As more and more players gravitate toward mallet putters, the category has evolved.

While most options still fall in between, new options are coming out, hitting the poles of being more like a blade and pushing MOI to the maximum.

Scotty Cameron’s latest additions to its Phantom line of mallets — the new Phantom 3.2 and Phantom 12 putters — cover both ends of the spectrum.

“The mid-mallet category is really popular on Tour, and the 3.2 was basically designed to blend together different iconic Cameron shapes from the past,” Scotty Cameron Senior Director of Putter R&D, Austie Rollinson, said in a release.

Meanwhile, the Phantom 12 solves what Rollinson described as a hole in the Scotty Cameron lineup until this point.

“We are missing a deep center-of-gravity mallet in our line,” he told GOLF. “We found that the deep center of gravity changes the way people can stroke the ball. It gives them the feeling of stability when they’re swinging it.”

Both new shapes should look familiar to gearheads. The Phantom 3 shape originally launched on the PGA Tour last July at the 3M Open and was in the bag for Ryan Gerard as he secured his Masters invite at the end of last season in Mauritius. Ludvig Aberg also recently added the Phantom 3.2 after months of testing.

The Phantom 12 first appeared on Tour in February and Lydia Ko shot 60 in her first round using it. Rollinson said the reason for the late-season launch of the new shapes was to gather Tour validation.

A blending of designs

The 2025 Studio Style blade and mid-mallet line did not include a new GoLo shape. The round-back mallet shape is still very popular on Tour, with Gary Woodland and Bud Cauley winning this season with center-shafted GoLo 7 putters, as well as Rickie Fowler using the same putter all season.

But the GoLo is a rare example of Tour usage and success not translating to retail for Cameron, Rollinson said.

“We wanted to bring out something new, but we didn’t want to just do another GoLo because of how the market reacted to it,” Rollinson said. “So I started to say, ‘Why don’t I kind of try to blend a GoLo and some of the features of Phantom?'”

Several other memorable Scotty Cameron mallet putters actually inspired the final design. The overall footprint is similar to the GoLo 6, while the face profile was taken from the Red X, Cameron’s mid-mallet concept in the mid-2000s. The slots that can help frame the golf ball at address were borrowed from the Kombi, the mallet design Adam Scott used to win the 2013 Masters. They also removed mass from the middle to increase forgiveness.

Lastly, the top T-alignment feature is copied from the current Phantom 9, which allows the putter to feature three full-length sight lines. Alignment was a design priority for the Phantom 3 as a way of bringing the front-to-back alignment themes from the rest of the Phantom line to a mid-mallet.

For now, the shape will only be offered with “.2” plumber’s neck, but that was intentional with the focus on giving blade-players a mallet option.

“It fits a lot of players because it gets your hands in a height that’s kind of neutral,” Rollinson said. “I think the geometry of that plumbing neck doesn’t obscure the view like some single bends, double bends and jet necks do. For players that have grown up using blades, it’s easy to transition into this.”

Like the rest of the Phantom 2026 lineup, the Phantom 3.2 sports the soft Studio Carbon Steel insert on the face with a chain-link milling pattern to fine-tune sound and feel.

Filling the high-MOI gap

The new Phantom 12 was designed specifically to meet the growing trend of high-MOI, deep-CG putters. It has both the deepest and the lowest CG in the lineup created through increased use of aluminum in the center of the putter with a steel ring around the outside and rear.

In addition to the added stability, Scotty Cameron’s research shows players react to deep CG putters by hitting up on the ball more and producing better forward roll.

That pushes MOI to around 5,000 g/cm², but Rollinson was quick to say they made no performance concessions to get there.

“Anything over 5,000 [MOI], you’re just bragging. You’re making concessions to get that number,” Rollinson said. “If you look at the actual data, performance starts to plateau. You have to be careful about not chasing an inertia number because when you chase that number, you just start pulling the CG farther and farther back.”

The Phantom 12 also notably does not use the Studio Carbon Steel face insert like the rest of Scotty Cameron’s in-line putters, with the exception of the Phantom 11R OC. Instead, the aluminum from the center of the putter extends to the face and is milled with the chain-link pattern.

The use of the lighter aluminum allows the CG to stay deep and low in the putter, while preserving the milled feel Cameron is known for.

“The marketing guys will say, ‘Let’s have some synergy,'” Rollinson said. “But you’re sacrificing the performance of this to do that. I’d rather have each one perform as best as it can. I think it’s okay that it looks a little different.”

Cosmetically, the 12 also looks different from the rest of the Phantom lineup with a different space gray finish, the word Phantom is inscribed on the inside of the aluminum and a single large cherry bomb on the heel. That was a deliberate choice to align the retail release more with the putters out on Tour.

The new Phantom lineup

Phantom 3.2 will be offered in both right- and left-handed options, while the Phantom 12 will be right-hand only.

Phantom 3.2

What is it: A compact mid-mallet with a rounded profile, plumbers neck and several alignment aids.

Who it’s for: Blade players who are looking for a mallet that strokes more similarly to a blade and features lots of alignment aids.

Phantom 12

What is it: Scotty Cameron’s highest MOI and lowest CG putter in the Phantom lineup with a milled aluminum face. The Phantom 12 features a single-bend shaft for face-balanced performance.

Who it’s for: Players seeking ultimate stability while still keeping a familiar milled feel.

My take: Bookending the Phantom lineup

The putter market is undergoing a makeover and Scotty Cameron is getting ahead of it. Scotty Cameron’s mallet line is now more important than ever.

On Tour, behind the TaylorMade Spider’s rabid success, many players are opting for high-MOI mallets, while any of the remaining blade holdouts want something that feels familiar.

There’s still a place for Cameron’s flagship Phantom 5, 7 and 9 models (see Cameron Young, Justin Thomas and Russell Henley), but now Cameron has options for players on the poles of the spectrum within their Phantom lineup.

It’s really interesting to look at the Phantom 3.2 and wonder what the need is when the Fastback and Squareback kind of occupy the transitional mid-mallet space in Cameron’s current lineup. But with the Phantom 3, you now have options for players who want parallel alignment aids, not just perpendicular, like Fastback and Squareback.

