On the opening day of play at the 2025 Ryder Cup, Ryder Cup fans will be joined by President Donald Trump. But because of Trump’s visit, they’ll also face a series of additional security measures throughout the day.
From a long list of prohibited items, to extra TSA-style screening checkpoints, here’s what you need to know about enhanced Ryder Cup security measures on Friday.
Trump’s Friday visit brings enhanced Ryder Cup security measures
Security measures for U.S. presidents are no joke, no matter who occupies the office. But that’s especially true when a president has faced multiple assassination attempts, as is the case with President Trump.
In August, Trump announced he would attend Friday’s matches at the 2025 Ryder Cup, the opening day of play at Bethpage Black. There’s no doubt that since then U.S. Secret Service has been hard at work preparing security measures for his visit to the beloved state park on Long Island.
Wednesday morning, Ryder Cup officials detailed how those security measures would impact spectators attending the event on Friday.
Every day of the 2025 Ryder Cup, each fan must pass through TSA-style security screening at the entrance gates to the grounds. But on Friday, those security screenings will be extended beyond the entrance.
According to a press release, “spectators will be subjected to TSA-style screening points around the Clubhouse, adjacent grandstand and surrounding areas.”
Furthermore, if fans leave those areas and travel to other parts of the course, they will be screened again upon returning to those designated areas.
They also published a list of items that will be prohibited in the first tee grandstand or clubhouse areas, including large umbrellas, portable folding chairs and large vaping devices.

Portable folding chairs
Large vaping devices
Torch-style lighters
Metal/hard plastic insulated beverage containers
Large umbrellas (small retractable umbrellas are allowed).
Umbrella use may be restricted in certain areas of the course and main grandstand. Rain ponchos are strongly encouraged.
Range finders will NOT be permitted inside the golf course on Friday, September 26.
All bags, personal items and their contents may be subject to inspection.
Laptops and tablets will NOT be permitted in the Bethpage Black Golf Course
Ryder Cup organizers also encourage fans attending Friday’s matches to arrive as early as possible, expect delays and budget extra time accordingly.
Finally, fans can expect “temporary delays moving around publicly accessible areas inside and outside of the Bethpage Black Golf Course. These areas may briefly become restricted or frozen spaces before, during or after the event.”
