Golfers are naturally curious creatures. Whether you’re teeing it up with the usual suspects or getting paired with complete strangers, we all do a little scan of our playing partners on the first tee to see what clothes, shoes, bags and, of course, equipment they’re gaming.

And lately, one driver has been showing up more and more: the Titleist GTS2.

Back in March, Titleist introduced its new GTS driver lineup—GTS1, GTS2, GTS3, and GTS4—and it didn’t take long for it to make its way into the bags of Tour pros. Within days of launch, 24 PGA Tour players had already put a GTS model in play for that week’s event. And it wasn’t long before amateurs followed suit.

Since hitting the market, the GTS2 has quickly become a favorite for both Tour players and everyday golfers—even becoming Fairway Jockey’s best-selling driver in June. And once you look under the hood, it’s not hard to understand the appeal.

Distance and forgiveness working together

No matter how skilled you are, every golfer misses the center of the face from time to time. On a typical mishit, you usually pay for it in either distance or direction—sometimes both.

But with Titleist’s Split Mass Frame, off-center strikes don’t hurt nearly as much.

Built with a full thermoform body, the Split Mass Frame moves weight both back and forward in the head. The rear weight increases stability and helps the face resist twisting at impact, while the forward weight helps players maintain ball speed—even when you don’t catch it perfectly.

The result is a driver that’s easier to launch, feels more stable at impact and flies a little farther while staying on your intended line.

Boost speed without trying

According to Titleist, the GTS2 continues their focus on smarter shaping and aerodynamic design. The pronounced raised tail helps the clubhead move through the air with less resistance, generating more speed during your swing and delivering maximum speed at impact. Put simply, it’s engineered to help the head move faster without you having to swing any harder.

Dual weighting for maximum customization

Like most modern drivers, the GTS2 features adjustable weighting that allows you—or a fitter—to dial in the center of gravity to match your swing. However, there’s one key difference compared to Titleist’s previous GT lineup: a dual-weighting system.

In addition to the rear weight, the GTS2 also allows adjustment in the front, giving you more control over your driving performance. When properly dialed in, this setup can help optimize speed and distance for your swing.

It’s easy to see why the GTS2 has quickly earned its spot in so many bags. With Titleist’s top-of-the-line technology, this driver delivers a rare mix of distance, forgiveness and adjustability that shows up when it matters most.

To this end, we assembled six GOLF content creators of varying abilities and ran them through the gauntlet of six full-bag fittings (driver to putter!) at six major club manufacturers in Phoenix and Carlsbad, Calif. Our hope: that you might see shades of your own game in one of our panelists’ and take some learnings and inspiration from their fitting experiences.
During the course of Fully Fit, I walked away with a few drivers that I really liked. TaylorMade, Callaway, and Cobra all came out swingin’ hard and it was actually difficult to tell the difference between them all on the course.

I ended up picking the Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond because it was constantly faster than the rest of the bunch. Unfortunately, between swing changes, lack of play, and some lack of mental fortitude, everything started to fall apart. I wouldn’t have been able to hit the 18th fairway at St. Andrews’ Old Course, let alone a tight tree-lined fairway here at home, regardless of the driver.

I needed to rebuild.

In this case it means looking at all options again. I even went back to the TaylorMade and Cobra builds that I had also used successfully, including breaking par for my first time with the Qi4D. Nothing worked.

Thankfully, Titleist moved up their driver release this year, and my man Hunter over at TPI got me sorted out.

I walked in with zero confidence in my ability to hit the ball off the tee, and I walked out of that fitting wanting to play more golf. I started to play some really, really good golf, too.

My handicap at the end of last year jumped up to a 1 from +.3 and was trending even worse until the GTS3 got put in the bag. It’s now sitting back at +.3, and I feel like I am playing some of the most confident golf of my life. The GTS3 made me feel completely invincible off the tee. In the moment, and for several weeks afterwards, it was easily the best driver I hit this year.

So naturally, about a week ago, I decided to try out a new driver.

Turns out the greatest gift that Hunter actually gave me was my confidence back. I’ve now gone back to the TaylorMade and the Cobra with much success, and I’m currently in the Qi4D with a new prototype from Mitsubishi that I can’t talk about just yet, but it has an orange band on it.