And with Phantom 12, not only does Scotty Cameron finally have a clean-looking high-MOI mallet, but it also gives them an option for players who want a slightly firmer feel. Although the thickness of the aluminum and chain-link milling does dampen vibrations somewhat, it’s not to the level of the SCS insert.

Scotty Cameron already has one of the most popular mallet platforms both on Tour and at retail. Now they have options to satisfy everybody.

Scotty Cameron’s new Phantom 3.2 and Phantom 12 putters are available for pre-order starting June 16. Phantom 3.2 RH will arrive at retail locations on June 25, while the Phantom 3.2 LH and Phantom 12 (RH-only) will be in shops on July 23.

Both putters will cost $499.

Like the rest of the Phantom lineup, the 3.2 and 12 will come in stock loft of 3.5˚, lie angle of 70˚ and length options will be available from 33″, 34″ or 35″ with Scotty Cameron’s gray Full contact grip.

TaylorMade’s second low-torque release is supercharging one of the most popular low-torque options already on the market. And just because you might not see it on the PGA Tour, that doesn’t mean it can’t help you make more putts.

The company announced today, along with the revamped 2026 Spider Tour Torched lineup, the new Spider ZT Max, which represents something of a split between TaylorMade’s Spider ZT brand and the rest of the Spider lineup.

Where the Spider Tour lineup will take cues from Tour, Spider ZT-5K and ZT Max are aimed more at the recreational golfer who wants the game to be as fun and easy as possible.

“We’ve learned that consumer demand for the first time in my career has moved in a different direction than what the Tour player has traditionally wanted,” TaylorMade Director of Product Creation, Andrew Oldknow, told GOLF. “A lot of our athletes can feel and nuance all these things, and using torque to their advantage has been a benefit for them. But for consumers, a lot of us just want to point, shoot, aim it and swing it.

“Spider ZT set a high bar for what a high-MOI mallet could do. With Spider ZT Max, we took that foundation and expanded it — literally.”

The new Spider ZT Max features a head shape very similar to the original Spider ZT but is now 20 percent larger to increase MOI. Spider ZT Max launched on Tour last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

What’s actually new with TaylorMade Spider ZT Max — and why you should care

Going all-in on MOI

TaylorMade took the original ZT design and essentially put it on steroids by making it 20 percent larger and adding heavy steel and tungsten weighting to the corners to push mass to the corners and increase MOI.

The original Spider ZT had roughly g/cm2 5,000 MOI, hence the 5K moniker, right in line with the Spider Tour X, while the new ZT Max pushes that number to around 7,000 g/cm2 in a standard configuration. The extreme MOI is one reason the new 2026 Spider Tour lineup does not feature the ultra-high-MOI Spider Tour S.

“We wanted to put that number [5K] on there because we thought that’s sort of the minimum starting point for a zero-torque putter,” Oldknow said. “And since then we’ve been working on how much MOI can we get? … We decided let’s take these really high-MOI products and put them into the zero-torque line.”

TaylorMade saw that most players seeking an ultra-high MOI putter were gravitating toward low-torque models for greater ease of use.

With the increase in size also comes a deeper CG. Thus, the new ZT Max has a 2˚ shaft lean instead of the 1˚ shaft lean on the ZT-5K to accommodate the 9 mm deeper CG.

Like the rest of the Spider family, however, the centerpiece of the ZT Max is TaylorMade’s PureRoll insert, made from a combination of Surlyn and aluminum with 45-degree grooves designed to get the ball rolling forward of the face.

Different strokes for different folks

They’re also seeing that while low-torque usage has somewhat stabilized on the Tour, it still accounts for a huge and growing sector of the consumer marketplace.

Many golfers can benefit from playing putters like the Spider Tour line, which has been widely adopted on Tour, but many don’t practice much. They want something that is essentially point-and-shoot.

The ZT Max caters to that point. Oldknow doesn’t expect to see many ZT Maxes go in play on the PGA Tour, but the consumer market will be a much different story.

“We don’t expect to see a lot on Tour,” Oldknow said. “All these ball strikers are looking for feel more so than they are looking for a toe-up, face-forward product.

“We think this is going to be something that’s going to work well in the marketplace.”

The TaylorMade Spider ZT Max lineup

Spider ZT Max is available in either a standard configuration, 36″ and 38″ counterbalance lengths or a 46″ long build.

What is it: A large super-high MOI low-torque mallet with a center-shaft design. The putter is 20 percent larger than the original Spider ZT and, with the addition of heavy steel and tungsten weighting in the corners, pushes MOI to between 7000 g/cm2 in the standard model and nearly 9000 g/cm2 in the long model.

Who it’s for: Players who want the most stable putter that will naturally stay square throughout the putting stroke.

My take: Low-torque putters are bifurcating putting, and TaylorMade sees that

Low-torque putters are certainly not a fad, but the way Oldknow speaks about the ZT Max seems to indicate a bit of maturing in the marketplace.

The message is now that low-torque putters aren’t for everyone, and likely not for players who rely on feel. But for those who don’t have the reps to develop that feel or want something that is point-and-shoot, low-torque can be the solution.

That’s not to say Tour pros are abandoning low-torque putters in droves, but even if they did, consumers would likely still go for putters like the ZT Max because, for the right person, they can make the game easier.

I’ve typically steered away from extreme shaft lean, which is one reason I, and many others in this space, really like the ZT-5K. But even with the 2˚ shaft lean on the ZT Max, it’s so large and looks similar enough to the ZT-5K that it’s harder to distinguish.

ZT Max is a great example of a putter I’d want if I took six months off from the game and then played half-asleep. The putter requires very little thought to hit on a straight line. Where things become an issue for me is when you introduce a break, but that’s why I prefer a higher-torque putter like the Spider Tour.

But for anyone who can putt point-to-point, the Spider ZT Max is going to be a great match.

TaylorMade’s s new ZT Max putters are available to order starting June 4 online and at retail locations.

The standard model, available in 33″, 34″ and 35″ lengths for both left- and right-handed players, will cost $449.99. The ZT Max Counterbalance sells for $499.99 while the ZT Max Long costs $549.99.

