With three wins under his belt over the last two years, Max Homa is proving himself to be one of the game’s rising stars, and his caddie, Joe Greiner, has been there every step of the way. The duo has been working together since 2013, and during that time, Greiner has gotten plenty of inside information by observing the world’s best players inside the ropes.
On this week’s episode of Subpar, Greiner joined hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz to discuss a slew of Tour topics, among them, which player-caddie duos would make the best team. Stoltz asked Greiner: If the Zurich Classic became a player-caddie tournament instead, who would win?
“Yeah, we would win,” Greiner said without hesitation. “I also think like one time, we should do like, a caddie tournament, where all the players have to caddie for their caddies. I think that would be incredible.
“There would be so many good teams, it would be so fun to watch everyone compete,” Greiner continued. “That’s not a bad idea.”
So where does Greiner’s game rank in talent versus the other caddies on Tour, Knost asked.
“In match play, I gotta be one of the best, just because my game kind of pisses off a lot of guys” Greiner said. “I played a lot of golf with [K.H. Lee’s caddie] Brett Waldman, who is without a doubt one of the most talented, best players. He played on Korn Ferry for a year back in the day. He swings it pretty, putts it pretty, but sometimes my 265 cut and my hybrid to 10 feet, make a putt, would piss him off.
“There’s so many good players,” Greiner said. “In the last five, 10 years it transitioned to a lot of guys that used to play and decided they weren’t gonna make it and could make a living caddying.”