As a Callaway driver player for the last decade, it’s a weird feeling to not have one in the bag now, but it just proves why getting fit is important, why on-course testing is king and even more not making something work knowing you aren’t at your best. Obviously I will always keep it close but in times like this I need to re-turn over every stone, just my process.

The truth is, there’s no end to this story quite yet. I really thought the GTS3 was it. But the success of the GTS3 sort of created its own rival monster in that it gave me all the confidence back that I needed to play better, and now other things are really good again. This Qi4D combination could be deadly. So rather than answering as to what has made the official bag, I’ll leave you with the plan I have to tackle the decision.

Arccos just released a new update to their app that allows you to compare different clubs’ performance. I am going on a golf trip this week, and I am going to be playing the same course a few times, so we’ve got a perfect storm.

The plan is to bring the GTS3 and the Qi4D builds with me, and alternate them every round for 4 rounds. After that, it’s straight to the Arccos stats, and I’m going to let Arccos tell me what to do. Right now, one of the drivers has a clear lead, but I haven’t hit the same number of shots with both clubs.

By the end of this, I only care about one thing: which one helps me score better. Arccos measures TONS of data, so there will be plenty to dive into.

Here’s what I know for sure. There are multiple great drivers out there for every golfer. This is the best driver market we’ve ever had, and I feel like it’s going to continue to stay that way for a while to come.

We won’t see a new Titleist or TaylorMade til 2028. Ping is set to release a new lineup in 2027, along with Callaway and Cobra, and even Mizuno and Wilson have come out swinging this year with options that I have played on course with plenty of success as well.

It’s the best time to be in the market for a new driver. The only mandatory action you have to take is to make sure that you get fit, and then back that fit up with on-course experience.

Srixon has photos of three models in the new ZXi RKT family. The LS appears to be a nice compact pear shape that players love with two adjustable weights from front to back for launch and spin control.

The ZXi RKT (core) has two weights this time around for heel-to-toe CG movement, and would presumably be the most fittable model in the lineup, which is a trend we’re starting to see from more and more OEMs. Interestingly, they don’t have a back weight in this model, though. They might be using the “chassis” as a fixed weight in the back that allows for an MOI number they may be chasing that then stays consistent regardless of weight movement from the toe and heel positions. We’ll have to keep an eye on the information for that!

ZXi RKT MAX only has one weight port in the very back, which would make me guess that it’s built for stability and ease of launch. This is a pretty standard three-model lineup, but there are some significant changes compared to the last generation of Srixon drivers.

2) There’s a lot they can do with that much carbon fiber

Thanks to more carbon fiber the new RKT shape (left) looks much more “player focused” and the new weighting is even more adjustable and more stable that the previous generation (right).

              Srixon Golf

Compared to the last generation product, there’s a significant increase in carbon fiber. Combined with each model getting a lovely new “player’s” shape, this allows them to improve their adjustable weighting. You’ll notice that the weights themselves are pushed further out to the edges on each model, which allows for great CG changes and more stability regardless of final weight setting. Having the carbon fiber take over on the sole allows that weight to be moved to the edges for a higher overall MOI value.

Carbon fiber unlocking more stability? Great. Carbon fiber unlocking stability and what looks to be the best Srixon driver shape ever? Phenomenal.

3) They’re addressing the big complaint

Srixon appears to have acknowledged the sound problem from the last generation with their new Acousticore tech.

              Srixon Golf

It’s safe to say that the one universal complaint or criticism of the Srixon ZXi driver lineup was the sound. Most of the guys on tour are hotmelting the heads to address this, but the retail consumer doesn’t get that benefit. The ZXi stuff was a bit more high-pitched than I think most people would want, and it felt a bit firm off the face, thanks to that louder, harsher noise. It was by no means a Nike Sumo, but compared to the increase in carbon fiber and an overall dampening of noise from other OEMs, it really stood out.

If you look closely at the photos, there’s a marking on the sole that says “Acousticore”. One can only assume, and hope, that this means they have specifically targeted the sound and feel of these drivers and that they’ve passed through player testing with flying colors.

4) (BONUS) They’re still rockin’ hard for their guys on Tour.

We’ve also found four more models from Srixon on the conforming list. These line up with similarly named models in the past that were created specifically for certain tour players. Hideki Matsuyama and Shane usually get something with a little bit of tour sauce, and I’d be shocked if one of these wasn’t for Ryan Fox or Sepp Straka. Maybe something in here is trying to bring a Srixon driver into the bag for JJ Spaun as well.

