Joel Dahmen wore a black pullover, black pants and a white bucket hat during Thursday’s first round of the U.S. Open. Dahmen was in accordance with the Winged Foot Golf Club dress policy. “Proper dress while using Club facilities is traditional and conservative,” its website says.
His lime green “mankini” is neither.
Dahmen shopped like a pro for the tournament. He Photoshopped like a pro the day before the tournament. He let everyone look at an alternative look in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“Most of my peers have posted their scripted outfits for the week, my team and I have taken a bit longer to make sure they are perfect. #usopen @genobonnalie,” Dahmen wrote under “Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday” pictures.
The mankini was Thursday.
Dahmen Photoshopped his head onto the Sacha Baron Cohen character, Borat Sagdiyev, from the 2006 movie “Borat.” He added a pair of black and white golf shoes in his right hand. On the left side of the picture, Dahmen wrote, in a nod to Borat, “I do golf. Make par, alright?”
A cut-off white shirt, with USA written across it, was Friday.
Dahmen photoshopped his head, which was wearing sunglasses and a bucket hat, onto a Will Farrell character during a 2001 “Saturday Night Live” skit. He’s holding an orange coffee cup. Not shown is the bottom half of the original photo — a red, white and blue thong.
A plaid sport coat was Saturday.

A light brown shirt and white pants was Sunday. And a red shirt and blue jeans for his caddie, Geno Bonnalie.
Dahmen photoshopped his head, along with a white hat, onto the Chevy Chase character, Ty Webb, from the 1980 movie “Caddyshack.” He photoshopped Bonnalie’s head, along with a red Valspar hat, onto the Michael O’Keefe character, Danny Noonan. (O’Keefe also caddied for one of the players at the Open, Danny Balin, during the Monday and Tuesday practice rounds.)
For what it’s worth, Dahmen’s “traditional and conservative” look led to a 3-over 73 on Thursday.
