The Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony is the biggest Ryder Cup tradition before the event gets underway. Typically, it occurs on Thursday before the first day of matches. But now the 2025 Ryder Cup is breaking tradition due to bad weather.

Here’s what you need to know.

Ryder Cup weather forecast impacts Opening Ceremony

The massive stage for the 2025 Ryder Cup ceremony is located to the right of the 1st hole at Bethpage Black, just below the hill from the massive grandstands behind the 18th green and 1st tee.

While the stage at Bethpage Black appears ready to go, the weather is not cooperating.

The Opening Ceremony was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 25, from 4-7 p.m. ET. But on Tuesday, Ryder Cup organizers announced they would be moving the Opening Ceremony up one day to Wednesday.

The reason? Thunderstorms are expected to wallop Bethpage Black on Thursday, making the outdoor event unfeasible.

Traditionally, the captains announce the first session of matches at the Opening Ceremony. But because of the date change, Friday matchups will not be announced on stage.

Instead, the Friday pairings and matchups will be revealed on Thursday, separate from the Opening Ceremony.

How to watch Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony on Wednesday

The new date and time for the 2025 Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony is Wednesday, September 24, from 4-5 p.m. ET.

Golf Channel will carry the Opening Ceremony live on TV. But you can also watch the Opening Ceremony for free on RyderCup.com, the Ryder Cup YouTube page and the NBC Sports App.
