The total purse and payout breakdown for the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot has been released, and the winner is going home with one giant paycheck.
As the 2020 U.S. Open champion, Bryson DeChambeau receives a whopping $2.25 million, the same total Gary Woodland earned for winning the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. The total purse of $12.5 million is the same as last year too.
As the second-place finisher at Winged Foot, Matthew Wolff also easily clears seven figures, taking home a check of $1.35 million. Third place receives $861,457, fourth gets $603,903, and fifth takes home $502,993.
Even the players who missed the cut (of which there were 81 — two players WD’d) receive a payout of $10,000 each. (Note: All players listed as (a) made $0 due to their amateur status.)
Money isn’t the only thing DeChambeau will get for conquering Winged Foot. He’ll also receive the U.S. Open trophy and the U.S. Open gold medal, a 10-year U.S. Open exemption and five-year exemptions into the Open, Masters and PGA Championship, as well as a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour and a seven-year exemption on the European Tour.
DeChambeau also receives an invite to the Tournament of Champions, a no-cut event that guarantees a nice payday, a whole boatload of World Ranking points (100 to be exact), and 600 FedEx Cup points.
The perks are certainly nice, but it’s hard to beat that $2.25 million first-place check. So how much did the rest of the field come away with this year? You can find a complete list of the U.S. Open payout for each player below.