Standard models come with a 2˚ off-axis SuperStroke Tour 2.0 grip while the counterbalance model has the option of either a SuperStroke 2.0 XL at 13.75″ or SuperStroke 3.0 at 17″. Golf’s winningest putter family is getting a makeover without changing what has made it successful.

With the new 2026 TaylorMade Spider Tour Torched lineup, the widely popular Spider Tour and Spider Tour X models, the winners of seven PGA Tour events already this season, aren’t changing, save for new cosmetics including a new torched PVD finish inspired by Rory McIlroy’s gamer.

But the lineup also introduces two forward-CG mallets, the Spider Tour V and Spider Tour F, marking a push toward using CG placement as fitting tools for putters.

“What my goal was, let’s push these a little further apart so that when you do walk into the corral, and you try all four models, they should all feel different to you,” TaylorMade Director of Product Creation, Andrew Oldknow, told GOLF. “And based on what works for you, you’re going to find the one that fits your game a little bit better.

“The role of the Spider putter is to be the putter for everybody and make sure that we are on trend and doing things that consumers want as well as Tour players. We’re listening to the right consumers, taking all the data and making really good decisions on where we go in the future with the product line.”

The new Spider Tour putters debuted on the PGA Tour at April’s RBC Heritage and have already seen strong usage. All models retain TaylorMade’s Pure Roll insert, which has become a catalyst for the brand’s massive momentum, both on Tour and at retail, over the past two years. The Spider putter family was the No. 1 selling putter family on Fairway Jockey in 2025.

What’s actually new with Spider Tour Torched — and why you should care

CG as a putter fitting tool

While the wildly popular Spider Tour X and Spider Tour aren’t changing, the addition of the Spider Tour V and Spider Tour F allows TaylorMade to focus on using CG as a fitting tool.

“What we’ve noticed with a lot of our Tour players is we’ve got to look at how they putt. What are their misses?” Oldknow said. “Are they missing more left or more right? Then we can look at CG, MOI and hosel and fine-tune what works for that consumer.”

In the previous generation, the Spider Tour V (used by Aaron Rai) and the Spider Tour Z (used by Shane Lowry) possessed slightly more forward CGs than the Tour and X models with just slightly lower MOI. While high-MOI putters are great for additional forgiveness, there’s a trade-off in face awareness for some players.

With the new Tour V, the CG is pushed even farther forward. This lowers the MOI but gives it a feel similar to a blade player to match their stroke. The new Tour F falls between the V and the X, while the Tour remains the deepest-CG option.

“Nobody’s really talking about what happens to the center of gravity of the product,” Oldknow said. “The deeper the CG is away from the face, the more stable the product is in terms of rotating your hands. If I gave you the same hosel with a very forward CG, one in the middle and one with a very back CG, they would all feel differently to you.”

The Tour V ends up as a sort of niche option in the lineup, but one that Oldknow says could play a big role.

“We wanted to make sure that we had something in there for somebody who’s been in a blade and had a really hard time trying to get into a mallet,” he said. “That shape should be the one I would start that consumer with, especially with an L-neck, because most people in blades are in that L-neck configuration.”

Bringing Rory’s putter to retail

While Scottie Scheffler now famously switched to a Spider Tour X L-neck in 2024, which was an “all bells and whistles Spider putter” that is essentially an off-the-rack putter, Rory McIlroy’s is not.

McIlroy switched to the custom-torched Spider Tour X Small Slant that didn’t have the TruePath alignment aid. At the time, TaylorMade didn’t have any Spider Tour Xs with a clean single-line top. McIlroy has since won back-to-back Masters since switching to the putter in late 2024.

While the finish was striking, the torching wasn’t viable for a retail release because it wasn’t very durable. So TaylorMade spent the last year working with suppliers to develop a finish that would achieve a look similar to McIlroy’s torching.

“A lot of consumers are going to see it and love the finish,” Oldknow said. “A lot of Tour players have seen it and said they really like the look of it. Everything we want to do is very Tour-focused. We’re listening to all these little nuanced details and trying to drive them into consumer product.”

The PVD finish is also darker and less reflective than previous generations.

Spider becomes its own brand

One thing you won’t see on any of the new Spider putters is the classic TaylorMade T-bug logo or wordmark.

Instead, TaylorMade is treating Spider as its own brand, highlighting multiple Spider logos on the sole and face, as well as a new electric blue color scheme first debuted on the Spider ZT putter last year.

Those branding touches also serve a function, as the new sole plate was borrowed from the Spider ZT to help keep the putter from sliding on slick greens.

“We had some Tour players complaining that they just needed the putter to sit on the ground and not move when they’re fidgeting and trying to get everything set perfectly,” Oldknow said. “We started adding a little bit of texture to the sole plate so it doesn’t want to creep offline on these very slick Bermuda greens.”

Oldknow added that establishing the putter line as its own brand allows TaylorMade to try new things such as shapes, alignment aids, finishes and hosel configurations.

All of this while not deviating from the three pillars that Spider stands for — stability (like the high-MOI Tour and Tour X shapes), aim (the TruePath system) and roll (the PureRoll insert).

The 2026 Spider Tour Torched lineup

The 2026 Spider Tour Torched lineup includes four head shapes, with three hosel options available for the Spider Tour and Spider Tour X models. Two hosels are available on the Spider Tour F, while the Spider Tour V is available in an L-neck.

Spider Tour X

What is it: TaylorMade’s flagship high-MOI mallet used by Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. There have been no design changes to the Spider Tour X, and for the first time at retail, TaylorMade is offering the Short Slant option without True Path and a long line, identical to Rory McIlroy’s gamer. The CG depth ranges from 34-36 mm behind the face.

Available hosel options: Short Slant (With or without TruePath), L-Neck, Double Bend

Who it’s for: Spider Tour X will appeal to the broadest range of golfers, with multiple hosel and alignment options.

Spider Tour

What is it: The classic Spider shape representing the highest MOI in the lineup, with all configurations having a CG depth of 36 mm. For the first time, the L-neck model is offered with or without TaylorMade’s True Path alignment system.