Two years ago, Titleist launched its GT series of drivers, and the lineup was received extremely well. This year’s GTS drivers take it to another level.

GT exploded on the PGA Tour, it won a bunch of tournaments, and the general sentiment was that Titleist was back to being serious about having a lineup of drivers aimed at the true player. No compromises, no frills, just a great lineup of drivers that, if nothing else, were very, very fast. It seemed like everybody was jumping into the GT family.

That is, except for me.

I never really got along with GT. I had a great fitting at TPI with Hunter, but with no options to bring the weight back in the head on the GT3, and not finding the right feel for the GT2, I was left on an island. It would be obvious to say that the addition of the rear weight in the new GTS3 is what finally sold me back to a Titleist driver, but after testing I actually found out that there’s another hidden feature that could be playing an even bigger role.

Behind the face of the GTS lineup of drivers is a welded ring that Titleist calls their Speed Sync face. This is an evolution of the Speed Ring that was part of the magic behind the success of the GT lineup of drivers.

What they’ve done with Speed Sync, though, is actually opened up the top of the ring to create more of a horseshoe shape. This opening at the top allows the top of the face to continue to flex and promote faster ball speeds in what’s typically one of the slower parts of the face. It also gives the drivers a great deal of spin consistency, which you’ll see reflected in some of the reactions that Titleist Senior Director of Metalwood R&D Stephanie Luttrell and I had in the above video.

              Titleist’s Speed Sync Face

              Titleist

I tend to live higher on the face with my strike, and it’s something I’ve become accustomed to building my drivers around. Now, when I say “high,” we’re talking a couple of millimeters, but the issue is that as an already low-spin player, going high in the face can sometimes cause a drastic reduction in spin. More so than what you would see with the average player.

I’m already on the edge and going up high in the face, on the wrong driver, can be devastating. And that was the case with the Titleist GT. The GT series had such a forward CG and a lower MOI measurement compared to others that anything that made those attributes stand out more, like hitting high on the face or out towards the toe, was going to hurt my performance potential.

With Speed Sync on the Titleist GTS, that entire issue was thrown out the window. It did still drop spin a touch, but it was actually just a touch. We’re talking maybe 150 rpms of spin, instead of the 200-300 that I was dropping with GT, and the GTS still launched more appropriately with more speed. Having that new horseshoe shape and an open high face created a better environment for my strike and my normal miss.

I’ve had a lot of success with my GTS3 build this year. Hunter, my fitter at TPI, knew exactly what I needed out of the new stick and he was ready to hand me a winner as soon as I parked my car.

We had a blast in the fitting and talking to Steph and the R&D team about everything it took for them to get GTS finally over the finish line was very eye-opening.

It just goes to show that you never really know what’s happening behind closed doors at these companies.
J.T. Poston’s victory at the Memorial came with the new GTS3 driver, which was released on the PGA Tour in March at the Houston Open and became available to the public in mid-May.

Poston added the driver at the Valero Texas Open, the second week it was available for Tour pros, and has kept it in the bag since the Truist Championship last month.

Over the past three months, the GTS line has quickly established itself as one of the most played drivers on the PGA Tour with more than 70 players putting it in the bag and at least 65 now gaming one.

At the Memorial, 18 players in the 72-man field played a GTS driver, which was more than any other brand’s total driver count (16). Poston’s win also came in the same week that world No. 3 Cameron Young added GTS3 and World. 4 and gear free agent Matt Fitzpatrick added GTS2.

Poston’s GTS3 is set up in the stock hosel figuration, A1, and the neutral forward CG track position, but the GTS platform allows numerous changes to CG through the dual weighting system. Titleist was able to move Cameron Young out of his 11-degree GT3 head and into a 10-degree GTS3 head because they could move the CG back by adding weight to the rear. The GT3 did not have that option.

When you find a club that you hit well, best not to question it. What’s that they say about never looking a gift horse in the mouth?

But there’s always something that makes us gear nerds want to overanalyze everything.

And so brings us to the dilemma of GOLF’s Jake Morrow, who, until very recently, was going through some major struggles with the driver. That all changed when he received his new Titleist GTS3 that he was fit for at Titleist’s TPI facility.

It’s a new GTS3 with the Graphite Design Tour AD-FI shaft, which Morrow didn’t really expect to fit into, but it’s turned into a weapon.

