Suite of the Week: Fairway Villa Suite at Quail Lodge & Golf Club

October 8, 2015

Where: Carmel, Calif.

What it costs: $1,100-$1,600 per night

What’s inside: These two recently renovated suites along the 14th fairway offer up to 1,400 square feet of living space, when you combine either a king guestroom or double queen guestroom with a 700 square-foot parlor that features sofas, dining table, living room and attached powder room. Each two-bedroom suite provides 2.5 bathrooms, three fireplaces and four patios. The handsome parlor fireplace is composed of stone creek stacked stone and its counterpart in the bedroom is sandstone. High vaulted beam ceilings add spaciousness and help flood the room with natural light. The traditional California Ranch décor includes native artwork and furnishings. His and hers sinks in each bathroom are set into granite countertops. For morning coffee or cocktail hour, French doors lead to spacious, secluded patios which offer chaise lounges, teak tables and Adirondack chairs.

What else you get: Among the attractions are a swimming pool, three tennis courts, three poolside fitness cabanas, a family-friendly nine-hole putting course, a sand bocce ball court and a Land Rover Driving School. The chief on-property amenity, however, is the bucolic 51-year-old golf course that was renovated in 2015 by Todd Eckenrode, with all-new bunkering and a deep grass swale that bisects several holes among the highlights. Nearby attractions include Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pebble Beach, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Laguna Seca Raceway.

For other budgets: Guest rooms start at $355 per night in summer’s high season. In shoulder season of November-December, rates begin at $185 per night.
