urethane insert that has a soft outer layer and a firm inner layer. The grooves have also been redesigned with a more aggressive 19˚ slope.

To complete the builds, Odyssey is also introducing a new, heavier and stiffer SL120 shaft based on player feedback and a new pistol plus grip that was developed when Odyssey noticed players were overwhelmingly using larger-sized grips.

Who are Osyssey S2S Tri-Hot putters for?

This has been a common theme with recent low torque putter releases, but S2S Tri-Hot putter are going to do great for the player who has wanted to get into a low torque putter, but has been hesitant due to the unconventional characteristics.

While it’s still a center-shafted putter, at address, the new Tri-Hots look a lot more like regular putters with the shaft much closer to the face (there’s still a bit of onset), and can be stroked just like a regular putter.

The feel is also a good bit more responsive than the original Ai-One insert.

My thoughts!

There was a good deal of hype when the S2S Tri-Hots first started showing up on pro tours a few weeks ago and after rolling the putters myself, I get it

As someone who doesn’t traditionally like mallets, I’m drawn to the smallest shape, the Rossie and I’ve found I don’t have to make any of the adjustments to my setup that I do for other low torque putters. I make no adjustments to my hand position or forward press and I don’t need to play the ball as far forward.

Bigger grips also play very well on low torque putters to help someone like me, who has years of muscle memory releasing the toe, quiet my hands at the let the putter stay square naturally. I’m glad to see Odyssey simply put the type of grip on a putter that people were putting on it anyway.

I’ve never really been one for synthetic material inserts because they have that plasticky feel and sound that seems cheap to me. This one is different because it retains a soft feel that I like but is more responsive. Plus, new grooves seem to produce a great roll indoors (I haven’t had a chance to test outside yet). The price point ($550) might be surprising for an Odyssey putter, but this putter has a premium feel for sure.

Lastly, I think there’s a lot to build of this release. During my interview with Davidson, I pointed out that the front pieces of the three different models are very similar. Theoretically, it seems like you could just create new backpieces and create all kinds of different shapes from the platform.

Welcome to GOLF’s Fully Equipped’s weekly Tour equipment report. Each Friday of PGA Tour weeks (plus other times, if news warrants), GOLF equipment editor Jack Hirsh will run you through some of the biggest news surrounding golf clubs on Tour, including changes, tweaks and launches.

There’s no doubt, the fade has become the preferred shot shape at the upper echelons of golf.

The years of players meticulously crafting their swings to move from the inside out and hit push-draws have been replaced with power players pulling the club inside as hard as they can and hitting left-to-right peelers to retain spin and control.

Min Woo Lee, with his 124+ mph clubhead speed (fourth on the PGA Tour this season), is no exception. So why did Lee just switch into Callaway’s Eltye Triple Diamond Tour Draw driver head?

To understand why Lee, a modern power hitter who typically plays a fade, would switch into a driver head optimized to hit the ball the other way, we need to understand exactly what the Callaway Triple Diamond Tour Draw (herein referred to as the Triple Diamond TD) platform does.

The Triple Diamond head is Callaway’s Tour-inspired driver profile. It’s a slightly smaller head (450 cc), has more of a pear shape preferred by better players and, most importantly for our purposes, it has a right bias.

Lee won earlier this year at the Texas Children’s Houston Open with the Elyte Triple Diamond head, but notably, he had a wild right miss on the 70th hole, leaving the crucial tee ball in the water. He ended up making a bogey and got the win, but the right miss was the ball Lee feared, and it made him gunshy, according to Callaway Tour Content Manager Johnny Thompson. Lee fell from 5th to 102nd this season in Strokes Gained: Off-the-tee this season and hit just 55 percent of his fairways.

“With Triple Diamond, in the direction that his golf swing went. He was, he was looking up sometimes and seeing like, ‘Man, that kind of really slid and I just don’t feel like the golf swing produced that much slide,'” Thompson said. “That little doubt, which, under high-pressure situations, on those difficult golf courses they play, can be very discomforting, especially coming down the stretch.”

That’s where the Triple Diamond TD solves the problem. The Tour Draw head isn’t your typical draw-bias game improvement driver — although Callaway has a staffer, Alex Noren, who uses one of those for similar reasons.