Available hosel options: Short Slant, L-Neck (With or without TruePath), Double Bend (Counter Balance)

Who it’s for: Players who want maximum forgiveness in a Tour-proved shape and package.

Spider Tour V

What is it: From the previous generation, the Spider Tour V has been reimagined to push the CG much further forward (21 mm), giving players the most blade-like Spider yet without compromising forgiveness. A short sightline and L-neck configuration also help attract blade users.

Available hosel options: L-Neck

Who it’s for: Players looking to transition from a blade and who like to feel the face rotate through the stroke.

Spider Tour F

What is it: A completely new Spider shape, the Spider Tour F was created through extensive Tour feedback from working with Collin Morikawa. The F also has a similar forward CG (22 mm) to the Spider Tour V, but with more defined alignment features that have made mallets so popular.

“We spent a good six months trying to figure out how to make a Spider version of what we call a fang putter,” Oldknow said of the new shape. “We wanted to have stability, aim and roll, as always, those three pillars. If they wanted to stay in that fang silhouette but take advantage of Pure Roll and Spider technology, now they have an option to do that too.”

Available hosel options: L-Neck, Double Bend

Who it’s for: Players who prefer fang-style mallets with strong alignment aids and a forward CG.

My take: Spider is becoming more Tour-inspired

If there’s a big takeaway from this Spider release, it’s that TaylorMade is taking more cues from Tour usage to inform their retail putter releases than ever before.

You can see that not only in the new finish, which is inspired by Rory McIlroy’s previously Tour-only modification, but also the array of alignment aids and hosel options.

That was something Oldknow said was a key point for him when he took over product creation for putters three years ago.

“I really wanted to make sure that Tour was an integral part of what we do,” he said. “We’ve opened that up and wanted to focus on the Spider brand and make sure the brand’s really strong and the Tour options are powerful. If they want to try things, we’re going to give them the freedom to try things.”

Spider has exploded in popularity in that time, especially the Spider Tour X model. But while many pros are gravitating toward Spider Tour X and Spider Tour, there are still other options out there that Spider hasn’t yet covered, like a fang-style mallet or one that could make it easier to transition from a blade.

L.A.B. Golf is returning to the characteristics and benefits that put their putters on the map: bigger, more forgiving and easier to aim.

While the company’s most recent releases (OZ.1, OZ.1i HS and LINK 2 models) have been smaller and more traditional, its latest offering, the VZN.1i (pronounced Vision One Eye), maximizes forgiveness and is a synch to line up.

“Now we go back the other way, where bigger is better,” L.A.B. Golf co-founder Sam Hahn told GOLF. “God knows how much research is out there explaining it, and the more you can move weight and mass out to the corners of the putter, the better off you’re going to be. We’ve tested it a bunch internally and most people aim it better than any one of our putters. I think that’s a combination of the trapezoidal shape, some of the intention around the scoops and cuts that we made, and the way that it sits on the ground. You put it all together and you’re just not questioning where you’re looking.”

Hahn called the VZN.1i his favorite putter the company has ever produced.

What’s actually new with the L.A.B. Golf VZN.1i — and why you should care

While L.A.B.’s most recent releases focused on broadening their consumer base to try the Lie Angle Balance technology, the VZN.1i returns to the super-forgiving designs that became the staple of low-torque putters.

The square opening in the rear of the putter removes mass from the center while increasing the MOI. It also serves as a ball-pickup mechanism, like the DF3, but there’s also an opening in the rear if players want to use it as a scoop.

The result is a trapezoidal shape that gives strong visual cues to help players see their lines better. Hahn said the alignment was more of a focus point of the design than even the forgiveness.

“There was a lot of intention around alignment,” Hahn said. “I think that a lot of people get thrown by onset and certainly shaft lean, and so there was a ton of intention around the way that this putter soles and the way that it lines up.”

Hahn compared the alignment aids, when paired with the extreme stability, to feeling like being on rails. The sole also was redesigned to help the putter sit square, which, as Hahn said, can be an issue for many players when the shaft is in an onset position.

Lastly, the new putter features L.A.B.’s steel insert, which Hahn said has become popular since being introduced on the OZ.1i and later DF3i. The VZN.1i has a new deeper milling, which Hahn said is more of an evolution in technique than trying to create a specific feel target.

The L.A.B. Golf VZN.1i

What is it: A high MOI, low-torque mallet with sharp lines and visual cues to help players line up to their targets.

Who it’s for: Players who have traditionally struggled to line up onset or low-torque designs.

My take: The easiest L.A.B to line up

While I am currently using an onset putter, it’s not a low-torque model — partly because when the shaft gets too far away from the face, I struggle to see the face point anywhere but left.

As low-torque usage has skyrocketed, golfers have become more accustomed to things like center-shafted designs, big shapes and shaft lean. But one issue is that while onset allows an unobstructed view of the face, to someone who has used a putter with offset their whole life, it looks very different.

L.A.B.’s customization program is useful for picking the best alignment aid, but it can do only so much.

The VZN.1i combats this through its shaping and sole. The new sole design wants to sit exactly how you place it on the green. Further, the square cutout in the back and sharp angles have give you reference points to make sure you’re aiming where you want to.

And when you are sure you’re lined up well, you’re going to make a better putt.

The new deeper milled insert provides a slightly more muted sound, while still feeling firm and fast off the face.

After a buzzy, nearly two-month pre-seeding on global tours, Titleist is pulling back the cover on its latest metalwoods.

The company is announcing its new GTS2, 3 and 4 drivers along with GTS2 and 3 fairway woods, the most adjustable club line ever from Titleist, thanks to increased use of Titleist’s Proprietary Matrix Polymer construction.

“When we talk about driver design, it’s never about the one feature or benefit — it’s about all of them,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Titleist’s senior director of metalwood R&D, said in a release. “Ball speed, forgiveness, spin stability, adjustability, exceptional sound and feel … these are all attributes that golfers care about. It’s our job to design a lineup that elevates performance across the board without sacrificing in key areas, and we feel we’ve done that with GTS.”

Building on the “Generational Technology” from the previous generation of GT metalwoods, the “S” in GTS adds “Speed” and “Stability” to the mix.