“I have an Arccos statement that says that I am now a perfect driver of the golf ball and other things are my problem,” Morrow told his fellow GOLF’s Fully Equipped co-host Johnny Wunder on this week’s episode. “I hit some absolute nukes. There was a couple of references to Walmarts being in between me and my coach on some of those shots.”

There’s just one issue. When Morrow put his new driver on the swingweight scale, it checked in at a hefty D8.

As a gear nerd, Morrow naturally reached out to his fitter, TPI’s Hunter Brown, and wondered if it was still the best driver for him.

“I said, ‘Hey, man, my only issue is it on my scale at home. It came out at D8 and that’s a little aggressive,'” he said. “Now, the conversation and after playing four rounds, if everybody told me not to mess with it, I would leave it how it is and I would be happy. But you can tell that the head’s heavy. The shaft is a little soft, but not like in a bad way. My only gripe was for the first two rounds, everything was a left-to-right ball flight.”

Morrow wanted to take the 5-yard fade he was hitting and make it a 5-yard draw by getting the driver down to D6.

But if he was hitting the driver so well, why even bother with it? That was Wunder’s response.

“You’re chasing perfection. And when you said that you had it at D8, my first instinct was like, so what?” he said. “Like, that’s a number that you care about. It’s not a number that matters to the performance of the driver.”

Morrow was going to ask Brown for a weight kit, but Wunder said he would tell him not to send one. The driver works now, don’t mess with a good thing.

“If he sends me the weights to fix it, then I’ll try it,” Morrow said. “If he doesn’t or they get lost in the mail, then I have what I have and I’ll continue to play it.”

Perhaps this is one of those situations where it would have just been better to simply leave well enough alone.

One of golf’s major OEMs is making a significant change to its business model, and it could have massive repercussions for the entire industry.

TaylorMade announced Friday its Qi4D driver and metalwood line will be extended for a two-year product cycle and the company will move to a two-year product release cadence for its metalwoods moving forward.

“We do think this world is changing,” Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade’s VP of product creation, told GOLF. “We want to change with it, and the experience of getting the right product in your hands and what that means to you as a golfer is really the core of this.”

With the move, TaylorMade becomes the fourth of the six-largest OEMs in the sport to move its metalwoods to a two-year product cycle, joining Ping, Srixon and Titleist. Callaway and Cobra plan on releasing drivers and fairway woods every year.

In an interview with GOLF ahead of Friday’s announcement, Bazzel pointed to four primary factors driving TaylorMade’s decision: the Qi4D’s hot start both in the marketplace and on professional tours, the increasing complexity and lead times of innovation cycles, fitter education and mastery of the product, and changing consumer behavior and trust.

Keeping the golfer’s trust

It wasn’t long ago when TaylorMade released drivers more than once a year. That cadence proved unpopular with consumers, who were wary of buying anything knowing a newer or “better” product could be coming to retail at any moment. Recently, TaylorMade has been much more predictable with its yearly January product launches, but the consumer’s buying patterns have changed.

“People have launch monitors. They’re getting fit. They’re falling in love with what they got fit for,” Bazzel says. “They want to hold on to it a little bit longer, and that’s what the data’s suggesting.”

By moving to a two-year cycle, Bazzel says the consumer can rest assured when they make a purchase during a product launch year, that product is going to be the latest and greatest for a long time.

“They’re forking out a lot of money for this product, and you want them to feel like we validated their purchase,” he says. “I even get a little bit nervous recommending the current product because I know a new one’s coming that’s a little bit better than the last one. That’s not right.”

Pros also aren’t seeking to upgrade as often anymore. Thanks to advances in fitting, Bazzel says TaylorMade is seeing more players want to hang onto their drivers longer because they build trust with the club (like World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, for example, who still plays a Qi10 driver from 2024). That also helps build trust with the brand, since pros won’t be asked to upgrade to the newest models every season.

“If we continue to push the narrative and continue to show just these little jumps, it starts to break down between the story we’re telling and the experience the golfer has,” Bazzel says. “For those who stay on an annual cadence, I think you’re ultimately going to lose trust with the golfer.”

‘Slow down to go faster’

As drivers continue to innovate by getting faster and more forgiving, finding that next innovation frontier is getting harder and taking longer. TaylorMade is already well down the road on what would have been its 2027 product, as well as 2028.

