It didn’t take long for Rory McIlroy to make his imprint on the 2025 PGA Tour season. The World No. 3 made a hole-in-one on just his sixth hole in the opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

McIlroy started the first round on the back nine at Spyglass Hill and made an early birdie on the first par-3 he played, Spyglass Hill’s 12th hole. But he’d do one better on the next par-3.

His sixth hole of the day was Spyglass’ 15th hole, which was playing a minuscule 119 yards on Thursday. With a wedge in his hand, McIlroy knocked his tee shot toward the green, and it’s fair to say he got the line and distance right. McIlroy’s ball clanged into the bottom of the flagstick and dropped into the cup for a hole-in-one.

The shot was McIlroy’s second-career hole-in-one on the PGA Tour. He celebrated with a high-five to his playing partner Ludvig Aberg and a big hug with Aberg’s amateur partner Jimmy Dunne. Dunne was previously intimately involved with the Framework Agreement between the PGA Tour and the PIF.

The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is Rory’s first PGA Tour start of the season after beginning the year playing the DP World Tour. As a Signature Event, the tournament features a $20 million total purse with $3.6 million going to the winner.

The ace put McIlroy near the top of the very early leaderboard.