The drivers launched on the PGA Tour at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March and have been gamed by more than 50 players, including Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. The fairway woods launched at the RBC Heritage and Cameron Young quickly added a GTS3 7-wood to his bag. Previously, there was no “3” 7-wood.

What’s new with Titleist GTS metalwoods — and why you should care

Splitting it up

Titleist’s GT drivers introduced the company’s Proprietary Matrix Polymer for the crown of the driver. For GTS, Titleist leveraged the material to make up 60 percent of the driver’s surface, dramatically removing weight from the middle of the head.

Despite taking up 60 percent of the surface area, the PMP material takes up just 13 percent of the driver’s mass, allowing designers to re-allocate that mass to the front and back of the head.

“We’ve essentially been able to evaporate the midsection of the head,” Lutrell told GOLF.com. “What it’s allowed us to do is take 40 grams of titanium mass out, and now we’ve got almost 30 grams at our fingertips. In an engineering world, the more discretionary mass we have, the more we can leverage it to improve performance.”

That extra mass was split between the back of the head to increase stability and low and forward to boost speed and launch dynamics.

The split mass construction gives the GTS drivers the ability to hit both inertia targets and ideal CG positions for each head.

Syncing up speed

To add the “speed” component of GTS, Luttrell and the metalwoods team took aim at aerodynamics and the face of the driver.

All three driver heads have new aerodynamic shapes to help reduce drag and get the club to move faster through the air. On GTS2 and GTS3, the tail end of the club is raised to keep airflow closer to the crown.

When it comes to the face, Titleist has morphed the Speed Ring of the previous generation into the new Speed Sync Face construction.

With Speed Sync, the top of the speed ring has been removed, allowing the top of the face to flex more. This is important because as driver faces have gotten taller, players have responded by hitting the ball higher up on the face.

Speed Sync gets more ball speed out of those high face strikes while also preserving spin retention. The technology is one of the things that allowed the GTS4 to become a much more playable product this generation because of the strike variability introduced by low-spin heads.

The Spin Sync Face is tuned to each head to maximize performance for the unique head shapes.

More adjustable (and fittable) than ever

With the ability to precisely control CG positions in each head, Titleist has created a CG spectrum in which none of the drivers overlap. Each driver now has the ability to move CG forward and aft for the first time.

With the heavyweight in the rear, the GTS2 is the most stable and highest launching driver in the lineup, as in years past. While moving the heavyweight to the forward position moves up the CG position, increasing speed and lowering spin, it doesn’t meet the CG position of the GTS3 with its heavyweight in the rear position.

The same line of demarcation exists between the GTS3 in the forward position and the GTS4 in the rear position. This allows the lineup to fill in all the gray areas of where the CG needs to fall for a player to perform best.

“CG depth is a fitting tool, and it’s a tool that allows us to manipulate launch and spin characteristics as well as dynamic closure for players,” Luttrell said. “The more customization we can provide with CG, the more opportunity we have to unlock performance for players and better fit their unique needs.”

The heel-to-toe adjustable weight track from last year’s GT3 returns to the GTS3 and was added to the GTS4 to add more customization options. While the GTS2 has two adjustable front and back flat weights, fitters can also change the weight in the tracks on GTS3 and GTS4 to move CG forward and aft.

GTS4 has also become a much more useful fitting tool, having been increased in size to 460 cc. Now players can still get the low spin and forward CG performance from the “4” model, but they don’t have trade forgiveness. Luttrell said the new “4” is just as forgiving as the GT3.

All the drivers will come stock with the heavyweight forward, the fastest position, to help win ball-speed battles against other stock drivers, with the goal of a fitting dialing in the proper CG location.

Brighter face = better strike

The GTS fairway wood line also benefits from an increased use of composite material in the crown that wraps around the sides of the clubhead.

There are two distinct shapes, with the GTS2 being a choice for players who like shallower-faced fairway woods like the last generation’s GT1 fairway wood, which proved popular on the PGA Tour. The GTS3 is both more compact and has a deeper face.

But the most striking difference is the new high-polish silver faces on the fairway woods, which are designed to promote the player covering the ball more effectively. The silver face appears to show more loft to most players.

This was something derived from Titleist Senior Director of Player Promotions J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, who brought prototype GT fairway woods on Tour with silver faces to see how they’d perform. Cameron Young is using a prototype GT1 3Tour 3-wood with a silver face.

“J.J. brought out silver-faced prototypes on tour, and they had a real impact on how some players delivered the club,” Luttrell said. “When they saw more loft, they started hitting down on the ball more and just struck it better overall.”

The GTS Metalwood lineup

There are three driver models (2, 3 and 4) and two fairway wood models (2 and 3) in the GTS lineup.

GTS2 Driver

What is it: The deepest CG driver in the lineup that is the most stable. From the previous generation, the GTS2 gains CG adjustability through the use of both a front and back adjustable flat weight.

Available lofts: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0 (RH/LH)

Who it’s for: Players seeking the most forgiving model out of the box and the highest launching. Golfers who have typically fit into traditional “max” heads will likely find their fit here with something in the rear weight configuration.

GTS3 Driver

What is it: The GTS3 gains a rear flat weight to help dial in CG location in conjunction with the adjustable forward heel-toe CG track. As in years past, the 3 model offers a more compact shape and deeper face compared to the GTS2 and still has heel-to-toe CG adjustability. The GTS3 offers a front-to-back CG location in between what can be achieved by GTS2 or GTS4.

Available lofts: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0 (RH/LH)

Who it’s for: Players who want a lower-spinning, precise driver off the tee and perform best with a middle-CG location.

GTS4 Driver

What is it: The lowest-spinning and fastest driver in the lineup has been completely redesigned and increased in size to 460 cc to add forgiveness. It still offers the most forward CG of any Titleist driver and gains the adjustable heel-to-toe CG track of the “3” model. Like the GTS3, front-to-back CG can be adjusted using the rear flat weight and the forward CG track. The new, larger shape is designed to look similar to the TSi3 from 2020.

Available lofts: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 (RH/LH)

Who it’s for: Players who need maxium spin reduction but who do not want to trade forgiveness to get it.

