Pro hits shot from water (!), hits shoe in (!) — and he swims out to get shoe (!!!)

Josh Teater

Josh Teater on Thursday in the water at Thornblade Club in South Carolina.

That headline above is doing some work, isn’t it?

Pro hits shot from water (!)

And that Josh Teater did during Thursday’s first round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am. At this moment, the details are hazy, but the watery sequence in question appears to have come during Teater’s third shot on the 410-yard, par-4 7th at Thornblade Club in South Carolina, and Teater had taken off a shoe to hit.

Hits shoe in (!)

And that Teater did, too, according to a tweet he wrote early the next day that detailed the scene. The 43-year-old pro said he “flew green into water.” Then “hit shoe into water.” Then “had to get it.”

And he swims out to get shoe (!!!)

And that Teater did, too. How do we know? Former pro Kyle Thompson filmed 17 seconds of it, then shared it with the world over Twitter. The video begins with Teater submerged up to his head about 10 yards right of the green. A man says, “Could you keep it down back there, we’re trying to play.”

Teater eventually comes ashore. A playing partner reaches out to help. A caddie offers a towel. “This is the greatest BMW tournament ever,” a man says. On Twitter, Thompson wrote, “Leaked video: This may or may not be ⁦@jteater12⁩ today during the ⁦@BMWCharityProAm⁩. Sources are trying to confirm” — and Teater replied with some of the details.

After all that, Teater finished with a double-bogey six. And his shoe — we think.

And one hell of a headline.