Bazzel says TaylorMade internally introduces new products 2 1/2 years before they actually launch. Then they spend time preparing for the product and selling it at full price for nine months before it’s time to ramp up for the next product.

“That doesn’t seem right,” he says.

A few years ago, that wasn’t as big a deal, as technology was improving rapidly enough to create meaningful performance gains every year. Drivers still get better each year, but more work goes into a smaller incremental gain. Now there’s breathing room between releases.

“I’d be lying to say there isn’t a little bit of a pressure release there,” Bazzel says.

But this isn’t exactly TaylorMade taking its foot off the gas pedal, as Bazzel thinks the two-year cycle will allow the team to try more things.

“Getting on this longer cycle should allow us, and the intent is, to come up with bigger leaps in innovation,” he says. “We can slow down to go faster.”

More time for better fittings

Fittings have become more of a focus in TaylorMade’s strategy, so too has training fitters on the new product. Product education has never been more important than it is with a driver like the Qi4D, which has 128 setting combinations with the stock weights and loft sleeve.

Then there’s the time it takes fitters, especially fitters on the PGA Tour, to actually learn how each part performs and how to fit golfers in real-world situations.

“It’s one thing to explain your technology. It’s another thing for fitters today to get comfortable with the product they have to ensure they get the right one for golfers,” Bazzel says. “Even our best fitters in the world, like our tour reps, it takes them a couple months with players to really get a feel for it.”

Now those fitters will have more time to fit players after they’ve mastered the product, meaning more players are going to truly maximize the driver.

Qi4D accelerated the timeline

This isn’t a decision TaylorMade arrived at overnight. It’s something Bazzel says had been discussed for a long time and the company knew was coming at some point. Although if you had asked him when this was going to happen at the beginning of the year, he might have said 2027.

“The data is what the data is. If you’re really paying attention to what’s happening, you’ve got to consider doing it now,” he says. “The Qi4D getting off to a great start 100 percent accelerated our ability to feel comfortable to kind of make that decision now as opposed to waiting a year.”

Buoyed by strong adoption by TaylorMade pros Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Nelly Korda and many non-staffers, the Qi4D has been TaylorMade’s best-selling driver in years. And in the first four months of 2026, the Qi4D drivers are the No. 1-selling driver family on Fairway Jockey. Bazzel says their data shows the Qi4D as the top driver in the global marketplace.

My take: A long time coming

Golf gear has never been in a better spot, but that also means any performance gains are getting smaller as things get closer and closer to maxing out. TaylorMade realized, especially with the success of the Qi4D, there’s little reason to come out with a driver that’s marginally better when it can instead spend an extra year focusing on the next cycle.

It also makes switching to the latest gear much easier on TaylorMade staffers on tour. Pros prioritize the comfort they’ve developed with a club over a marginal performance gain. A two-year cycle gives TaylorMade an opportunity to not just build something that’s better — but to create something significantly better.

Lastly, with TaylorMade moving to the multi-year cadence, that leaves just Callaway and Cobra as the industry’s lone single-year release cycles. Will it stay this way for long? We’ll have to wait and find out.

After a buzzy, nearly two-month pre-seeding on global tours, Titleist is pulling back the cover on its latest metalwoods.

The company is announcing its new GTS2, 3 and 4 drivers along with GTS2 and 3 fairway woods, the most adjustable club line ever from Titleist, thanks to increased use of Titleist’s Proprietary Matrix Polymer construction.

“When we talk about driver design, it’s never about the one feature or benefit — it’s about all of them,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Titleist’s senior director of metalwood R&D, said in a release. “Ball speed, forgiveness, spin stability, adjustability, exceptional sound and feel … these are all attributes that golfers care about. It’s our job to design a lineup that elevates performance across the board without sacrificing in key areas, and we feel we’ve done that with GTS.”

Building on the “Generational Technology” from the previous generation of GT metalwoods, the “S” in GTS adds “Speed” and “Stability” to the mix.

The drivers launched on the PGA Tour at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March and have been gamed by more than 50 players, including Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. The fairway woods launched at the RBC Heritage and Cameron Young quickly added a GTS3 7-wood to his bag. Previously, there was no “3” 7-wood.

Keep reading below for more on the Titleist GTS Metalwoods, including my take on the release.