GTS2 Fairway

What is it: The shallowest and largest profile fairway wood, the GTS2 is designed to launch easily from the turf. This model gains heel-to-toe CG adjustability in the form of two flat weights on the sole. The stock configuration is an 11 g weight in the heel and a 5 g weight in the toe. There is a 13.5-degree model, which is larger and retains a deeper face for better tee performance.

Available lofts: 13.5, 15.0, 16.5, 18.0, 21.0

Who it’s for: Players with shallower deliveries and who want the best performance from the fairway.

GTS3 Fairway

What is it: The GTS3 is a distinctly deeper-faced and more compact profile than GTS2. The CG track from the previous generation has been replaced bt two adjustable flat weights on the sole. The stock configuration is an 11 g weight in the heel and a 5 g weight in the toe. For the first time, the “3” model is being offered in a 21-degree 7-wood loft.

Available lofts: 15.0, 16.5, 18.0, 21.0

Who it’s for: Players with steeper deliveries and who prioritize off-the-tee performance with their fairway woods.

My take: Titleist is pushing performance in every direction

Titleist was already the category leader in drivers on the PGA Tour when they discounted their lineup by $200 earlier this year, just after every other OEM’s driver launch.
Golfers enjoyed a steal picking up GT drivers for that price.

Still, with the gains made from the new GTS line, those bargain-hunters might feel left out.

Titleist took an outstanding platform and made it better in every meaningful way. GT was just as fast as anything else on the market, despite being available for more than a year. During my fitting, GTS was noticeably faster for me.

All GT drivers already had adjustable weighting to change swing weight with two models offering CG adjustment. Now all of the models have adjustable CG and two of the three can move it heel to toe.

I’ve historically struggled with drivers with a rearward CG, despite my goal to gain more stability with my driver. But during my fitting, I found great success with a GTS3 back-weighted but adding a touch of weight forward. By having mass concentrated in both the rear and forward, I was able to get the stability I needed while also feeling weight forward that I’m used to. In this setup, I was basically hitting balls into a bucket down range while not having to toe bias the club, as I typically have to do with my drivers.

With GTS, the fitting combinations are outstanding, and it truly makes it a platform that can be fit to almost anyone. When you see a club pick up as much conversion as it has on Tour, in the middle of major-championship season, there’s obviously something good happening there.

Titleist was so excited to bring this driver out that they moved the launch up months because they knew they had something. Now they get to benefit from launching the newest driver on the market just as we hit the summer season, when golfers want to buy clubs.

Tour Edge is getting into the hottest golf club category.

The company announced its new Exotics Mini Driver, giving the brand’s fans a new secondary tee option to complement the revamped Exotics lineup.

“While the initial goal was to enhance control and versatility in the long game, Combo Brazing ultimately drove measurable gains in ball speed and distance within the mini driver category,” Tour Edge Vice President of R&D, Matt Neeley, said in a press release. “In robot testing, we’ve documented higher ball speeds, higher launch, reduced spin and increased carry and total distance compared to leading models.”

What’s actually new with Tour Edge Mini Driver — and why you should care

The Exotics Mini Driver takes lots of the technology introduced in the revamped 2025 Exotics line and creates a new addition that gives players another option at the top end of the bag.

It features the company’s proprietary Combo Brazing construction to deliver efficient energy transfer and fast ball speeds and the Pyramid Face Technology to support consistent speeds across the face.

The titanium face with steel body construction and multi-material crown helps increase MOI by allocating as much mass as possible toward the perimeter. The club also has a 13g rear fixed weight for even more stability.

At 280 cc, the Exotics Mini Driver checks in on the smaller side for the category, which is something that was intentional by Tour Edge to make the club more versatile from the tee and fairway.

“We designed the Mini to be about five millimeters shallower than other mini drivers on the market,” Tour Edge CEO David Glod said. “That change improves playability off the deck. From a clean fairway lie, it can function as a strong 3-wood alternative while still providing control off the tee.”

Now, with founder Roger Cleveland returning to the company last year, Cleveland is giving today’s generation of golfers the chance to experience the legendary wedge design with the release of the Limited Edition 588 Tour Action Wedge set.

“From the very beginning, the 588 was built around feedback from the best players in the world,” Cleveland said in a release. “For this release, we stayed true to the original shaping and turf interaction that made it special, while integrating modern materials and technologies inside the club. It’s the same trusted look and performance, refined for today’s game.”

Released in May of 1988 (hence the 588 name), Cleveland’s 588 wedge instantly became the standard for shaping, turf interaction and performance for the modern wedge. The wedge went on to notch hundreds of professional victories and dozens of major championships.

Earlier this year, the Cleveland/Srixon Tour team began seeding Cleveland RTZ prototypes to pros with the distinctive 588 Wide sole design and offset profile, the first wedges Cleveland helped influence since his return to the company in early 2025.

“The 588 has always meant something special to me because of how golfers embraced it,” Cleveland said. “Seeing players build real trust in that wedge, leaning on it in the moments that matter most was unforgettable. And now a new generation will have a chance to experience that too.”

The new edition of the 588 retains the original’s shaping and distinctive chrome finish, with the Cleveland brand mark stamped on the sole. But the modern touches include the use of Cleveland’s new Z-Alloy material, which debuted in the RTZ line, along with ZipCore, HydraZip, UltiZip grooves and Rotex Face Milling to boost the original design.

The wedges are part of the three-piece, boxed set, which includes a 52˚, 56˚ and 60˚ wedge. Each wedge is ground and finished to Cleveland’s specification and presented in a premium collector’s box, and includes a brushed brass plaque. Only 588 sets will be available.

The wait is finally over for McLaren’s first golf clubs.

The supercar maker and F1 racing team officially kicked off its new venture Wednesday evening at a launch party tied to this week’s Cadillac Championship and concurrent Miami Grand Prix by announcing its first two sets of golf clubs: the McLaren Golf Series 1 and Series 3 irons.

