Severe storms swept through the Omaha, Neb. area early Saturday morning, and the intensity of the tempest caused major damage at Omaha Country Club. USGA officials delayed the start of the third round of this weekend’s U.S. Senior Open as a result.

“Due to inclement weather that caused damage to championship facilities, the start of play at the 41st #USSeniorOpen has been delayed,” the USGA tweeted just before 8 a.m.

Videos posted on social media showed the extent of the damage which included fallen trees as well as grandstands and TV towers that had been knocked over due to the high winds.

Tournament officials originally moved up Saturday’s tee times in hopes of dodging the inclement weather, but due to the damage, the start time was pushed back to 11:15 a.m. ET.

Jim Furyk currently leads the championship at four under through 36 holes after firing a tournament-best 64 during the second round. He is two strokes clear of Stephen Ames as he looks to win his first major on the senior circuit.