What’s new with Titleist GTS metalwoods — and why you should care

Splitting it up

Titleist’s GT drivers introduced the company’s Proprietary Matrix Polymer for the crown of the driver. For GTS, Titleist leveraged the material to make up 60 percent of the driver’s surface, dramatically removing weight from the middle of the head.

Despite taking up 60 percent of the surface area, the PMP material takes up just 13 percent of the driver’s mass, allowing designers to re-allocate that mass to the front and back of the head.

A rendering of the new Split Mass construction.

              Titleist

“We’ve essentially been able to evaporate the midsection of the head,” Lutrell told GOLF.com. “What it’s allowed us to do is take 40 grams of titanium mass out, and now we’ve got almost 30 grams at our fingertips. In an engineering world, the more discretionary mass we have, the more we can leverage it to improve performance.”

That extra mass was split between the back of the head to increase stability and low and forward to boost speed and launch dynamics.

The split mass construction gives the GTS drivers the ability to hit both inertia targets and ideal CG positions for each head.

Syncing up speed

To add the “speed” component of GTS, Luttrell and the metalwoods team took aim at aerodynamics and the face of the driver.

All three driver heads have new aerodynamic shapes to help reduce drag and get the club to move faster through the air. On GTS2 and GTS3, the tail end of the club is raised to keep airflow closer to the crown.

When it comes to the face, Titleist has morphed the Speed Ring of the previous generation into the new Speed Sync Face construction.

A look behind the new Titleist Speed Sync Face.

              Jack Hirsh/GOLF

With Speed Sync, the top of the speed ring has been removed, allowing the top of the face to flex more. This is important because as driver faces have gotten taller, players have responded by hitting the ball higher up on the face.

Speed Sync gets more ball speed out of those high face strikes while also preserving spin retention. The technology is one of the things that allowed the GTS4 to become a much more playable product this generation because of the strike variability introduced by low-spin heads.

The Spin Sync Face is tuned to each head to maximize performance for the unique head shapes.

More adjustable (and fittable) than ever

With the ability to precisely control CG positions in each head, Titleist has created a CG spectrum in which none of the drivers overlap. Each driver now has the ability to move CG forward and aft for the first time.

The GTS2 has adjustable CG for the first time.

              Jack Hirsh/GOLF

With the heavyweight in the rear, the GTS2 is the most stable and highest launching driver in the lineup, as in years past. While moving the heavyweight to the forward position moves up the CG position, increasing speed and lowering spin, it doesn’t meet the CG position of the GTS3 with its heavyweight in the rear position.

The same line of demarcation exists between the GTS3 in the forward position and the GTS4 in the rear position. This allows the lineup to fill in all the gray areas of where the CG needs to fall for a player to perform best.

“CG depth is a fitting tool, and it’s a tool that allows us to manipulate launch and spin characteristics as well as dynamic closure for players,” Luttrell said. “The more customization we can provide with CG, the more opportunity we have to unlock performance for players and better fit their unique needs.”

The heel-to-toe adjustable weight track from last year’s GT3 returns to the GTS3 and was added to the GTS4 to add more customization options. While the GTS2 has two adjustable front and back flat weights, fitters can also change the weight in the tracks on GTS3 and GTS4 to move CG forward and aft.

GTS4 has also become a much more useful fitting tool, having been increased in size to 460 cc. Now players can still get the low spin and forward CG performance from the “4” model, but they don’t have trade forgiveness. Luttrell said the new “4” is just as forgiving as the GT3.

The GTS4 is now up to 460 cc.

All the drivers will come stock with the heavyweight forward, the fastest position, to help win ball-speed battles against other stock drivers, with the goal of a fitting dialing in the proper CG location.

Brighter face = better strike

The GTS fairway wood line also benefits from an increased use of composite material in the crown that wraps around the sides of the clubhead.

There are two distinct shapes, with the GTS2 being a choice for players who like shallower-faced fairway woods like the last generation’s GT1 fairway wood, which proved popular on the PGA Tour. The GTS3 is both more compact and has a deeper face.

But the most striking difference is the new high-polish silver faces on the fairway woods, which are designed to promote the player covering the ball more effectively. The silver face appears to show more loft to most players.

This was something derived from Titleist Senior Director of Player Promotions J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, who brought prototype GT fairway woods on Tour with silver faces to see how they’d perform. Cameron Young is using a prototype GT1 3Tour 3-wood with a silver face.

