Europe defended its Solheim Cup title and did so on American soil, beating the U.S. 15-13 on Monday at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The Americans hold the all-time Solheim Cup edge 10-7, but Europe has now won four of the last six.
Matilda Castren drained the Cup-retaining putt for Europe when she got up and down for par on the 18th to beat Lizette Salas 1 up and give Europe 14 points. That kicked off a mini-party for the European side, but the full-blown celebration had to wait until Emily Pedersen birdied the last to beat Danielle Kang 1 up in the final match of the day.
Check out photos of the European team’s victorious celebration below. As for the Americans, they need to wait two more years for their next chance at a win. The next Solheim Cup is 2023 in Spain.
