Good morning — actually, more like great morning, because we have PGA Tour playoff golf to enjoy over our coffee and hash browns. The main event: a Scottie Scheffler vs. Viktor Hovland sudden-death duel at 9 a.m. ET to decide the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
The golf spilled over from Sunday on account of inclement weather that caused a 83-minute delay in the fourth round. When Scheffler and Hovland, who were playing in the final pairing together, both made par on the 72nd hole, it left them in a deadlock at 21 under for the week, one better than Collin Morikawa. With dwindling light, the playoff was pushed to Monday morning. So, here we are . . . live updates of the action will be coming soon!

No one saw Hovland coming this week. He’d missed the cut in two of his last three Tour starts, including at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship, and has just two top-10 finishes this season. Scheffler, we always see coming, although he’s won just once this year, at the Amex back in January. A win this morning would go a long way toward validating what has been an excellent (eight top-4 finishes), if not exceptional (by his standards), season.

The Travelers just gets it right. Players love it, fans turn out and it always seems to deliver a memorable finish. Gold standard for a Signature event imo. Feels distinct.
Wild scenes on the 72nd hole yesterday with dozens of Norwegian fans clad in the colors of Norway packed in behind the green. As they urged on their man (that would be Hovland), the American/Scheffler fans fired back with chants of U-S-A! Shame the golf had to end. This morning will lack that same charge.
Scheffler has experience with Travelers playoffs. In 2024, he knocked off Tom Kim in extra holes in this event; Scheffler is 2-2 all time in PGA Tour playoffs. Hovland has played in just one Tour playoff, winning at the 2023 Memorial.