“We’ve been working toward this moment for some time and there’s a real sense of anticipation in seeing it all come to life,” McLaren Golf CEO Neil Howie said in a release. “Behind the scenes, we challenged every part of the process — from materials to construction — to uphold the exacting standards and constant pursuit of excellence that define McLaren. To now introduce these irons to the world and see them in the hands of golfers is incredibly exciting.”

Justin Rose, McLaren’s first global ambassador and investor, will debut the irons this week at the Cadillac Championship.

What’s actually new with McLaren Golf Series 1 and 3 Irons — and why you should care

All in on MIM

To deliver on its precision-first approach, the company’s inaugural iron designs are built entirely around Metal Injection Molding (MIM). MIMing has gained traction in golf-equipment manufacturing over the past decade, allowing designers to create more complex internal geometries and achieve tighter tolerances than traditional forging or casting.

In the past, other companies have used the technology — which, as the name describes, involves injecting powdered metal into a mold to create a structure — in putters, wedges and interchangeable weights.

It also enables the use of a proprietary steel developed from a blended powdered material.

“We were focused on creating a material that was soft and felt really good, while still meeting our performance targets—and I think we hit the mark,” Ryan Badgero, McLaren’s director of engineering, told GOLF.

That material debuts in McLaren’s first two models: the Series 1 and Series 3 irons.

Both feature a structural mesh on the back of each clubhead, adding support while trimming roughly 2–3 grams of mass. That may not sound like much, but in club design, every gram counts. The mesh is also a callback to McLaren’s roots in car design, as the pattern mimics similar structures on McLaren Automotive’s supercars like the GTS and 750S.

“We’re able to MIM this mesh directly into the head, then redistribute that saved weight to tune CG and increase MOI,” Badgero said. “At the same time, it provides structural support, allowing us to go thinner in certain areas while maintaining integrity. It’s really a two-in-one feature.”

That discretionary mass is reallocated into tungsten weighting to create a progressive vertical CG — helping long irons launch higher while making short irons easier to flight.

A playable blade

The Series 1 takes on a traditional muscle-back profile aimed at better players and tour pros. With weight savings from the mesh, the club incorporates a silicone dampening system to enhance feel, as well as tungsten weighting.

Tungsten placement shifts the CG progressively from low to high through the set, and also from heel to toe. Paired with a progressive offset package, the long irons are designed to guard against a right miss, while the short irons remain neutral.

The specs show the offset jumping nearly a full millimeter between the 8- and 7-irons, and then jumps another 1.2 mm from the 6-iron to the 5-iron. Everywhere else, the progression is roughly .1 to .2 mm. This was done from direct feedback in working with Rose.

“One of the key pieces of feedback was that players hate seeing that right miss in the long irons,” said JP Harrington, McLaren’s senior design manager for irons and wedges. “CG placement and offset work together to help square the face more easily and prevent that leak.”

A flat sole promotes versatility and shot-shaping for more skilled players.

Supercharging players distance

The larger, more forgiving Series 3 fits into the performance cavity-back category.

Here, the mesh and tungsten remain, but the mass is concentrated more centrally. That’s achieved through a carbon-fiber bonnet housing a tungsten weight, along with a smaller toe weight.

The central piece doubles as a calibration weight, allowing McLaren to fine-tune head weights to extremely tight tolerances while also offering a lighter head option.

“Because it’s stacked on the center of gravity — we designed it to hit specific CG coordinates — adding weight there doesn’t shift it,” Harrington said. “So from the lighter B head to the standard A head, the CG remains constant.”

The Series 3 sole features added camber and pronounced heel relief to improve turf interaction and forgiveness.

With a more traditional offset progression—similar to the Series 1 in the long irons—the Series 3 could also serve as a long-iron replacement within a blended set. In fact, both the 3- and 4-irons feature the same loft and offset as the Series 1, while the Series 3 5-iron has the strong loft but matching offset. A 5-iron bent weak to match the Series 1 lofts would actually have less offset.

Justin Rose plans to at use a Series 3 4-iron in competition and potentially a Series 3 5-iron as well.

The McLaren Golf iron lineup

Series 1

What is it: A traditional muscle-back shaping with a flat sole for ease of shot shaping. The iron has been enhanced through progressive CG moving from low-to-high and heel to center from the long irons to the short irons and a progressive offset package to help mitigate right misses with long irons.

Who it’s for: High precision ball strikers who want more speed and stability than a traditional forged muscle-back.

Series 3

What is it: McLaren calls this iron a “performance cavity-back” in the players distance category. The Series 3 features utilize an internal toe weight, and another enclosed in a central carbon fiber bonet to center the CG within the head and allow for an A and B weight head.

Who it’s for: A wide range of player abilities, from mid-level ball strikers looking to gain more speed or a better players looking for a long iron replacement.

My take: Golf clubs engineered by a racing team

If you had asked me to picture the irons a supercar or F1 team would produce, they would look a lot like these.

These are golf clubs you specifically get if you’re looking to get maximum performance, just like the McLaren F1 team demands from their cars on a race day.

It shouldn’t be surprising that the R&D and leadership teams of McLaren could translate their expertise and design golf clubs in a way that they haven’t before.

Thanks to the MIM construction process, both the Series 1 and Series 3 irons take a trend we’ve started to see in the equipment space by making irons that play like the category above them. For instance, the Series 1 irons are playable to the point where more than just traditional blade players might be able to game them, and the Series 3 irons are going to have the forgiveness and speed of something in the players’ distance category while looking more like a traditional cavity back.

As you’d expect from a supercar company, neither of these irons is shy of speed.

Rose’s fingerprints are all over the Series 1 with the progressive CG and offset to help reduce his right-miss tendency.

Series 3 is something that really intrigues me, and I could see landing in my bag.

McLaren is making a big statement in the golf space that should bring new ideas and innovation. The obvious next step would be Series 2 irons, but as Rose teased earlier this week, eventually there will be a whole bag of McLaren clubs from which to choose.

Odyssey is making a major push in the premium putter space.

After gaining traction on Tour over the past several months, Odyssey is releasing the first models of its Damascus Milled putter lineup in a limited drop in the No. 7 shape. The putters feature Damascus Steel inserts and sole plates, with each one having a unique pattern.

