Olympics Golf: Rickie Fowler Shoots 29 Early Saturday Morning

August 13, 2016

Players have been treated to prime scoring conditions at the Olympic Golf Course Saturday morning, and Rickie Fowler has not been shy about taking advantage.

Playing in one of the first groups, Fowler began the day with a birdie on the first hole and two more on the next four holes. Another birdie on the par-3 8th moved him back to even par for the event but the real fireworks came at the 9th.

Fowler found the fairway with a 296-yard drive, and then sent a low, bouncing chip to the hole. From just 73 yards away, it hopped, skipped and found the bottom of the cup for an eagle.

At that point Fowler moved to six under for the day, turning in 29. He then added another birdie at the par-5 10th, moving him to seven under for the day.

Leader Marcus Fraser holds the course record, an eight-under 63 that he carded in the opening round.
