The 2023 PGA Championship is officially at the halfway point, with any player who shot six over par or more over 36 holes making an early exit from Pittsford.

Seventy-six players remain in the quest for the Wanamaker trophy, and the leaderboard is tightly packed at the top.

What can we look forward to on Saturday?

Here are 5 things to know for the third round at Oak Hill.

The leaders

It’s a three-way tie at the top with 36 holes left to play, as Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland and Corey Connors are at five under par.

Scheffler has the most prestigious pedigree of that group, with both a Masters win and a Players Championship on his resume. A win this week would give him the second leg of the career grand slam. Connors and Hovland have two and three PGA Tour victories, respectively.

The contenders

Just behind the trio of leaders are six more players within four shots of their lead, including Bryson DeChambeau (-3), Brooks Koepka (-2) and Justin Rose (-1). Moving Day drama awaits!

What happened to Jon Rahm?

The potentially frightening rules scenario that could be developing at the PGA
By: Nick Piastowski

After a surprising opening round of six-over 76, World No. 1 Jon Rahm bounced back on Friday with a two-under 68, which was enough to put him on the right side of the cut line so he can stay around for the weekend.

He’s currently at four over — seemingly not much of a threat to the leaders, but one sizzling round on Saturday could change everything.

What about Rory?

It’s been nearly a decade since Rory McIlroy won his last major championship, which just so happened to be the 2014 PGA at Valhalla, which also just so happens to be next year’s venue. But we digress!

McIlroy found a bit of a spark toward the end of his second round, posting three birdies on his final 10 holes to get back to even par for the tournament — and within a seemingly surmountable five shots from the lead.

The forecast

After Thursday’s chilly morning temperatures, players will probably be happy to see the low temperature rise into the 60s on Saturday. Unfortunately, the balminess is coming with expected rain. According to Weather.com, it will almost certainly be raining steadily by lunchtime on Saturday. The good news? Sunday looks glorious, with sunshine and temps reaching the 70s.

Hey, it wouldn’t be a major without a little adversity, right?
