Masters Preview: How to Win at Augusta National

April 5, 2016

What makes a champion at Augusta National? Long tee shots and accurate approaches.

Sounds obvious, but the stats back it up, per golf stats guru Jake Nichols, who joined the GOLF.com podcast to break down how Augusta National, as a course, breeds a specific type of champion.

Nichols explains how Bubba Watson’s fate for a third green jacket hangs on the four par-5s. For Rory McIlroy, who has improved his par-5 performance through the years, it is very similar.

In the end, Nichols settles on Rickie Fowler as his predicted champion. To understand why Fowler’s success at northern courses helps Nichols reach that conclusion, listen to the podcast below.
