The field for the FedEx Cup Playoffs opener is incredible, but many fans will have their eyes on one player, at least to start. Tiger Woods is making his first start since a disappointing missed cut at the Open Championship three weeks ago. Though it’s only his 11th start of the season, Woods sits in 28th place in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the Northern Trust.
The top-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings is no surprise: Brooks Koepka. Koepka, who is also No. 1 in the world, had a phenomenal season in the majors, winning the PGA at Bethpage Black and finishing in the Top 5 at the other three. He capped off the run-up to the Playoffs with a win two weeks ago at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
The FedEx Cup Playoffs field will shrink dramatically based on the results Sunday at Liberty National. The Top 70 in the FedEx standings after the Northern Trust move on to next week’s BMW Championship at Medinah. The rest of the field will be heading home with their seasons over.
