My my my! How the tables have turned.

After the Americans exploded out of the gates Friday in the opening foursomes session, winning all four matches, they’ve laid a comparative egg since then.

Team Europe has flipped the script at the 2023 Solheim Cup, winning the next three sessions 8-4, including 3-1 in Saturday afternoon’s four-ball session, tying the overall score at 8 a piece heading into Sunday’s 12 singles matches.

European captain Suzann Pettersen used a somewhat surprising strategy, using three players — Linn Grant, Leona Maguire and captain’s pick Emily Pedersen — to play all four matches through the first two days, meaning they will play the full five matches for the week.

Grant paired with Carlota Ciganda in Saturday’s anchor match in four-balls, to earn a thrilling 2 and 1 win over Lillia Vu and Danielle Kang to even the score heading into Sunday. Ciganda is 3-0-0 in playing in the first Solheim Cup held in her native Spain.

Despite driving the green and making eagle on the first hole of her Saturday afternoon match with Andrea Lee against Pedersen and Madelene Sagstrom, rising star Rose Zhang is still searching for her first Solheim Cup win. She is 0-1-1 after sitting both foursomes sessions.

The lone bright spot in Saturday’s afternoon session for the Americans came from Angel Yin and Cheyenne Knight. The Team USA pair got the only point of the session for the Red, White and Blue by defeating Ana Nordqvist and Caroline Hedwall 2 Up.

The last time the Solheim Cup was tied heading into singles, Team Europe pulled out a gutsy win in 2019, taking the final three matches, including Pettersen holing a nervy seven-footer on the 18th to win the clinching point, 1 Up.
