It’s Moving Day at the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, and unless you set your alarm for the wee hours, by the time you wake up, the leaders will be preparing to tee off and the early wave of competitors will already be sipping a post-round beverage.
But fear not! Below, you can catch up on the ascendant players whose play you missed in the early hours of Round 3.
Rickie Fowler
Fowler has been having a resurgent season, claiming his first victory in more than four years at the Rocket Mortgage Classic earlier this month after also contending at the U.S. Open.
But things weren’t looking great for Fowler through the first two rounds, as he made the cut on the number at three over par. But Saturday’s third round was a different story, as Fowler charged an incredible 51 spots up the leaderboard to T11 with a sizzling round of four-under 67.
Jon Rahm
The reigning Masters champ is off to a super-hot start, posting five birdies in his opening 11 holes in Round 3, including four in a row on Nos. 9-12.
That run brought him to five under on the day and three under overall into T4, seven shots behind Brian Harman’s lead, with six holes remaining.
Patrick Cantlay
Like Fowler, Cantlay made the cut on the number at three over after being derailed by a second-round 75.
But he battled back on Saturday with a bogey-free, four-birdie round to bring him to one under overall alongside Fowler in T11.
Xander Schauffele
A second-round 74 meant Xander Schauffele was somewhat of a non-factor in terms of tournament contenders, but with two holes remaining in his third round, he’s back in the conversation.
Schauffele made four birdies through his first 11 holes, then bogeyed the par-4 14th to drop to three under on the day and one under for the tournament. He’s currently T11.
Cameron Smith
The defending champ went to work on Saturday morning, posting four birdies and one bogey in his first 15 holes, bringing him to one under for the tournament and — you guessed it — T11.
