A new PGA Tour event is heading somewhere avid golfers know well: Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Tour announced on Wednesday that the Myrtle Beach Classic, sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach, will debut in 2024 at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

The tournament, which is under a four-year agreement, will be an opposite-field event played during the same week as one of the Tour’s designated events. Dates for 2024 have yet to be released, but the purse will be $3.9 million.

“We are thrilled to announce the debut of the Myrtle Beach Classic, an exciting new playing opportunity for our members in one of our country’s most recognized and visited destinations,” said Tyler Dennis, president at the PGA Tour. “With its incredible passion for golf, the Myrtle Beach community is a natural fit to bring this tournament to life. We look forward to partnering with Visit Myrtle Beach for a first-class tournament at a championship venue in Dunes Golf and Beach Club.”

The Dunes Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones and was the host of the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on the PGA Tour Champions from 1994 to 1999. GOLF’s best-in-state course rankings place it as the 12th-best course in South Carolina, but the third-best public option.

The Myrtle Beach Classic will be one of the Tour’s two stops in South Carolina in 2024, joining the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island, which has long been played the week after the Masters in April.
