Where: Newport Coast, Calif.

What it costs: $1,200-$5,000 per night

What’s inside: Each of the 128 multi-bedroom villas feature expansive ocean-view terraces, gourmet kitchens, private two-car garages, limestone fireplaces and deep soaking tubs. The roomiest of these villas is the four-bedroom edition, measuring 3,581 square feet. Plush feather-top bedding, marble bathrooms, dining tables and chairs, large sectional sofas and a personal butler to help you pack and unpack are among the luxe offerings. Perhaps most impressive are the sliding glass walls that open to yield a seamless transition from indoors to your outdoor patio where chaise lounges and ocean panoramas await.

What else you get: Situated just south of Newport Beach, Pelican Hill delivers some of the most reliably superb weather in the U.S. Villa guests are afforded their own clubhouse, complete with a pool, fitness center, and restaurant. Two Tom Fazio designs are at the forefront of the golf offerings, and both sport Fazio’s artful bunkering and shaping, lush vegetation, coastal trees and staggering Pacific Ocean views. Also leave time for the golf academy, five-star spa and an astounding Roman coliseum-style pool complete with spacious cabanas. Come hungry, because the resort boasts three full-service restaurants, including fine Italian dining at Andrea and delectable dishes at the Pelican Grill, which also houses one of golf’s greatest 19th holes. Off-campus options include Crystal Cove Beach and shopping at nearby Fashion Island.
