Tiger Woods Reminisces About His Friendship with Arnold Palmer

September 27, 2016

In an interview on the Golf Channel Monday night, Tiger Woods spoke about his friendship with Arnold Palmer, which spanned a quarter-century. Their relationship was one of mentor and student, with Palmer offering Woods advice on golf and life.

Woods talked about meeting Palmer for the first time in 1991, when he won the U.S. Junior Amateur at Bay Hill.

“There’s a huge connection that I’ve always had with him,” Woods said, recalling drinks and dinners and rounds of golf over the years with the King. “He was one of those people I could always turn to.”

Woods is edging back into the spotlight after a long absence from competitive golf as he’ll serve as a vice captain for American Ryder Cup team in Chaska, Minnesota. The teams plan to pay some kind of tribute to Palmer, who passed away on Sunday, during the tournament.
