Tiger Woods Reveals Jack Nicklaus’ Most Impressive Statistic

December 15, 2015

Tiger Woods posted an article to his website, TigerWoods.com, on Tuesday congratulating Jack Nicklaus on winning Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award.

Nicklaus was announced as the winner on Nov. 10, but he’ll accept it Tuesday night at SI’s annual Sportsman of the Year event in New York City.

“I’d like to congratulate Jack on receiving (Sports Illustrated’s) Muhammad Ali Legacy Award,” Tiger wrote. “Every honor Jack receives is well-deserved, and this one, that recognizes the ideals of sportsmanship, leadership and philanthropy as tools for changing the world, is pretty special.”

Woods posted just four paragraphs to his website — you can read it here — but the second graph had one interesting nugget. Woods said that out of all of Nicklaus’ records — 18 major titles, 73 PGA Tour wins and 19 second-place finishes — that his 19 runners-up “may be his most incredible stat.”

Woods is still chasing one of those stats in Nicklaus’ 18 majors, but we’re uncertain when Woods will return to the course after his most recent surgery.
