There are few places more exciting to card a hole-in-one than the WM Phoenix Open, and few better days to do it than on the weekend.

Rickie Fowler ticked both of those boxes on Sunday with an ace at the par-3 7th hole at TPC Scottsdale.

Fowler started the day at nine under par, four shots behind leader Scottie Scheffler.

Fowler’s chase didn’t begin as well as he would have hoped on Sunday, as he carded a bogey on the par-4 2nd, though he bounced back with a quick birdie on the par-5 3rd. But Scheffler birdied two of his first three holes, bringing him to 15 under par — six shots ahead of Fowler.

But then, Fowler stepped on the 7th tee and hit a shot that may well be the spark his final-round charge needs.

The 7th is playing 216 yards on Sunday, and Fowler hit a smooth 6-iron with a high baby draw. The ball bounced twice on the green before rolling directly into the cup.

The crowd around the tee went nuts as Fowler smiled and high-fived his caddie, and received congratulations from playing partner Jason Day.

The ace was the third of Fowler’s Tour career, and brought him to 11 under par — just four shots behind Scheffler’s lead.

Still the come: the famous 16th, and the back-nine stretch at TPC Scottsdale.

An epic day is officially underway.