Callaway Elyte Mini, TD Max and TD Tour Draw drivers | 4 things to know

The TD TD was introduced because Callaway found that players, specifically on lower speed tours like the PGA Tour Champions and LPGA, were setting up Triple Diamond heads to negate some of the head’s right bias. It has less face progression (the face of the driver sits behind the center of the shaft — i.e. more offset) and a different center of gravity to help encourage a straighter start line.

That turned out to be just what Lee needed.

“When they tested the Triple Diamond TD with the guys over in Europe, it was almost plug and play,” Thompson said. “Because he didn’t change his shaft. He didn’t change the length, didn’t change swing weight. The weights were even set up very similarly so that the feel of where the CG is in relation to the shaft axis — all that stuff was fairly similar.

“You could almost call it like a single variable change where they just gave a reduction of right bias.”

The new build paid immediate dividends for Lee two weeks ago at the FedEx Open de France where Lee was No. 2 in SG: Off-the-tee and T1 in driving accuracy on his way to a T5 finish.

This week in Mississippi, despite a lackluster 70-73 showing, Lee ranked inside the top-30 in SG: Off-the-tee, picking up more than a shot-and-a-half on the field.

At the Sanderson Farms Championship this week, a 12 players are going without a 4-iron, employing a high-lofted fairway wood or hybrid in its place to attack pins at the Country Club of Jackson.

Even as players opted to remove long irons, for a while it seemed like the trend would stop with 4-irons. But now Tour reps are able to adjust internal weighting of hybrids and high-lofted fairway woods to the point where they can produce any ballflight a player needs.

Many of them are replacing them with Ping 9-woods and hybrids.

“10 years ago, I would imagine there had probably been no players without a 4-iron,” Ping Tour Rep Kenton Oates told GOLF. “Now you have 12 guys not using one.”

Oates said, with the dramatic uptake in use of launch monitors, players are much more aware of their impact numbers and have become less steep in their angle of attack. Couple that with advances in equipment, especially the golf ball, and even pros with speed lose distance with 4-irons because they don’t spin enough. Then they have a gapping issue.

“Let’s say your 7-iron goes 190, your 6-iron is 203, your 5-iron is at 216, well, then the 4-iron is only going 220 or 223 because it’s just not staying in the air,” he said. “That player probably hits their 7-wood 255.”

That’s when a 9-wood becomes a great option because it can consistently carry 230 yards and modern advancements in weighting allow players to control trajectory better. As a bonus, it’s way more forgiving.

“It feels like you have a pitching wedge that you hit 230 yards, which you can imagine that’s a pretty good feeling to have,” Oates said.

He did give the example of a player with a high ballflight who might find a 9-wood always flies that same peak height. But that’s when you can use a 4- or 5-hybrid to fill the gap like Thriston Lawerence and Paul Petersen are doing this week.

Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot Launch

It’s that time of the year when companies are releasing new 2026 gear seemingly every week.

This week, Odyssey’s Square 2 Square Tri-Hot putters launched on all global tours and GOLF’s Jake Morrow got a look at the new designs at this week’s Epson Tour Championship.

So far, the folks at Odyssey are tight-lipped about the new technology in these putters, but from what we can see, there’s an obvious story of the weighting of these putters compared to the original Odyssey Square 2 Square.

The shaft is placed more forward with the S2S Tri-Hot and because the shaft axis of a zero torque putter must be through the CG of the putter, that mean mass must be pushed forward in these putters. That implies less onset than the original S2S, which should offer a more standard look to those coming from a traditional putter.

There appears to be a new dual-material face insert that maintains the AI Smart Face tech from the Ai-ONE line.

Lastly, a new red and black color scheme bears a striking resemblance to Xander Schauffele’s gamer.

After nearly 30 years, Odyssey is finally releasing a version of the putter Happy Gilmore made famous.

To celebrate the forthcoming release of Happy Gilmore 2, the long-awaited sequel of the Adam Sandler cult-classic golf comedy, Odyssey is dropping a limited-edition Hockey Stick putter. The version hitting the retail market in limited quantities is an modified version of the putter Happy, played by Sandler, used to chase down Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) and win the season-capping Tour Championship.

