Of all the lucky patrons who have secured tickets to the Masters and Augusta National, almost all of them have left the grounds with bags (yes, plural) of purchased merchandise from the Golf Shop of the sport’s most famous tournament.
Count Rory McIlroy, the newest Masters champion, among them.
On Tuesday at the Tour Championship, McIlroy was asked how many Masters flags he’s signed since his victory.
“A lot,” he said, smiling.
That might be an understatement.
“I have no idea [how many I’ve signed]. It’s been a lot,” he continued. “But I do know that they had 1,100 extra, like 1,100 left in the merchandise facility at the end of the week, and we took all 1,100.”
One-thousand-one-hundred!
Although McIlroy later clarified he didn’t buy them to simply hang in his garage. He snagged them — all of which have McIlroy’s winning year, 2025, on them — to sign and eventually give away to fans and kids.
McIlroy, of course, also gets to sign these flags in the proper spot. Augusta National is not short on rules, and one of those protocols involves where players sign Masters flags. Only the champion can sign inside the outline of the U.S on the Masters logo.
“It’s been a lot, but I’ll never get sick of signing them,” McIlroy said. “I’ve waited 17 years to sign that flag in the middle, and I will never complain about doing it.”
And since you were wondering, in 2025, the Masters flags cost $30 each. If McIlroy bought 1,100 of them, that’s a grand total of $33,000. Although he’s earned more than $100 million on the PGA Tour alone in his career, so luckily he could flip the bill.