“Damascus Steel is a beautiful material, and the patterns tell the story, because every one is different,” Odyssey General Manager Jacob Davidson said in a release. “But what stands out is that, as beautiful as these putters are, the feedback from Tour has been the exceptional feel of these putters. We wanted to deliver the most premium performance-driven putter we’ve ever done at Odyssey. When you look at this product, we have so much confidence because there is not one thing we’d do different. On this one, we really took our time over the last couple years to try to perfect the design.”

Damascus Milled putters have already been used by numerous players on the PGA Tour since their introduction at the Cognizant Classic.

The first extremely limited drop of Damascus Milled putters will feature the popular No. 7 shape in both single-bend and crank hosel configurations.

Looks good, putts better

Damascus steel is known throughout the high-end boutique putter world for offering a unique pattern in every piece, as well as a remarkably soft, yet responsive feel. The material is created by layering 61 sheets of two different types of steel, one softer and the other firmer, before it’s rolled, pressed, cut and then twisted to create the one-of-a-kind patterns.

The back of the insert is then engineered with Ai-countours to promote consistent ball speeds across the milled face. So not only do these putters offer a premium and unique look, but they also perform up to the expectations of Tour pros.

“One of the big pieces of feedback that we’ve gotten from Tour time and time again is that a milled putter needs to be loud, it needs to feel firm enough, it needs to be solid enough,” Odyssey putter R&D director Eric Stubben said. “We wanted to create something a touch firmer and a touch louder, and as we look back at things we’d done in the past, Damascus kept coming up as something that is premium and a little on the firmer side.”

While Odyssey is known as an insert company, almost all of their releases, including the recent Ai-One Milled lines, have inserts going for a softer feel. This release offers something different.

Not only does the insert feature the high-end material, but also the sole plates, ensuring that no two putters in the drop look alike.

More to come

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Odyssey jump into the Damascus material space, but it might be the most premium-looking attempt and it seems like it won’t be the last.

We’ve seen more models of the Damascus Milled line out on the PGA Tour, and Odyssey is wording this release of the two No. 7 models as the first of “limited drops,” implying that more are on the way.

My take: Odyssey is making a premium push

Gone are the days when Odyssey putters were simply your cheapest option.

Lately, the company has seemed willing to take risks in the name of innovation to shed the stereotype of just being the easiest putter you can find. They’ve always been at the forefront of innovation and ranked high in market usage, but oftentimes, their price points could give the illusion that their putters weren’t necessarily premium.

While the Tri-Hot releases showed they can innovate with the best putters on the market, this Damascus release does something different.

In a world of custom-milled Scotty Camerons, Bettinardis, Ping PLDs and more one-off designers like Logan Olson and Tyson Lamb, Odyssey is showing they can compete in that space too, of creating pieces of art for the greens.

They’re also showing they can do it with the huge R&D arm of one of the biggest golf companies in the world.

To me, Odyssey’s Damascus Milled line signals a shift for the brand and the market as a whole toward a premium focus. This is certainly something consumers ask for, but at a nearly $700 price point, it will be worth watching if Odyssey’s consumer base actually buys.

Overall, these are going to be highly sought-after putters, so if you have the opportunity to buy one, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Bettinardi’s Antidote line is joining the ever-growing ranks of traditional-looking low-torque putters.

The company announced two new additions to its popular Antidote “Zero-Torque” line: the limited-release Hexperimental #7 and #9 putters.

“Simply Balanced™ over the last 18 months has been our most talked-about putter tech, but it’s only ever been available in center-shaft,” Bettinardi Golf President Sam Bettinardi said in a release. “The Hexperimental #7 and #9 opens that up to more players, with the same zero-torque advantage, on a design they are most familiar looking down at.”

The #7 is a compact mid-mallet, while the #9 is a wide-body blade with a high toe. Both models were teased with prototype versions on the PGA Tour, debuting at the Cognizant Classic.

What’s actually new with Bettinardi Antidote Hexperimental putters — and why you should care

Bettinardi was one of the first legacy manufacturers to enter the U.S. low-torque market after L.A.B. Golf with its Antidote SB1 and SB2 back in the fall of 2024, and since then two more models have joined the family. But all have been center-shafted.

With the new Hexperimental putters, Bettinardi offers perhaps one of the most traditional-looking hosels for a low-torque putter by utilizing a long neck design.

Instead of being moved in front of the neck, as in a traditional plumber’s neck, the shaft enters the middle of the neck on the Herperimentals and is then oriented through the center of gravity of the putter.

Like the rest of the Antidote line, the Hexperimental additions will feature the company’s F.I.T. face, which removes 30 percent of the face material for a soft and responsive feel at impact.

In a departure from the rest of the Antidote lineup, both Antidote Hexperimental putters are finished with a Black Armour TPT on the topline and flange and have distressed blue accents on the face and sole.

What is it: A compact mid-mallet shape with a rear window designed to push mass out to the perimeter and increase stability. A unique long-neck design gives the putter toe-up properties to stay square through the putting stroke.

Who it’s for: Players who have resisted low-torque putters because of center-shafted designs and want the alignment and forgiveness benefits of a mallet.

Hexperimental #9

What is it: A traditional high-toe wide-body blade with squared off angles and asymmetrical shape. A unique long-neck design gives the putter toe-up properties to stay square through the putting stroke.

Who it’s for: Players who want the most traditional look in a low-torque putter.

My take: Low-torque putters are evolving

A year ago, no putter from a major OEM offered you both a heel-shafted design and low-torque, but that’s all changed quickly.

In what is seemingly the next frontier of low-torque putters, everyone seems to be rushing to debut an option that appeals to those who have thus far eschewed the category.

Bettinardi is a brand that prioritizes looks and feels, something that often gets forgotten in other low-torque offerings and that’s clearly evident here. From a looks standpoint, these might instantly become some of the most visually appealing low-torque putters from any angle.

The low-torque putter space is often divisive, but I wouldn’t be shocked to find people discover these Hexperimental putters, rolling them, then realizing they are low-torque.

I’m interested to get my hands on one of these, especially the #9, as I’ve recently stopped using a low-torque putter, but with a more traditional release, could these pull me back in? They certainly look the part.