“J.J. brought out silver-faced prototypes on tour, and they had a real impact on how some players delivered the club,” Luttrell said. “When they saw more loft, they started hitting down on the ball more and just struck it better overall.”

The GTS Metalwood lineup

There are three driver models (2, 3 and 4) and two fairway wood models (2 and 3) in the GTS lineup.

My take: Titleist is pushing performance in every direction

Titleist was already the category leader in drivers on the PGA Tour when they discounted their lineup by $200 earlier this year, just after every other OEM’s driver launch.
Golfers enjoyed a steal picking up GT drivers for that price.

Still, with the gains made from the new GTS line, those bargain-hunters might feel left out.

Titleist took an outstanding platform and made it better in every meaningful way. GT was just as fast as anything else on the market, despite being available for more than a year. During my fitting, GTS was noticeably faster for me.

All GT drivers already had adjustable weighting to change swing weight with two models offering CG adjustment. Now all of the models have adjustable CG and two of the three can move it heel to toe.

I’ve historically struggled with drivers with a rearward CG, despite my goal to gain more stability with my driver. But during my fitting, I found great success with a GTS3 back-weighted but adding a touch of weight forward. By having mass concentrated in both the rear and forward, I was able to get the stability I needed while also feeling weight forward that I’m used to. In this setup, I was basically hitting balls into a bucket down range while not having to toe bias the club, as I typically have to do with my drivers.

With GTS, the fitting combinations are outstanding, and it truly makes it a platform that can be fit to almost anyone. When you see a club pick up as much conversion as it has on Tour, in the middle of major-championship season, there’s obviously something good happening there.

Titleist was so excited to bring this driver out that they moved the launch up months because they knew they had something. Now they get to benefit from launching the newest driver on the market just as we hit the summer season, when golfers want to buy clubs.

Welcome to Fully Equipped’s weekly Tour equipment report. Every Friday of PGA Tour weeks (plus other times, if news warrants), GOLF equipment editor Jack Hirsh runs you through some of the biggest news surrounding golf clubs on Tour, including changes, tweaks and launches.

In what’s a typically quiet week for gear changes this week at the unique team format Zurich Classic, one of Titleist’s new drivers is starting to raise eyebrows — and it’s not the model you’d think.

With a tough spot in the schedule and a different format, the Zurich Classic usually offers a window into the world of gear for some of the PGA Tour’s grinders as they try to take advantage of a rare start. You can check out some of the cool things we spotted last year here.

This year is more of the same, with only a few players making major gear switches. However, there’s one trend involving Titleist’s GTS drivers, which have now been on the Tour for five weeks. It appears the GTS4 will be a bit more than a niche driver in the GTS lineup.

This week, three players put the new “4” model into play, which already outpaces GT4 usage for the entire season. Two different players used the GT4 in one event each this past season, Vince Whaley at the WM Phoenix Open and Thomas Rosenmueller at the Farmers Insurance Open.

For the last several generations, the “4” model has been the most compact driver in the Titleist family, usually clocking in under the maximum 460 cc USGA legal limit at 430 cc or 440 cc. It served a unique purpose as a low-spin option for a player with a negative-angle-of-attack delivery with a driver and presumably very high speed.

In recent years, pros have moved away from more compact low-spin models in favor of more forgiving heads. Slowly and slowly, Titleist’s “4” model has fallen out of favor on the PGA Tour.

That doesn’t make it a bad driver, and it fills a unique niche that simply not many players have needed, similar to the company’s CPO golf ball offerings.

But since the launch five weeks ago, already four players have put the new GTS4 into play, double the usage of the GT3. Zac Blair, Davis Riley and Frankie Capan III all added the driver this week, joining Patrick Cantlay, who debuted it last week at Harbour Town.

We’re still don’t have official details on the new driver from Titleist, but thanks to an interview Riley did with GolfWRX at the Zurich Classic, we know the GTS4 “isn’t quite as small” as the GT4. Whether that means it’s up to 460 cc like the GTS2 and GTS3 remains to be confirmed.

But what is clear is that the GTS4 is now a legitimate option within the Titleist lineup and potentially one that could capture a lot more usage than it has previously. We’ll await the official details for more!

What to watch for the next three weeks

With the addition of next week’s Cadillac Championship, the PGA Tour schedule now has a back-to-back Signature Event in the lead-up to the year’s second major, which is why many bigger names took this week off at the Zurich.

