Rickie Fowler’s Mom, Sister Miss Flight to Watch Historic Finish

May 11, 2015

Rickie Fowler’s mom and sister missed their Sunday night flight—but they didn’t miss history.

With Fowler not making much of a charge early in his final round, his mother, Lynn, and sister, Taylor, left the course and checked in to board their flight at the Jacksonville International Airport, but they decided to rush back to TPC Sawgrass when Fowler birdied the 17th hole of regulation.

Fowler was even on the front nine and 1-over on the day after 10, but he played the last six holes of regulation 6-under to shoot a 67. He played Nos. 15-18 of regulation 5-under to set a tournament-record total on the final four holes.

“I knew they were planning to leave at four or so, so I assumed with my less-than-stellar play the first 12 holes that they were well on their way, because I was out of contention,” Fowler said, “and then I had found out because I think my caddie was checking in to see if they were out or back, and found out they were on their way back, and they made it back in time.”

Taylor drove from the airport.

“She can handle herself behind the wheel,” Fowler said. “We grew up riding and racing dirt bikes. She can manage.”

They returned to the Stadium Course in time to see Fowler beat Kevin Kisner with a birdie on the 17th hole, the first of a sudden-death playoff, for his second Tour win. That came after Fowler and Kisner were locked at 1-under after a three-hole aggregate playoff. Sergio Garcia didn’t advance to the sudden-death playoff.

Fowler’s girlfriend, model Alexis Randock, was also there to watch.

“Very special to have all of them here, and especially my mom for Mother’s Day,” Fowler said. “I know she’s pretty happy.”