In the original film, Chubbs Peterson, played by the late Carl Weathers, gifted the hockey stick putter to Happy just before the Tour Championship.

Odyssey’s updated version of the putter will be featured in Happy Gilmore 2.

Coming in at 44 inches and with a 57˚ lie angle, the new Happy Gilmore hockey stick putter has specs closer to a driver than a typical putter and features a 21″ grip that makes it optimized for anyone who would want to use Happy’s famous slap-shot putting method.

Unfortunately, a Callaway spokesperson said, because the back of the hockey stick putter is flat, it is non-conforming for play under the Rules of Golf, but that shouldn’t stop you from taking it out on the course and giving it a whirl.

The putter is outfitted in the primary hitting area with Odyssey’s iconic White Hot insert, perhaps the largest of its kind, as well as two extra inserts toward the heel and toe.

It also comes with a custom Happy Gilmore tube sock headcover; stitched into the sock are Happy’s name and the famed “Just tap it in” quote from the movie.

In conjunction with the Hockey Stick putter, Callaway is also releasing a limited-edition box of Chrome Tour golf balls, the same ball Happy will play in the sequel, with special hockey-themed icons and quotes from the original movie like “Just tap it in” and “It’s all in the hips” printed on them.

“It’s so exciting for us to be part of one of the most iconic golf franchises and to be able to update the famous Hockey Stick Putter, as well as bring the exclusive Chrome Tour Balls to the market,” said Nick McInally, Callaway vice president of global marketing.

Ever since the LPGA began keeping strokes gained stats in 2021, Minjee Lee has been one of the Tour’s worst putters statistically. Despite winning two majors before this season in that time, Lee has consistently ranked outside the top 120 and lost a half stroke or more on the greens in each of the last three seasons.

This year is a much different story. Lee is 8th on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained: putting and just led the field in the category at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championshipm as she won her third career major title last weekend.

The obvious catalyst behind the switch? Lee, a longtime blade user, made the move to a 42-inch Odyssey Ai-ONE Square 2 Square No. 7 Broomstick putter at the suggestion of her longtime coach, Ritchie Smith.

“We sat down after the end of last year, and were maybe this is an option to try it and just to see what our feels were,” Lee told GOLF. “And obviously, Ritchie, he was like, ‘I’m no expert, but we will figure it out together.'”

As the season was still coming to a close, Lee and Smith initially put the idea on the back burner, but once the offseason began, they decided to revisit it and Odyssey sent Lee a few different options to try.

She eventually started to get comfortable with a No. 7 shape from Odyssey’s new Square 2 Square line (The exact putter is not yet available in a broomstick configuration at retail) and she started to roll both her gamer and the broomstick head to head.

“The first few sessions, we were like, ‘Oh, the roll is way better on the broomstick,'” Lee said. “And it was just more sort of trying to figure out like, which kind of grip to use, especially with my right hand, because I was trying to take my hands really out of the stroke and use the shoulders.”

Obviously, finding the proper fit with a broomstick can be a challenge. Unlike fitting for a conventional putter or a counterbalance model, you don’t exactly have the same feel as with a broomstick. Your stance is different, your grip is different and therefore your feel is going to be different. You’re essentially starting over from scratch.

Lee said she found better success with shorter versions of a broomstick because the longer putters felt heavier.

Then, the first time he challenged her brother, PGA Tour winner Min Woo Lee, to a putting competition with the new wand, she beat him.

“I was a bit chuffed,” she said, laughing.

Six months later, she’s added a major win to what’s already been a successful season and she’s looking for more.

“The more I play tournaments and the more I see putts go in and the more work I do with the broomstick, I think obviously I’m gaining more and more confidence and producing better results week in and week out,” Lee said. “I feel like I’m just getting a bit more comfortable with how it should be working and like kind of the stroke I need to put on it to have like kind of a pure roll.

“I just try to think of it as a new adventure, not something that’s negative. I just wanted it to be something positive and something fun. Obviously, if I’m doing well with it, it’s even better.”