After we saw loads of clubs built specifically for Augusta National in the weeks leading up to the Masters, what might players go for at Aronimink for the PGA Championship?

That work is taking place right now, with many pros taking the week off from New Orleans and several taking next week’s Cadillac Championship in Miami off as well.

As a classic Donald Ross design, Aronimink will challenge players off the tee with numerous well-placed bunkers and likely heavy rough.

Last year’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow saw a craze of 7-woods and 9-woods to deal with the heavy rough. Is it possible we see a similar setup? I would bet so. At Augusta, players used those clubs to create height going into the greens, but in Philadelphia, they’ll need them for versatility.

If the PGA chooses not to grow the rough up, then I could foresee some driving irons being built for the next major, especially with some of the shorter and well-bunkered tee shots on the front nine.

Either way, pros and reps aren’t leaving anything to chance. Those clubs are getting built during this time, so whatever situation arises at Aronimink, a player doesn’t have to vet a new club the week of a major championship.

Ewart, Doug Ghim, Tom Kim and Mac Meissner all added at least one GTS fairway wood … Johnny Keefer and Tom Hoge both added a variation of Scotty Cameron’s Phantom 3 prototype with Keefer going with the 3 and Hoge chosing the 3.2

The KING 3D Printed TOUR irons utilize 3D printing technology to unlock a new realm of performance. Their one of a kind design features the most forgiving blade shape on the market, delivering the forgiveness that aspirational players need, and the sleek looks and soft feel that better players desire.
3D PRINTED STEEL CONSTRUCTION
Each iron is fully 3D printed from 316 stainless steel. 3D printing provides significant advantages over traditional methods of casting and forging, unlocking more design freedom and significant performance improvements.
FORGIVING PLAYERS BLADE SHAPE
3D printing has unlocked new design possibilities, enabling COBRA engineers to create a compact blade shape with the mass properties (high MOI, low CG) of a game improvement iron without sacrificing looks and soft feel that better players demand.
INTERNAL LATTICE STRUCTURE
COBRA took a muscle-back blade shape (similar in size and shape to the KING TOUR iron), and transformed the inside of the blade into a complex internal lattice structure to reduce the weight of the club by 33%. That discretionary weight was repositioned to optimize feel, CG position, and MOI.

This year marks the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and in celebration Callaway Golf has released an entire USA 250 collection including clubs, golf balls and accessories. Let’s dive into some of the details!

Drivers

The USA 250 collection brings the Callaway Quantum Max, Triple Diamond Max and Triple Diamond drivers into the fray. With a red, white, and blue overall color scheme and some very patriotic details including 13 stars on the crown, 1776 branding on the front weight ports of each, a nod to the address of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, as well as a matching ProjectX Denali 1776 shaft and Golf Pride Patriot Z-Grip, the USA 250 Quantum driver lineup is sure to impress even the most patriotic of golfers.

Putters

Personally, this is the coolest part of the launch for me. They did an amazing job with the putters, and switching the name from Jailbird to Freebird for the collection is just such a perfect nod. Available in a very nice red, white and blue finish with plenty of patriotic accents is the Ai-DUAL USA 250 Freebird Mini DB, Ai-DUAL USA 250 #7 S, Ai-DUAL USA 250 Freebird Cruiser and the Square 2 Square Ai-DUAL USA 250 Freebird. Each putter comes with a matching 1776 “We the People” themed headcover. Freebird Mini and the #7 will retail for $379.99. The Cruiser and the Square 2 Square will retail for $429.99. I think my favorite accent on these is the Jailbird models utilizing the red and white stripes as a nod to the American Flag.

Wedges

Along with the Quantum drivers and Odyssey putters, Callaway is also bringing some custom Opus SP wedges to the USA 250 collection. Available in 50º to 60º increments, each section contains a slightly different laser engraving. The gap wedge lofts go for a “We the People” script, stars on the sand wedge lofts, and a nice waving flag on the lob wedges. Each wedge is also paint filled with red, white, and blue paint. Possibly the coolest detail here is the inclusion of a True Temper Dynamic Gold S200 with a USA 250 themed shaft label along with the same Golf Pride Patriot Z-Grip we saw on the driver lineup. Each USA 250 Opus SP wedge will retail for $219.99.
