US Open 2016: Justin Thomas Makes Back-to-Back Chip-In Birdies

June 17, 2016

Birdies are hard to come by the at the 116th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, mostly due to the iconic course’s devilishly fast, canted greens. But what if you avoid putting altogether?

Justin Thomas seemed to have the right idea on Friday. Playing his second round of the day after severe weather on Thursday delayed the completion of the opening round, Thomas holed out for back-to-back birdies at Oakmont’s 7th and 8th holes, moving him to one over for the tournament.

Unfortunately for the young pro, he gave both shots back immediately with a double bogey on the 9th hole to make the turn at three over.

You can watch the second of Thomas’s unlikely chip-ins below.
