Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer and Tiger’s Hat Land in This Week’s Heroes & Zeros

August 25, 2015

Sports Illustrated’s Alan Shipnuck breaks down the good and bad—and sometimes even the ugly—of the weekend that was in professional golf. More often than not, someone blew a lead, another player stormed onto the scene and a few others provided us unforgettable moments, for whatever reason. Who is a hero and who is a zero? Find out below, but make sure to check back next week. You never know who will show up.

1. Davis Love. What a great victory lap for this classy champion – Kapalua, Augusta and even the FedEx Cup. Nice to have DL3 back, even if it’s just an extended cameo.

2. Nick Price. If you can get Tim Finchem to admit to flaws with his baby, the Prez Cup, and then get the Commish to actually tear up the format of the event, well, that’s some serious juice.

3. Lydia Ko. Ho hum, another win. That’s eight and counting for the, gulp, 18 year old.

4. Tiger. He’s clearly not ready to win again, but for three days he put a charge into the sports world. That was enough.

5. Paula Creamer. Apparently, you can’t have a Solheim without America’s sweetheart.

1. Brian Stuard. The journeyman missed the cut at the Wyndham and fell to 127th in the FedEx Cup standings and thus out of the “playoffs.” At least the poor bastard at 126th, Will Mackenzie, can say he was too hurt to tee it up in Carolina.

2. Martin Kaymer. He ended a winless year by failing to make the Barclays field and thus losing his PGA Tour card, which will impact his schedule in a big way in 2016, a Ryder Cup year. As they say in Germany, no bueno.

3. Jessica Korda. She’s the biggest name who got passed over for a Solheim pick. Considering Creamer has missed three straight cuts, and just shot an 81, that’s gotta hurt.

4. Tiger’s turquoise hat. #NeverAgain.

5. Paulina’s swimsuit. Have you seen her latest Insta, in that geometric one-piece? I’ve studied it extensively and I’m afraid the tan-lines are going to be awful.
